Kitsch, Colourful & Homespun Mardi Gras Wedding

Colourful, fun and unique, Carrie Ann and Alex’s wedding was one big celebration in the middle of Mardi Gras. They said their vows in a ceremony in the centre of North Rampart Street in New Orleans, followed by a block party, setting up tables and chairs along the pavement for all their guests. Carrie Ann summed it up, “Our wedding was a homespun, insane Mardi Gras miracle!”

With a budget of $3000, there was plenty of opportunity for unique DIY to fit their theme, as Carrie Ann told us, “I made custom magnets and custom condoms as wedding favours. I made the wedding cake, charcuterie and salads and my wedding party helped make the decorations and bouquets. This wedding was a well-budgeted group effort to say the least! I’m a former cook, so cooking half of the wedding menu and baking the wedding cake myself saved so much money.”

Halloween Wedding with Classic Horror Movie Fancy Dress

We feature a lot of Friday the 13th and Halloween weddings on Rock n Roll Bride (and we love them!) but Alexis and Jeff took it to the NEXT LEVEL with their DIY Halloween themed wedding, where they were made up as Frankenstein’s monster and his bride. Yep, you read that right.

“We both love Halloween, and so when we saw there was a Friday 13th in October last year, we knew it was right!” Alexis explains. “Our theme was a Classic Horror Movie Monsters Halloween Party.”

Alexis and Jeff hired a professional make-up artist to make the wedding party look like the classic horror movie monsters: the bride and groom were Frankenstein’s monster and his bride; her bridesmaids were The Creature From The Black Lagoon and The Mummy, and the groomsmen were Dracula and Wolfman. Alexis’ dad walked her down the aisle as the Phantom of the Opera, and they were married by Dr Frankenstein. This was their biggest expense of the whole day!

Skulls, Creepy Dolls & A Kick-Ass Halloween Wedding Party!

Leslie and Drew were married on 31st October 2016 as so, naturally, they wanted their wedding theme to be Halloween. The day was complete with skulls, creepy dolls and all the guests dressed in costumes!

“We’d been together for nine years and wanted to celebrate that,” began Leslie, “anything that wasn’t fun, we didn’t want. We ended up not having bridesmaids or groomsmen because we wanted everyone to feel included. Our invitations said ‘costumes mandatory’ on them. It made the atmosphere, some people were scary, some were pretty, but no one was wearing something they didn’t want to be in and everyone had fun with it. And because costumes were mandatory everyone assumed we’d be dressed as Beetlejuice or something, so when we showed up in a white dress and suit it was a surprise!”

Their ceremony was conducted by a family member, and was suitably ‘weird’! “I walked down the aisle to the Indiana Jones theme, I made it about half way before cracking up. My brother-in-law, Stuart, was ordained online and preformed the ceremony in his Jedi robes! He also wrote the ceremony. We told him to keep it weird and he obliged, opening with a brief history of homo-sapiens and their rise to power through unity and ending with the mathematically increasing odds that we will be swallowed up by a sinkhole.”
