Minimal Halloween Wedding with 90s Influences

Jessica and JR had a two-day wedding. Their legal courthouse ceremony was held on Halloween with their big reception party a couple of days later at Passalino’s, an events space in Downtown Louisville. They wanted their wedding to be like no other Halloween weddings, to them that meant keeping things minimal, elegant and modern – no themed props, pumpkins or skull decorations here!

The pair, who had known each other for a while, got engaged a week after their first date!! “After a decade of friendship, I agreed to go on a date with JR to dinner and a large fireworks display”, Jessica began. “We quickly realised we were in love. There were literally fireworks. Not wanting to waste any more time, he proposed over drinks at our favourite wine bar a week later and I said yes!”

90s Nostalgia Inspired Wedding with Retro Toys and Feminist Touches

Nick and InĂ©s didn’t really have inspiration for how they wanted their wedding day to look and feel: “To be honest,” said InĂ©s, “we just threw together a bunch of stuff that we loved and hoped for the best!” They ended up with a day filled with childhood nostalgia – from the retro toy decorations collected from scouring eBay, charity shops and their parents attics, to the childhood photos of themselves that adorned every table at their reception.

It was important to the couple that their day was fun and relaxed. “I honestly believe that organising a wedding is as much work as you want to make it,” said InĂ©s. “I didn’t want it to be this massive stressful thing that made us argue, so instead of doing things to try and please other people (you won’t ever please everyone anyway!) we focused on planning things to be as laid-back as possible.”
