Julia and Rogerio met on a plane. They were both going to a music festival in São Paulo. After chatting for the whole flight, they had a second chance meeting the the middle of 20,000 others at the festival itself. Then they were sat besides each other on the flight home. I guess you could say it was fate! As they met in their air, they wanted this to be reflected in their wedding, three years later.

“We wanted our wedding to celebrate our love and history”, said Julia. “We combined where we meet each other, where we fell in love and where we got married into our theme. We had a balloon flight between the mountains and the blue sky with our friends and family. ‘Love in the clouds’ was the inspiration.”

“As we are both geeks and great fans of TV shows, we thought our wedding couldn’t be a regular wedding”, began the bride. “We had to choose something that would look like us. We chose the British TV show Doctor Who for our inspiration. With the help of Pinterest, we collected ideas of how to make our special night even more special. I tried to spend as much time as I could making props and decoration items we could use, and the result was awesome. People at the wedding couldn’t really tell it was a themed wedding, but everybody agreed it looked just like us. They said they felt as if they were celebrating at our own house.

DIY Brazilian Wedding: Bia & Kk

rock n roll brazilian wedding5

Bia and Kk’s wedding in Brazil was inspired by the weddings they’d seen on this very blog! The couple were adamant that they wouldn’t follow tradition, and that they’d plan the wedding they really wanted.

“In Brazil wedding tend to be very traditional, so we decided to make it DIY and have things to really reflect who we are”, explained the bride. “My hair is turquoise hair, I wore my combat boots, and we bought all the flowers direct from the a supplier at dawn. It was important to us that we showed our personalities. I made my bouquet with old brooches that were my mothers. It was a way for her to be present as unfortunately she past away in 2008.”

“Rock n Roll Bride inspired us so much. So many of the weddings I saw here were a great source of reference. Even our choice of an American-style ceremony was different from most weddings here. I’d describe our theme as ‘hipster rock vintage! We saved money with almost everything. We did a lot of DIY.”

“We did some DIY and some things we nearly forgot about, like having tags on the invitations. We had to do it by ourselves because we were late with their delivery. It took several hours cutting paper, writing and making a tiny heart shaped hole in each tag. The same thing happened with the rice packs that we used instead of confetti.”

They wanted everybody to appreciate the natural beauty of the place, so all of their décor was very minimalistic and their dance floor was under a big beautiful tree.”

For her bridal shoot, Gabi, a make up artist from Rio, wanted something modern but with a boho twist. Her wedding dress was made for her and inspired by a Chanel gown she saw at a runway show. “The place is truly amazing, with perfect natural lighting and art objects”, explained photographer Marina Lomara. “I loved having the opportunity to photograph a bride so beautiful there. Here in Brazil, wedding photographers generally just have just a few minutes for the bride’s portraits on a wedding day so it was amazing to have two hours to shoot here. Gabi loves to be photographed and made sure to have a special photo session before going to the party. She did her own make up and with the short dress, pixie hair cut and dark red lips she looked like an actress right out of the 1940s.”
