Jess & Rob’s Hip-Nouveau-Country-Handle-Bar-Moustache-Rayban-Sunglasses-with-a-Dash-of-Vintage-Perfection Wedding!

Jess & Rob got married “under a lone tree in a field” in a cermony that was perfectly related to the things that they adore. “They really do live a dreamy life,” their photographer’s Emmy & Aaron told me. “Jess is a lover of horses and what better life than to run Foxstone Stables at Glenora Farm and also to live right above the stable with 300 acres of Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley paradise. They even have their own natural spring swimming pond, meadows with lone trees, and gorgeousness everywhere you look!” Needless to say, their home provided the perfect location for the wedding.

Emmy continued, “The whole day we felt like kids in a candy store with not quite enough time to fill our pockets. This dreamy day was a hip-nouveau-country-handle-bar-moustache-rayban-sunglasses-with-a-dash-of-vintage perfection! There were so many personal touches and such wonderful details that the result is that I have a lot of images to share!”

Jess wore a stunning Priscilla of Boston dress which was perfect for their vintage country style wedding.  Her rings, carried in little leather pouches, were originally Rob’s Grandmother’s and her vintage bracelet had previously been worn by the other women in Rob’s family on their wedding day, so it held a lot of sentimental significance.  Throughout their home were old family photos and antique treasures that really set the scene for the wedding day.

The ceremony seats were bales of hay with Jess’ baby quilts made by her Mother laid over them. The bridal party entered through the field with Jess’ old pup Jackson, looking so so proud in his bow-tie. The flowers were daisies and sunflowers and were set alonside gorgeous red gingham table clothes – perfect for the hot and sunny weather.  Many of the guests set up camp in a nearby field with vans and tents to make a weekend of the event.

In honour of Rob’s moustache many of his friends grew their own and the groomsmen bought stick ons that you could shape in different styles. Instead of a wedding cake these two ordered a table full of pies, which went down very well with the guests, “It was really hard to photograph them and not sneak a taste,” laughed the photographers. After the ceremony the party headed up the hill to the old red barn for some shelter from the heat and to take some portraits. “You have heard the famous saying don’t work with kids or animals – well we usually love working with both and the kids were fantastic it was the darn goats that couldn’t take the hint that it wasn’t their day!” continued Emmy & Aaron. “One really wanted his picture taken, after he tasted a bridesmaid’s bouquet of course.  At first it was funny until I had to push him out of the way by his bottom, goats are stubborn.”

“We left the barn via tractor and at dusk the music started, the lanterns came on and man could these folks dance! I have never seen grannies with such moves, so so much fun.  Jess and Rob are so in love and their wedding day was perfect from beginning to end.  We know we will see them and Jackson, and probably the goat many more times in the future. At the end of the day we were still hot, a little sweaty, and so so grateful to our new friends Jess and Rob for sharing their sweet day with us!”

No, thanks for sharing it with us! How gorgeous is this?!

Aaron & Jay’s Sushi-Loving Rock n Roll Wedding

When I read the email that Aaron & Jay send to their photographer when they enquired about her shooting their wedding I was smitten. I wonder why huh?!

“I love your photos and would be thrilled if you could shoot our wedding on July 17th of this year. We are planning a super fun, little bit retro and a little bit country wild and crazy with a whole lot of DIY elements party here in Vancouver. ps. I found you through Rock n Roll Bride (the best wedding blog in the world).”

Yeah…flattery really will get you everywhere. Aaron & Jay’s wedding is also completely stupendously rad …always helps when you want to get your wedding featured on these here pages!

The couple were married outside The Old Hastings Mill Store, which was one of the only buildings in Vancouver to survive the Great Fire of 1886. It is now located near Jericho Beach in Kitsilano.  They were married with a view of the harbour, the boats and the mountains – bliss. For their reception they headed to Cambrian Hall.

The couple’s very first date was at Nikkyo Sushi on Main Street in Vancouver which just happened to be around the corner from their reception venue. So, for some fun wedding day pictures, the couple and their photographer Lisa headed out to have some sushi & beer. The couple also served sushi from Nikkyo Sushi at their reception!

Aaron wore a custom made dress from Dolly Couture and accessories from Farmer’s Daughter on Etsy. To compliment her outfit, her bridesmaids wore polkadot 1950s style dresses and they all had different coloured petticoats underneath. How gorgeous is that?!

Soul Mates

It’s such an honour that someone would send me a session to post only the day after they shot it! Photographer Ben Godkin  was so convinced that Mandy & Braxton’s engagement session was perfect for Rock n Roll Bride that he didn’t hesitate to email me some images – even before the whole set was complete!

“The couple , who are fierce backgammon players, were so fun and wanted to get some unique shots for their engagement photos! Ben wrote. “They were staying at a cozy little Bed and Breakfast called Settlers Crossing in Fredericksburg to finalize the details of their small wedding at Beckers wine vineyard in Sept. Mandy and Braxton had many tattoos but two that were particularly meaningful. They both had “Soul Mates” tattooed on both hands so when they joined hands they would always be reminded of their love. There was an abundance of farm animals on the property including horses, sheep, and donkeys, so we couldn’t resist using them in the shoot. Then we headed to a local land mark called Enchanted Rock and made the 20min hike up just in time to watch the sunset, and the full moon rise… It was magical!”

Simply Perfect

Tommy & Meredith are so damn cute n cool that it hurts! I am dying over their simple but perfect engagement session and their matching red and black checks are way-too-adorable. Both artists, it was obvious that they’d have to do something super creative for their engagement session. It just so fun and natural!

Funky, Modern, Urban Jungle

Have you ever seen anything so cute? First up the funky, urban jungle feel juxtaposed with her cute yellow flats, sticky-out skirt and glasses. Following that the book shop, the record store and playing on the swings and lounging in the park. Seems to me like the perfect backdrop to the perfect engagement session.

Serious Fashion & Style Inspiration

What’s not to love about this shoot? Alex & Kaori’s downtown LA engagement session was the perfect expression of who they are as a couple – lovers of LA and fashion (they are both designers.) I will never stop loving the Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon shoes (I have them in yellow & black) and Alex’s fabulous red & white checked shirt and black bow tie combo. In fact this pair have got to be some serious fashion inspiration to at least a few of you!

Prettiness

My mind is a-whirring with reflections of 2009, my plans for 2010 and where the Rock n Roll Bride train might take me (read: us – you’re coming on that trip with me, right?) but fret not, I am still here sharing the prettiness I know you all adore until I come up with my masterplan…just hang tight.

Cassie & Bryce are cuteness. That is all.

Prop City

Funfairs may have been ‘done’ in terms of what the cool kids say is ‘in’ but who gives a monkey’s about what they think? It’s the same with balloons, candy floss and even sun flair…pah I say to that! The funfair is the perfect backdrop for an engagement shoot – fun, colourful, playful and prop city! I want a photo shoot in at a fun fair in fact. Any offers?!

Lady Diana

The awesome Marianne Taylor (who shot my pinky, punky princess shoot) just sent me a selection of her most recent engagement sessions and Sam & Adam’s jumped out at me right away. Not only have I got a unhealthy obsession with toy cameras right now (they used a Diana camera as a prop) but the couple are just to damn right funky for words.

ps you have until Sunday 25th October to get your entries in for the free wedding photography contest – open to all – WORLDWIDE wooooo!
