Florence Welch Directed by Wes Anderson & a Dash of Sailor Moon

If you don’t immediately love Cami and Pilo and their INCREDIBLE OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD BEAUTIFUL wedding then we can never be friends. Period. They were married at a friends house in Chile in April. The wedding was a collaborative project between them and their friends, they even self-catered the entire event!

The day was inspired by the aesthetics of Florence Welch and Wes Anderson as well as Sailor Moon. They actually met as Sailor Moon cosplay team mates,”Cami was Sailor Neptune and Pilo was Sailor Uranus”, they said.

Of their $2000 budget, they saved the most on the catering (DIY), the venue (a friends house) and entertainment (Spotify playlist). Cami’s dress was also a gift. “Pilo works as Art Director, so he designed every visual piece, from the save the date image to the bathroom sign and the favours. We filled every little organza bag with pink salt from the Andes, tied the little ropes and everything.”

Festival Inspired Back Garden Wedding

Rebekah and Tom’s September wedding was held in their own back garden. They didn’t set a budget but tried to save money where they could. They were inspired by the festivals they both love to go to.

“We’re both such busy people that we didn’t have a theme or anything”, the bride began. “Our main goal was to make the day super relaxed and make sure everyone was comfortable and happy. I guess there was a festival feel to the day as I work at festivals all summer long and Tom is really outdoorsy. We definitely wanted a tent and a field and we were really lucky that our house has such a great garden. We could fit the tent, an outdoor bar and a fire pit without feeling crushed.”

The bride wore a vintage dress that she bought at Secret Garden Party. “I found my dress a Lady Jane’s at Secret Garden Party. My mum was actually already halfway through mocking up my dress (I am a fourth generation seamstress and I had always thought she would make it) but when I tried on this dress I knew it was the one. It was exactly the same as the dress I’d drawn up for my mum to make! I thought I’ll just try it on for fun but it fitted so well and the ladies in the shop were almost crying! My bridesmaids were helping me run my shop next door and came running in, also crying! I knew it was the one. I went and stood out on the grass in front of our shops and people started to stop to congratulate me! One girl came up and held my face and didn’t say anything, just nodded her head at me, her boyfriend had to take her away (I think she was a bit squiffy – ha ha) So I sent my mum a picture and she messaged back in seconds saying ‘BUY IT!!’ I didn’t wait, I just went in and paid cash… it was a dream!”

Intimate and Meaningful Wedding at Home

Intimate and Meaningful Wedding at Home (60)

Emily and Glenn were married at the bride’s childhood home. She wore her grandmother’s wedding dress and they wanted to make sure everything they did minimised waste. “Our wedding inspiration was to use second-hand, borrowed, vintage and thrift store finds”, Emily explained, “We really focused on re-purposing things for the day. This meant incorporating vintage furniture as seating and using items my father had collected over the last 30 years as décor. Everything was DIY but since we did not want to buy anything new we stayed away from crafting and mostly decorated with old lanterns and vintage furniture. We also borrowed a lot of stuff from friends and family so that we didn’t have to buy brand new things.”

“Our biggest inspiration was to keep it meaningful. Every element of our wedding represented some connections to our families. I had my wedding ring made from two rings – one which belonged to my great grandmother and the other belonged to Glenn’s mother. My dress and necklace were both family heirlooms. Glenn and I decided to have the wedding at my parents’ home because it was a place that meant a lot to me and somewhere that we both loved being. Having a small venue meant we also had to keep the guest list small, so all our guests were our closest friends and family. Having a small guest list was wonderful because Glenn and I were both able to spend a lot of time with everyone, which was important to both of us.”

DIY Back Garden Wedding Inspired by Africa

Emma and Leigh had their wedding in their own back garden. They wanted something relaxed and colourful, and inspired by some of their favourite places.

“The inspiration for our wedding grew over the few months we were engaged, we didn’t set out with an initial plan but knew we wanted it to feel relaxed, colourful and have a country element”, said Emma. “I lived in Kenya for a while and love the bright colours of African material. I bought some when I went to Uganda last year and began making bunting. A shop in Tetbury called Artique is an Aladdin cave of Indian artefacts. The owner showed us bright wall hangings and large umbrellas which they have used at Womad festival. We also wanted to bring in a country feel. I love sunflowers, so this also added to the expanding bright colour theme.”

The ceremony was held at Westonbirt Arboretum and the bride arrived in her Grandpa’s consul. “It was much more relaxed and personalised than we could have ever imagined”, she explained. “There were spontaneous fist pumps between Leigh and bridesmaids as they came down the aisle. We had lovely readings that were chosen by our friends and two special songs sung by our talented friends.”

Pastel Funfair Back Garden Wedding

Are you ready to witness the fitness of the prettiest garden wedding ever? Well prepare yourself because Jennifer and Jordan
’s German wedding is seriously gorgeous! They were married in August at the bride’s family home.

“We wanted everything to be unique and personal so we spent a lot of time hunting for decorations on eBay and flea markets and making SO MUCH stuff”, Jennifer said. “Like most brides today, Pinterest became my best friend was a huge help getting all our ideas together. I probably had about 10 different wedding boards by the end! We decided early on that we wanted to get married in my parents’ garden so we built the wedding around that. We went for a little Alice in Wonderland vibe mixed with a vintage funfair and lots of small details. I think the wedding represented us as a couple and all things we love. Jordan and I both work in the film industry in creative jobs so we were very particular on how we wanted every tiny detail to look, almost like building a film set.”

The couple made almost everything at their wedding, it took eight whole months of daily crafting! “We made about 350 differently decorated jars for our table decorations, my dad sawed tree slices from an old collapsed tree for us, my uncle helped us built all the four funfair booths, we made our vintage living room photo wall from scratch and decorated it with old family wedding photos from both sides. Each guest received a jar of home made vanilla rhubarb strawberry jam as their name tag, my aunt sewed the bunting from mountains of old fabrics everyone collected, and my mum and I spent hours decorating the cans that we attached to the bridal car and decorating the bridesmaids hangers with their initials. Jordan’s sister made the home made lemonade for our lemonade stand.”

Batman & Jester Wedding with the Groom Arriving on a Camel!

Batman jester camel wedding (43)

I bet you’ve never seen a wedding quite like this! A groom in a purple suit arriving on a camel is totally normal right? The wedding took place in the bride’s parent’s back garden in San Marcos, California, in July.

“My parents had been wanting to remodel the back yard for years, and the wedding gave the excuse to finally do the upgrades they desired”, began Anna, the bride. “They removed several palm trees, built a retaining wall and put in a staircase from the top level to the lower level that ended up being the perfect aisle. They also planted green and purple flowers and vegetation so that the backyard was completely in our colours by the time of the wedding.”

I don’t think we can go much further without mentioning their guest of honour, Camelot the camel! ” Keith just loves camels”, Anna said. “Our home and his desk at work are decorated with dozens of camel figures. Shortly after we started dating, we learned that there is a camel dairy in Ramona. We have been to there many times for their events and shows. However, it was my parents that first suggested that Keith ride into the ceremony on a camel. So, we had to! He came in as Nine Inch Nails played.”
