Vegan Festival Wedding with DIY Bar and Silent Disco

Lizzy and Jack’s festival wedding is a thing of beauty; inspired by and featuring things made by lots of their creative friends, they planned a day that was a riot of music, colour, and fun. It was all vegan, too!

As music is super important to the couple – they met in Bournemouth putting on a gig for their degree course, and both work in the industry – they wanted to make it a central part of the day. “For the bridal entrance, I entered the tipi with my bride squad, and with my band – Jack, my dad, and our previous bandmates Fi and Dom – waiting on stage, I joined them on stage to sing Burn The Witch by Radiohead,” Lizzy says. “Confetti cannons were let loose and we were off! It felt like such a natural way to kick it all off, avoiding a nerve-wracking walk down the aisle. One of my favourite parts of the wedding was looking out at a sea of cheering family and friends as we were smashing through a Radiohead song, knowing this was going to be an amazing day.”

Their wedding venue was a tipi erected in a family garden, allowing Lizzy and Jack to have loads of DIY elements to their wedding. “We tried to cut out all single-use plastics, so collected and painted 100 jam jars for people to keep and drink from. This took my sister and partner about a year – we all had to eat a lot of a specific vegan curry sauce as it comes in tall jars which were perfect!” Lizzy laughs.

They also decorated the tipi with beautiful fluffy clouds on the stage, which were a thrifty spot: “If you want props, ask retails shops for their old window displays. I got five big clouds to hang from our tipi from White Stuff for a £25 donation to their affiliated charity. Wagamamas kindly saved us 12 Lucky Buddha Beer bottles for our flowers – for free. If you spot things, ask for them. They can only say no! Most people were really happy to be involved, and I sent them photos of their items in use after the wedding and got some really lovely emails back.”

Rock n Roll Cats, Pink & Metal Themed Wedding

Rhian and Andrew’s wedding theme was ‘Rock n Roll cats’ with the slogan ‘mutual weirdness forever’ and to be honest, that – coupled with the above photo – is pretty much all you need to know to want to find out more…

“We wanted to encapsulate us into our day as much as possible,” Rhian explains, “so we ended up with a lot of different elements – from cats, metal and rock, to leopard print, pink, Pokémon, skulls, and everything in between. We wanted to focus on what we both love in life and what was special between us – but we were also inspired by a lot of different weddings we viewed on your blog!” (You GUYS.)

Rhian is a designer and illustrator so created most of the elements herself, alongside friends. “Nearly everything was completely bespoke, designed, or made by us!” she says. This included table names based on band name-cat hybrids and top table signage saying ‘Hiss and Purrs’ instead of his and hers, as well as hand-painted signs and hand decorated jars filled with hot pink decor.

Cat Themed Wedding in Romania

If there’s one wedding theme I can always get on board with its a cat themed wedding. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll already know how obsessed I am with my own furbabies so obviously as soon as I saw Elena and Sebastian’s feline-featuring big day I was ready to feature it!

The pair were married in Romania, at The Wedding House in Giurgiu. “Our wedding theme was ‘Dancing Cat’!”, began the bride, “we nicknamed the event our ‘purrfect day’ though! We were both inspired by the things that we love: Our cats and animals in general, dancing, nature, greenery, strong coffee, anything-with-gin, thai food, lights (even better cat-shaped LED lights!) and having a general positivity about life.”

The couple wanted their cat theme to run through every aspect of their day. “It was very important for us to create a visual identity that we could integrate in all aspects of the wedding”, she continued, “from the invitations, to decorations, to our first dance. This is why our wedding rings have a tiny message written on the inside with a cat pun! This is also why we used Lolcats on our invitations, even if many people didn’t understand it! It goes without saying that we were very lucky to have an incredibly talented friend that draws and illustrates and that she created the perfect design for us. We were so thrilled with it that I had a bigger version printed and framed for our house. She also designed our wedding logo which we had printed onto stickers which we put on everything. We also turned it into pins that guests could wear instead of flowers.”

Minimal Cat-Themed Wedding in Philadelphia

Simple and Minimal Wedding in Philadelphia (11)

Leila and Dan’s Philadelphia wedding was simple, minimal and took place in an urban loft space, Power Plant Productions.

“We wanted to make our wedding have more of a party feel instead of a stuffy affair”, said the bride. “I didn’t really have any inspiration as such, I don’t use Pinterest, so I just found things I liked! We had our reception cocktail style with a mix of high tops and low tables and three food stations (a mac and cheese bar, a build your own taco satiation and an Thai food station). There was no assigned seating either so people could move around however they saw fit.”

They were married in front of a homemade backdrop and the venue was decorated throughout with simple mason jar and baby’s breath centrepieces. They also had a slight cat theme with their cake topper and some of the decor.

The Wedding That Trended on Twitter

Nicky and David were married in East London. They had a relatively small budget of £5000 but they were able to make it stretch by avoiding wedding specific items wherever possible. They hosted their reception in a town hall, the bride wore a dress from Monsoon, they had a homemade cake and put all the flowers together themselves. They even skipped the wedding car, choosing to get the train between their ceremony and reception venues.

“I’m not a wedding-y person”, admitted the bride, “so it wasn’t like it was something I had always dreamed of or planned. We wanted the day to be filled with in-jokes and things we find funny like cats, Twitter (we met on Twitter!), plants, books, tea and cheese. I tried to get a kitten ring bearer for the ceremony – but people were surprisingly reluctant to help me with this. I actually started to question my own sanity at this point too. Someone did actually buy us a tiny white kitten as a wedding gift though! We named her Peaches.”

Disney, Pokemon and Star Wars Wedding in Israel

Disney, Star Wars and Cat wedding (11)

Ravid and Avishai were married in Tel Aviv, Israel. They wanted the day to represent them so that meant Star Wars, Disney, Pokemon, Cats and J-pop!

“It was important for us that the wedding represented ‘us’ and the things we like”, Ravid explained. “In the end we called it (behind closed doors) the ‘Ravid and Avishai ball!’ It was a mix of things we love; Star Wars, Pokemon, Scott Pilgrim, Japanese boy bands, Disney… I guess you could say it was a geeky-fairytale themed wedding.”

“I spent a lot of time looking for ideas online, but we had a strong idea of what we wanted the wedding to be like from the beginning. The design was inspired by fairytales, Disney movies and romance books; the reception was inspired by glam-pop parties we usually go to. We wanted the wedding to be based on our relationship and the things we grew to love together.”
