Dark Botanical Wedding at Islington Metal Works

Matt and Laura, who met at University, went for a dark botanical theme for their London wedding. They were inspired by their reception venue, The Islington Metal Works and used their prop store to source a lot of the decor. They also brought in lots of things from their own home (and the homes of their friends and family!) and handmade what they could. The DIY projects included their wish tree for guests to write on, and even the cabinet where they placed the wedding favours. They were collection of personal trinkets and curios that they’d bought from various flea markets in Berlin and San Francisco that would suit each guest. Guests were invited to look through the cabinet and find the one with their name on to take away – talk about going the extra mile am I right!? All-in-all this was one hell of a cool and creative event.

“After a lot of Pinterest moodboarding, we settled on ‘Dark Botanical’ as a theme”, they began. “Our boards were full of our love for designers like Alexander McQueen, who used atmosphere and sophisticated drama to create moods, colours and textures that combined imagination with an appreciation for natural history and antique curios. We wanted a strong connection to nature to embrace a more humanitarian celebration of love over a religious one.”

“We have always had a flair for the darkly dramatic, avoiding ‘gothic’ styling but embracing alternative styles of self expression. Our wedding aimed to be a deconstruction of what a wedding could be and then rebuilding it in our personal style, but in a way that everyone coming could also embrace and join in with.”

Elegant & Botanical Twin Peaks Wedding

With a £17,000 budget and a shed ton of amazing ideas, Rebecca and Callum planned a Twin Peaks inspired wedding at The Sefton Palm House in Liverpool.

“To quote Twin Peaks, our theme was ‘both wonderful and strange’,” began the bride. “Our huge inspiration for our wedding was the wonderful and unique work of David Lynch in particular Twin Peaks! We wanted to have a wedding that was full of references and features from the show, without it being naff, we wanted guested who had never seen the show to come, and get it and think it was a beautiful wedding with a quirky well done theme!”

“I honestly felt everything about our day was unique”, she continued, “there was this amazing atmosphere through out the day, everyone was so happy and you could really feel the love. Our theme really echoed our quirky sense of humour and style and we were able to incorporate some traditional elements of a wedding into a very unusual theme which was very surreal as they went hand in hand!”

Industrial and Botanical Green House Wedding

Ellie, a florist, married Luke over the summer. They wanted their day to have both industrial and botanical elements and focused on DIY projects in order to keep things in budget. “Luke and I met at a Jamaican grill and rum shack via a mutual friend”, began the bride. “We both ordered the same meal: BBQ full rack of ribs and we knew from then it was meant to be!”

They were married on July 22nd at Langlands Garden Centre, York. “Our wedding theme was a combination of industrial and botanical. The raw metal beams of the green house mixed with a mass of mixed fresh foliage and trees, yes we wheeled real life trees into the venue. The inspiration came from our modern taste and love for the outdoors combined with my passion for all things natural, I am a qualified florist and I have worked in the industry for over four years. Nature’s movement, wildness and changing seasons inspire my work everyday so this was a big part of the vision. I had SO many visions! Too many! Thankfully my mother used to be a florist too and our friend Jo is a very talented one also so I made sure to get them on board.”

Oklahoma City Tattoo Studio Wedding

Raegan and Randy had their summer wedding at Blackmint Collective Tattoo Studio in Oklahoma City. It was the perfect venue as they and most of their bridal party and guests all have tattoos. There’s a real industrial feel to their day, with the venue’s exposed lighting rigs and brick walls dotted with modern art, all softened by details like pastel-glazed donuts and the delicate greens of succulents. It’s a look that says modern wedding with an edge, and it’s beautiful.

Describing the vibe, the bride said they went with “Simplicity. We didn’t want the big stressful wedding, we just wanted to celebrate us!” But there was room to also include the unique details, and she added, “I definitely think having our wedding on a Sunday morning with donuts and mimosas in a tattoo shop made us a little different!”

Megan and Brad wanted their wedding to be a blend of natural, industrial and vintage, with a nod to the wabi-sabi aesthetic; the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection. They were inspired mostly by modern industrial and moody botanical styles. They also knew they wanted to get married in New York City, where they met and have lived for some time.

“When we began researching venues we discovered the beautiful Greenpoint Loft only a few blocks from our apartment and knew that it was perfect for us,” said Megan. “We fell in love with the warm industrial aesthetic and the fact that we could totally create the wedding we’d envisioned in the open space. Plus, there was a perfect view of the NYC skyline from the windows and deck!”
