Laidback Pride Themed Barn Wedding with Trinidadian Feast and Colourful Bridal Suits

OK, prepare your minds, bodies and souls for the stunning wedding that’s about to grace your screens – this is not a drill! Anna and Steph’s beautiful barn wedding had a focus on “Good food, good music and fun” with a colour scheme to celebrate Pride. It was natural, un-fussy, and totally, breathtakingly beautiful.

The ceremony started with Anna and Steph dancing down the aisle together hand-in-hand, each in incredible wedding outfits influenced by powerful women. “As two women we decided not to go down the traditional ‘one dress, one suit’ route,” they explained. “Anna, inspired by Janelle Monáe’s style, wore an iTailor blue suit with braces. Steph, inspired by Beyoncé, wore a Tina Waller jumpsuit in her favourite colour, orange (with a touch of lace). For both of us, pockets were an important feature! Seeing each other for the first time in our outfits was a standout moment for us both.”

Their ceremony was held in the barn at Bellows Mill, Bedfordshire. “We chose the venue because they allowed us to get creative and personalise the space,” they continued. “Due to our outfits being less bridal than is traditional; and the day in general being less ‘weddingy,’ we wanted to be a bit more traditional/bridal in the barn decoration so we went for cream and golds. Anna’s parents decorated the barn beautifully with gold and cream drapes, fairy lights, and art work from the local wickerman!” Their family and friends, representing three generations, delivered beautiful and meaningful readings, and Anna and Steph read poems instead of doing traditional vows.

Fat-Positive Welsh Woodland Wedding

Lucy and Rob’s wedding was inspirational for so many reasons – not only was it a whimsical-meets-punk festival wonderland, but it was also totally fat-positive and body-positive experience.

“Our wedding was 100% fat positive and body positive,” Lucy explains. “I refuse to buy into this ridiculous notion that you can’t possibly be fat and also happy to get married, and I didn’t change my body to fit in with the impossible ‘bridal ideal’ pushed by the mainstream wedding industry. We went to a few wedding fairs and the lack of diversity, and the promotion of cosmetic surgery, was just depressing. It made me more determined to use as many independent suppliers as possible and reject the dominant narrative.”

As as a plus-size bride, Lucy was worried that she’d feel uncomfortable or be body-shamed, but the bit of getting married she was most concerned about ended up as her favourite part! Her dress was a bespoke piece from E&W Couture which she found at Rachel Burgess Bridal Boutique, with a beautiful green skirt. “I knew I wanted to have colour in the skirt, and after some back and forth we decided green was the right choice,” she says. “Sophie (from E&W) and Rachel were angels to work with!”

Colourful Bird-Themed Festival Wedding Where EVERYTHING was DIY

Becci and Josh’s colourful DIY bird-themed wedding was an absolute DREAM, and you’re going to adore the photos, I just know it. These two lovebirds (geddit!?) did loads of their day themselves, and produced a super creative wedding choc-full of alternative wedding inspiration.

Their bird theme came from them both loving the outdoors, nature and festivals, and Becci’s dad getting her hooked on watching birds at a young age. They incorporated the theme into essentially every element of the day, including an actual birds of prey flying display as part of the entertainment for guests.

“We’re both really creative people and decided really early on in the planning process that we wanted to make the wedding our own,” Becci explains. “To do this, we basically made everything ourselves!” Over the course of a year, Becci and Josh made 100s of woollen pomp oms and over 1,400 origami cranes to suspend from the barn with coloured ribbon. The paper cranes featured on their incredible DIY wedding backdrop for their lawn ceremony too, which Josh made from wood and ribbon.

Fully Self-Catered DIY Barn Wedding

Natasha and Paul had a relaxed summer church wedding, followed by their colourful reception in a beautiful rustic barn. DIY played a huge part, and between themselves and their family they handled the invitations, cake, flowers, decorations, wedding favours, hair and make-up, setting up the venue, and cleaning it the next day. The groom and the usher even catered the event!

The couple knew exactly how they wanted things to go down regarding styling. Paul said, “As we both come from a hospitality background, we were sure that we didn’t want a typical hotel style wedding, which we felt was too impersonal. We wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere and simply enjoy the day. We both love bright colours and knew we wanted to stay away from pastels and black!”
