How to…Get the Best out of Rock n Roll Bride

Credit: via make yeah!

OK so I love you guys. I’ve been reading all of your responses to my readers survey (nearly 1000 of them!!) and now my poor web/IT guru husband & I have got a lot of work to do to implement some of your fabulous ideas! However I wanted to take the time to write this little User Guide style post to try and make your Rock n Roll Bride experience even better in the interim.

A few little niggles about the site came up over and over again and while some of them are major overhaul kind of things (and a lot of them were actually things I had been wanting to change anyway) there were a few points raise about the usability of the site which may be rectified with a bit of clarification. As a total blog-obsessive myself I think it’s easy for me to forget that coming to my site as a new reader might be a bit of a daunting experience in terms of where to start, and how to navigate your way around it in the easiest fashion. Here’s where this post comes in. Get your notebooks at the ready class and I hope this guide is useful!

Search
One of the things that came up over and over again was the Search facility. First of all, I do have a search bar on the site. It is situated just above where it says ‘Link Love’ and ‘About the Girl’. Secondly some of you said they didn’t feel it worked very well.

The search bar I’ve chosen is a Google search. That basically means it searches my site the way Google searches the internet. Therefore if you search for ‘DIY’ for example, the results brought up will be any post which is either tagged as ‘DIY’ or features the word ‘DIY’. The top result will be the most popular or most relevant post to your search based on keywords used. Again, and as with Google, when you click a link it will change the whole page to the link you’ve clicked, so to go back and see more results you do have to type your search term into the box again. However to avoid this, simply ‘right-click’/’open in a new tab’ (on a PC, sorry I don’t know the Mac equivalent) to keep the search intact.

A Sunday Kind of Love – You Lot!

Credit: via scabrous applauses

Warning: Overly gushing post ahead

When I started thinking about this week’s Sunday Kind of Love post there was really only one group of people I could devote it to—you lot!! Seriously, I’m actually feeling a little bit emotional as I write this. I’ve just been reading though all your survey responses and all the LOVELY things you’ve said about me and my little blog. I literally don’t have the words to express how awesome you guys are and how much love is filling my little pink heart right now.

Thank you so much for being you.

Thank you so much for being individuals.

Thank you so much for wanting to do things your own way.

Thank you so much for loving what I do.

Thank you so much for reading what I have to say and for saying such gushing things about me and Rock n Roll Bride.

I started the blog to be a mini haven in this often pukeworthy wedding world and I could never have imagined that so many people all over the world would not only agree with my (often seen as warped!) point of view, but speak so openly and expressively about your love for what I do. I am SO HAPPY to have inspired so many of you and to feel like I’ve helped you all in some way with your weddings, your businesses and your lives.

I’m just a pink haired chick with one to many tattoos, who can’t spell (like, seriously can’t spell!) who spends too much time on the internet, who gets stared at in the street for looking different who used to beat herself up inside and out for being the way she was. I’m just a girl who was bullied at school for being different and not fitting in. In my wildest dreams I could not imagine a more amazing group of people to read my words and love what I have to say.

I might just go and have a little cry…

Thank you so much.

What Exactly IS a Rock n Roll Wedding?

Credit: Malgosia Bela by Mario Testino via Fashion Gone Rogue

The question I dread when I meet people for the first time (which is of course the question that they then always ask) is “So, what’s the most ‘Rock n Roll’ wedding you’ve ever seen?” (and yes, they sometimes even do the air quotes {{shudder}} )

First off CHRIST, if they knew how many weddings I’d seen over the last 3 years their heads might explode. It is a lot! How do I choose between them all? How can I possibly pick just one? Or even just one style of wedding? The great thing about Rock n Roll weddings is the vast differences between them all. It would be like a choice between a pair of Vivienne Westwood shoes or a huge big pink cupcake. They are not mutually exclusive and I want both please!

The other thing that happens to me a lot is people say (usually in comments and anonymously I might add) “Well that wedding is not very Rock n Roll is it? Why did you feature that?” or even worse I once got “Who the hell are you? You’re not 50’s rockabilly in style at all! You are a fake. You are not Rock n Roll!” Erm…correct! I am not 50’s rockabilly in any way. Have I ever claimed to be?

OK confession/apology time again. I’m forgoing this week’s Sunday Kind of Love post. Eeek…don’t be mad. Thing is, wedding season is nuts and I have so much awesomeness to blog that I only flippin’ forgot to blog this month’s Photo Pro Magazine article. Deary me. Bad Kat.

So I’m sacrificing today SKOL (heheh) to share this with you instead. It ain’t that the love has ended – far from that. In fact I’ve got so much love for so many of you at the moment that I couldn’t narrow it down to one person ANYWAY…so win win. There, I now feel justified in my decision!
