Ooh La La Oscar De La Renta!

Before I share this wedding I want to let out a little ‘squeeeeal’of excitement over bride Sian’s Oscar De La Renta number. I actually remember coming across this dress last year sometime on a blog somewhere and being pretty much floored by it’s beauty. So when photographer David shared his images from Sian & Dave’s London Zoo wedding from Saturday I knew I knew that dress…and I fell in love all over again. Not only that but teamed with the Vivienne Westwood shoes (which I love and have a pair of myself) and it’s a match made in Rock n Roll heaven!

David and I share a mutual love of these shoes, as he explained, “Sian already knew her shoes months before the wedding and they were my favourite wedding shoes – the Vivienne Westwood shoes that smell lovely and have big red hearts on them.  I never thought I’d comment on the smell of shoes – see what being a wedding photographer has done to me!  Last year a bride of mine, Caroline had those shoes as well and it was great seeing them again.  I feel like old chums with them now.”

I don’t think I have ever seen such an ecstatic bride. You won’t help but grin from ear to ear when you get your peepers around this lot…

Luella’s Boudoir Recap – Vintage Wedding Event

Last night I was invited to attend the Luella’s Boudoir event at the ridiculously gorgeous venue ofOne Marylebone in London which I’d been looking forward to for weeks. It was such a fabulous event with some of the best vintage-inspired photographers and wedding vendors on show for all those lucky brides-to-be. I had some serious dress/shoe/jewellery envy for everyone who was actually allowed to buy the stuff on offer. Can I be a bride again? Pweeease!

Magpie Vintage and their gorgeous stand

I’d just like to say a huge thank you to Rachel Attwell who organised such a classy, elegant and kick ass  event and to Cosmopolitan Bride and You & Your Wedding Magazine for sponsoring the show. Some of my favourite vendors who you simply must check out were there. I have never met a nicer group of people! Magpie Vintage had one of the busiest and sparkiest stands there and Emmy Shoes were always rammed with brides checking out their gorgeous heels. Luella’s Boudoir (their shop is in Wimbledon) were of course there to showcase some of their new and gorgeous dress and accessory designs, and the fashion show was certainly a hit with all the brides-to-be. I kept glancing at all the excitable girls around me as the models sauntered down the catwalk, whispering to their friends “ooh I want that one!” All the dresses, bridesmaids dresses and accessories at the show were all designed as exclusive collections for Luella’s Boudoir and are  available for purchase directly from Luella’s Boudoir.

A Little Bit of Rock n Roll Magic

I’ve got another Luella’s Boudoir-related post for you now (can to tell I’m excited about tonight?!) Becci & Mark’s wedding is a pretty special one, for more reason than one. Not only did the pair find their photographer David McNeil through Rock n Roll Bride, but Becci also found and discovered the amazing vintage jewellery experts, Magpie Vintage. Who wouldn’t fall in love with their amazing designs after all!? As a DIY bride (Becci’s made her own dress from an original 1930’s pattern as well as her flowers and all the decor and details for their wedding) unfortunately the jewellery pieces she fell in love with were slightly out of her price range. However with a little bit of Rock n Roll Bride magic I was able to pull a few strings for her and the lovely ladies at Magpie Vintage were kind enough to lend her the gorgeous headband and necklace you see her wearing! How amazing is that?!

Best Of Blogs – Issue 7 ~ David McNeil

I joked about this on Twitter and Facebook yesterday, but it may actually be true you know – they might as well have called this month’s Photo Pro Magazine, Rock n Roll Bride Magazine because the awesome guys over there not only ran my regular ‘Best of Blogs’ article, but my friend and photographer, the way-too-fabulous Julia Boggio, wrote a piece about ‘the art of posing’…and guess who’s Vintage Boudoir session is adoring FOUR whole pages?! That’s right people…it’s meee! I can’t wait to share those with you (next week) but for now let’s get right into learning all about another one of my favourite UK photographers (and just so happens, best friends) David McNeil!

When Gareth and I married 2 years ago, reportage photography was all the rage – naturalistic, unobtrusive and apparently perfect for ‘capturing you at your most beautiful’. However in recent years there has been a wave of new photographers with fashion or portraiture backgrounds moving into the industry causing a shift in perspective as what the most flattering style of photography might be. After all, for most couples, their wedding day is the only day they’ll ever have professional shots taken so why not make the most of it?

Urban, Girtty, Hearts & Love

Emma & Mattias’ urban & gritty engagement session in Hackney Wick (the East End of London) have inspired me no end. I not only love the rough ‘n ready, graffiti style shots (which are fast becoming a bit of a McNeil signature) but the wonderful heart shots send my heart a-flutter. I asked David how this images came about and he told me that as they were wondering down the street, looking for locations, they came across a warehouse where a Valentines night was being set up. They asked nicely if they would use their heart covered wall as a backdrop and the lovely people said yes. Aren’t the results fabulous?
