Christine & Simon are getting married on 12th May 2012 in Oakham, Rutland, UK

Simon and I still have a way to go with planning but we do have lots of brilliant ideas that will be quite unique to us!

The actual wedding ceremony will take place at our town’s church, mainly this is convenient but more importantly Simon’s parents and his grandparents were Wed there!  Our general theme for our wedding is an English Country Wedding with a shimmer of elegance (nothing too shabby chic).  Our evening reception will take place in a Marquee on the grounds of a beautiful country house, very private and exclusive.

After the wedding breakfast at around 9pm we will have an ice cream and cookies bar served with every sauce and topping under the sun!  It will be a lovely evening twist to get rid of the dreary finger buffet!  We will also have milk and hot chocolate to wash it all down with.

My dad’s brother is kind enough to be walking me down the aisle on my big day, unfortunately my dad was murdered back in August 2010.  He was a big lover of life and wanted to live life to full, so having an amazing photographer capturing my day would be magical.  I want the vibrancy of the day and the close family ties to show through my pictures.

Secondly, I just wanted to let you all know that I’ve been invited to take part in Photo Night Live – an online, hour long show all about photography. The show is titled “Blogging 101 Showcasing Your Life Online” and we’ll be filming on Wednesday via Skype (which I’ve never actually used…should be interesting!) I’m being interviewed alongside a new photographer, Ali Lovegrove, who wants to get better at blogging. I hope to be able to talk her (and you!) through some of my blogging tips and tricks.

If you’ve got any questions about blogging or social media stuff that you’d like me to try and answer, tweet them to @photonightlive by 5pm (GMT) on Wednesday 23rd March 2011.

You can find out more info on the show here.

WIN Free Wedding Photography from Xanthe Roxburgh

Everyone deserves to have fabulous wedding photography. Fact. After the wedding day is done, it’s the one thing that’s there for the rest of your lives, to remind you of your special day. However not everyone can afford a professional which is why I am seriously excited that Australian photographer Xanthe Roxburgh would like to offer one lucky Rock n Roll Bride reader Free Wedding Photography and a free engagement or day after shoot!

And the best bit? Even though Xanthe is based Down Under, she is willing to travel world wide to shoot the winning wedding! All we just ask is that transportation and lodging costs are covered if it’s more than 100km outside of Newcastle, Australia.

“I’m a lover of life, taker of photographs, chronicler of the world,” Xanthe says. “An inveterate people-watcher, I love catching the emotions and expressions of my subjects; everyone has a story to tell, and it’s often written on their face.  My style is quirky and funky with a liberal dash of romance thrown in.”

“I am inspired daily by the beauty of the world and the people around me, and I am always honoured by the trust people show in me by inviting me into their lives to document their weddings and families.”

To enter, simply email me on kat@rocknrollbride.com, with the subject header “free wedding photography? yes please!” and, in no more than 500 words, tell us about your plans for your Rock n Roll wedding. Are you having an unusual theme? Are you on a teeny tiny budget so are DIYing the lot? Do you have some unusual plans for your ceremony? Or are you jumping ship and having an elopement, just the two of you? We’re not just after the wackiest theme or most crazy ideas, all we ask is that your wedding reflects you and your partner and that it ROCKS!

Please also include an inspiration board to share your ideas and wedding theme. For ideas on how to do this, check out the finalists of a similar contest I ran last year.

Please also include your names, wedding date (wedding must be taking place between July 2011 and July 2012) and location (venue if you have it, if not then where you are in the world) plus a recent photograph of you and your beau – all of which will be published on the blog if you are a finalist.

You have two weeks –  until Sunday 20th March 2011 – to get those entries in. Then, myself and Xanthe will then pick out top 3 finalists who will all be put on the blog to face the public vote for one week. Then, whoever gets the most votes wins this amazing prize!

Thursday Treats – 3rd March 2011 + Winner of the ‘Rock n Roll’ Ring Announced!

Credit: stOOpidgErL via f-yeah cute food. There’s no other reason for this photos than it makes me happieeeee! In fact it reminds me of the food in the food fight in Hook! YUM.

So it turns out that a Rock n Roll ring was just what you Rock n Roll Brides were in need of! With over 120 entries a random selection was really the only way to pick the winner and keep it fair. I’m delighted to announce that the winner is…

Congratulations Lou Liddy! I’ll be emailing you soon as to get your shipping info! If you weren’t lucky enough to win this fab ring but you’d still like to purchase some Memento Mori Jewellery, drop Simon an email to mementomori_jewellery@hotmail.com for a catalogue or call him on 07834 155289.

So…In need of more treats?

A Sunday Kind of Love – WIN a ‘Rock n Roll’ Ring from Memento Mori Jewellery

This contest is now closed

I’ve got an extra special Sunday Kind of Love post for you today and a BONUS giveaway for one lucky reader. I was contacted by Simon of Memento Mori Jewellery (and yes I have informed him that he must get himself a proper website!) last week to show me some of his latest collection of sterling silver jewellery. As soon as I laid eyes on the collection, my eyes were immediate drawn to one ring in particular…can you see why?!

Well the lovely Simon offered to send me one as a very generous gift, unfortunately the first one I received was too small (darn those online ring size charts!) but instead of sending it back Simon has allowed me to keep it to give away to one lucky reader.

The ring is approximately a UK ring size “I” but could be worn on a chain if it was too small. It is cast out of sterling silver and is worth £95!

To enter simply comment below by Wednesday 2nd March 2011. The winner will be announced in next week’s Thursday Treats.

Thursday Treats – 24th February 2011 + Winner of The Knot Couture Dress Announced!

Photography Credit: Birke Photography via Wedding Chicks

I wanted to start this edition off by announced the winner of the stupendously popular competition to win a custom wedding dress from Knot Couture. Big love to everyone who entered – we had 79 comments which really did make it hard to decide who would win the dress. However after much deliberation both myself and the Knot Couture girls would like to award the grand prize to…

Natasha Tenney who said:

“Wow. You already have some great entries to win one of these gorgeous dresses. So why do I deserve to win? I live in a small southern town and so far, I’ve not been treated exactly welcome by any of the bridal shops here because like many of the women who adore Rock n’ Roll Bride, I am covered in tattoos. Even though tattoos seem to become more socially accepted all the time, it’s almost as if these snooty girls think that because I have art all over my body I don’t deserve an absolutely gorgeous and girly wedding dress. It’s very disheartening because even though on most days you will find me in t-shirts, jeans, and boots, I want my fella’s jaw to drop on that special day. He’s a wonderful man who’s raising my three little ones as his own, and he sees me everyday without the make-up and frills. I want our wedding (which is October 15 of this year) to be the one of those times when he sees me and has his breath just taken away. One of these eight gorgeous creations would definitely help do the trick! Then, I want to send a picture to each and every one of these bridal shops who treated me like I didn’t deserve a pretty dress, and let them know that their magazine dresses weren’t good enough for ME! Got my fingers crossed!!!”

It was the Pretty Woman-esque story that did it for me. I know the feeling Natasha and I really do hope you send them some photos aftewards…maybe giving them the finger?! Natasha, the Knot Couture girls will be in touch asap to get the ball moving on creating your beautiful dress!

Huge thanks to everyone that entered, and if you weren’t lucky enough to win, fret not because Knot Couture would like to offer 10% off the purchase of any of their dresses from their etsy store when you quote ROCKNROLLBRIDE10 at the checkout. Orders must be placed by March 9th 2011 to qualify.

Oooh what a lot of excitement! Let’s continue on with that and this week’s Thursday Treats shall we?
