Eccentric, Retro & Kitsch

Chen Lie & Thom got married in Oz in a crazy, wild and fun party way. She is Australian and he is British (they now live and work in Prague!) so they decided to head over to Chen Lie’s hometown of Perth for their 1960s/70s/John & Yoko inspired wedding.

“I had been living in Korea on and off for the past 9 years so it was exciting to return home” Chen Lie told me. “We planned a simple elopement with a romantic 60s theme in the park but it turned into a wedding due to the kindness of family and friends.  Everything was a gift from he photographer to the catering.  It was a magical day.  The day before the wedding my Made of Awesome took us vintage shopping and surprised us by paying for Thom’s vintage 70s Yves Saint Laurent suit and my vintage 60s hat.”

Sentimental, Personal & Vintage

David & Julie-Anne’s wedding shoot was a total reflection on who they are as a couple. Everything they chose to wear had special meaning to them and was sentimental and personal. “We didn’t want the usual stresses of a modern day wedding to take away from the love and happiness of our day, so we chose to keep it simple, fun and comfortable” they explained.

Julie-Anne wore an original German 1950’s ivory capture lace and satin dress which was the heirloom of a family friend. With this she wore a vintage burgundy & black English worsted & wool tapestry coat with fur collar, ‘Papucchi’ flats and a small burgundy hat with rose detail and black netting.

The full list of everything used and worn can be seen after the ‘jump’

An Eclectic, Vintage & Non Traditional Bridal Look

Photographer Amanda and her model Cathy wanted to style a shoot that didn’t in anyway reflect the usual bridal look. They wanted to explore how using what the bride loves can and should shape her bridal look and not the preconceived ideas portrayed by the wedding industry. “The inspiration for this shoot was Cathy and all the things she loves” explained Amanda. “She has very eclectic tastes and is a collector of beautiful things. Both of the dresses were vintage pieces that she has picked up over the years along with the jewellery and jackets. Cathy also loves Vivienne Westwood hence her hair colour and the shoes.”

The shoot was held at Kerrowgair B&B in Yass, Australia – not only a wonderfully romantic setting for a wedding, but the perfect contrast to their non-traditional bridal look.

The Italian Way – A Classic & Stylish Rock n Roll Tuscany Wedding

Mike & Laura’s wedding excites me as not only did it take place in Tuscany, Italy but they found their photographer JMCL Photography through Rock n Roll Bride! Yesssss.

The couple are originally from Australia and chose the beautiful old town of Lucca in Tuscany to get married. Being abroad, the wedding was a very small, personal and intimate one with only their closest family and friends in attendance. The wedding was also a very laid back one – the couple arrived in the town the night before and did a lot of arranging on the spot. That’s the Italian way to do it!

“The ceremony at Lucca Town Hall was of course organised in advance, but lunch, dinner and afternoon entertainment was all put in place almost as the day unfolded!” Jordon told me. “Really heavy rain meant that Mike and Laura wanted to play things by ear; they wanted to hire bikes to ride around the city walls in the afternoon, for example, but left the decision to see what the weather was doing and in the meantime dived into a gorgeous, typically Italian cafe/restaurant for lunch. The rain stopped and they got to ride, so all was good.”

Couture Funfair Bridals

Andrew & Talitha were married last year but were keen to do something a little different and have fun doing another photo shoot. “After many emails with Talitha, I knew she and Andrew would be perfect for a fun fair shoot we had been dying to make happen” photographer Angie told me. “We wanted a certain look – 50’s inspired hair and makeup and I knew we had to have a lollipop bouquet and lollipop buttonholes for Andrew.”

The shoot was held at The Hawkesbury Show that happened just one weekend a year, and is about an hours drive from Sydney. “This smaller show was the perfect opportunity to shoot our 50’s Fun Fair Couture Bridal Portrait. The plan was to just have fun. We weren’t sure what games or rides would be there but we knew what we were hoping for. We made sure we headed for the carousel first – we thought these would be our favourite images but it wasn’t until Talitha and Andrew said they were happy to go on the swinging chairs that the magic started to happen.”
