Secret Christmas Eve Wedding on their Grandparents’ Anniversary

Both their grandparents were married on Christmas Eve (what are the chances!?) so when they pushed their big wedding back to later this summer, Millie and Ian decided to carry on the family tradition and have a secret festive elopement. It was also the two year anniversary of their engagement so really, the date felt pretty perfect.

The bride wore an ASOS dress which she’d originally bought for her (also postponed) hen do and made her bouquet from faux flowers herself. “We had spent 18 months planning a large forest wedding that was postponed until next July”, Millie told us. “With how the world was looking we one night had a chat and decided that actually we just wanted to be married and could have the big party when everything was safe again. We quickly called my auntie, who is a registrar, who had us booked in and sorted straight away.”

A COVID Christmas Wedding with Sequins & Starbucks

If the pandemic has taught us anything it’s that low key can still be really lovely! For Sabrina and Chris, who got married a few weeks before Christmas, this was absolutely the case. They had a Registrar’s Office ceremony, followed by a quick pitstop in Starbucks to call some loved ones who couldn’t be there, rounding the evening off with a meal with their two witnesses at the bride’s sister’s house.

“Our wedding was a last minute cosy Christmas wedding”, the bride said. “With everything that 2020 and COVID has thrown at us and the loss we’ve experienced all over the world, we really just wanted our day to just be about love and our life together. We planned the day in just over a month with next to no budget. Our budget was £900 and we spent £898.99! We chose our ceremony room and had to change our photographer (because our original one came into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID so she couldn’t make it) two days before!”

Elegant & Romantic Outdoor COVID Wedding with a Feathered Veil

Margo and Deven had to change their plans for their September 2020 wedding so many times that they threw themes out the window. Instead of focusing on flowers or décor, they were inspired by the nature they got married in.

Married in the backyard of Deven’s family home, the whole wedding ended up being DIY and the couple spent $15,000. Margo got to flex her design skills on lettering and graphic design for their place cards and other stationery, and the pair worked together on choosing things like music. A particularly fun project was making the best of the situation and personalising hand sanitiser bottles for their guests.

An Accidentally Autumnal Woodland Ceremony Arranged in 24 Hours!

Dan and Cara’s woodland wedding ceremony was pulled together in just 24 hours! Having their big summer wedding postponed for obvious reasons, they changed their plans to have a smaller wedding in November. However, then a second lockdown was announced just two days before they were due to get married, it meant their previously COVID-secure wedding was now a no-go too! With the help of the wedding planner at Cheshire Woodland Weddings, the registrars and their families, they re-arranged everything in just one day and were able to have their 13-guest ceremony on November 7th.

“Our wedding theme was ‘accidentally autumnal’,” the bride told us. “Our original wedding was due to be in May, so it would have been spring/summer vibes, however the way it all turned out was absolutely perfect to reflect us. We had originally booked a different venue, however when COVID hit and we had to postpone, it was fate that we looked at alternative options and found the woods! Both of us love nature and adventures so Cheshire Woodland Weddings was the most perfect place for us to get married.”

Tattoo Artists’ Causeway Coast Elopement

Tattoo artists Dom and Char flew to Ireland to have their September elopement it Cushendun Cave in Northern Ireland. They didn’t have a theme or anything in terms of props or styling other than their outfits and the bride’s bouquet.

The ceremony was just the two of them, their photographer, videographer and celebrant. “It was amazing, Char said, “the waves were crashing against the rocks whilst we said our vows and we could smell the sea. The whole day was so perfect from beginning to end.”

Party Like it’s a Pandemic: A Low-Key London Wedding

Unintentionally, Vicky and Jake’s September became vintage London themed because they wanted to show off the city that they love. They chose Chelsea Old Town Hall as both their ceremony and reception venue, booked a vintage double decker red bus and planned their photos around some of the most iconic tourist attractions. Décor and theme wise they did keep things pretty simple, choosing simple DIY floral arrangements that let the venue be the star of the show.

Vicky wore a Needle and Thread dress, a jacket from Nasty Gal, and Public Desire boots. Her veil was vintage, and her mum’s, and her epic floral mask was homemade, inspired by this shoot which we published over the summer!

“I think the most unique thing about our wedding is that we had it during a pandemic”, Vicky told us. “We really tried to embrace the government restrictions into our wedding with matching masks and pandemic swag bags. We also dragged our guests around London to eat doughnuts and get photos at fun tourist location… Not many couples can say they had formal wedding photos outside Buckingham Palace!”
