A Backyard Wedding with a Family-Focus & Cardboard Cut Out Flowergirls

Like most couples who wed last year, Kayla and William had to make some big changes in order to have a small pandemic-friendly wedding. They were originally planning a big, country club wedding for August, which has now been postponed to 2021. However as the pair have lived apart for 4 1/2 years of their five year relationship (the groom lived in Ohio and the bride in New York), they just wanted to be married already. Their kiss after the ceremony was the first time they had kissed in over 200 days!

They planned a small ceremony in the bride’s bride’s parent’s back garden. Obviously not everyone could attend, including the flowergirls who live in a different state, so their family sent life-sized cardboard cut outs of them wearing the dresses they had bought to wear for the wedding! Neighbours watched from their back porches and even dressed up to celebrate with them from a distance.

A Pretty in Pink, DIY Back Garden Wedding

You probably already know this, but here at Rock n Roll Bride we are pretty much obsessed with pink, so when Amy and Adam’s wedding landed in our submissions inbox we were thrilled! The couple were married at the bride’s mum’s house in September and the entire wedding was DIY. Pink was the very obvious theme, but the bride loves Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, so that was a big reference point for them too,

“We love pink, flowers and general cuteness, so centred the wedding around this”, Amy said. “We also had a few nods to Japan, cats and ethereal fairies. As I am a huge fan of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, we had fans as favours which were a hot commodity!”

A Laid Back House Party Wedding in Italy

Eugenia and Enrico’s theme for their Italian wedding was ‘take it easy’. That meant they wanted to make the celebration as fun, stress-free and easy for everyone as possible. They told their guests they could dress casually, however they felt most comfortable, the goal was really just to have a party where they happened to get married!

“Our dream has always been to create an amazing party rather than a traditional ceremony”, said the bride, “where everyone could be free to enjoy themselves. The day started with a simple and quick civil ceremony followed by a nice lunch of beer and chat. Then the real fun came – our friends organised a multi-religious ceremony and at the same time we sang, danced and played! Then the party took off with diving in the pool, cocktails and music and a great desire to have fun!”

Laid Back Bohemian Garden Wedding with a Barefoot Bride and a £300 Budget!

Zoe and Perry’s wedding was a minimal budget, maximum happiness kinda day. They created a laid back, fun, bohemian day with loads of cute, cheerful decor that was entirely ‘Zoe and Perry themed’, and overall they only spent about £300 in their own money, with the rest coming from donations and contributions from their pals.

“My inspiration was to create our wedding with what I already had”, Zoe began. “The idea of making something from unsuspecting cheap materials and charity shops was great for us – I do love a project! It was simple, bohemian, unconventional and very us.”

Having originally begun wedding planning five years ago, before Perry was in a bad accident, their perspective on the wedding industry, and getting married, had totally shifted. ‘We know that if we got married when we originally planned to it wouldn’t have been the wedding we wanted and it would have ruined us financially and emotionally. We did lose money cancelling but looking back feel like we gained a good insight into what could have been.”
