Homely Laidback Barn Wedding with Navy Dress, Dogs & Beer Blessing

Emma and Kevin wanted their wedding celebrations to reflect their lives, ‘as if you’d just walked into their house’, and I think they totally nailed it. A relaxed barn ceremony, a navy (non) wedding dress from Dorothy Perkins, and their two lurchers made their day super personalised and absolutely perfect for them. Bucking loads of traditions – which Emma wisely says “carry too much symbolic baggage”, they got married on a Tuesday to save money. Oh, and they also had a beer blessing. So, y’know…

They describe the decor they used at Deepdale Farm as “an eclectic mix of junk” designed to make their guests feel like they’ve just entered their home, including vinyls, snow globes and flowers, the exact kind of things they have lying around their house. “First and foremost we wanted our friends and family to have a good time,” Emma and Kevin explain. “We thought about how we could make them laugh – we got napkins done with close up photos of us on them as we thought it would be hilarious for people to wipe their mouths on our faces…”

They kept the ceremony light-hearted, keeping true to what they truly wanted. “As we were legally married the week before in the registry office, we had the freedom to be a bit creative with it. Led by our wonderful celebrant Louisa Starr, it involved our guests doing readings, a quiz answering questions about each other in teams, and a Countdown conundrum. It was totally daft! Our dogs Max and Matilda ‘gave us away’ and totally stole the show at times. We handed out beer from our favourite local brewery, Magic Rock, and had a beer blessing as a sort of interval – our ceremony afterwards was punctuated with cries of ‘All Hail the Beer!’ We finished off the ceremony with our friends reading Dr Seuss’ poem Oh The Places We’ll Go in a flash-mob style, party poppers, and David Bowie’s Heroes.”

Snowy Rock n Roll Meets Game of Thrones Mountaintop Elopement in New Zealand!

If this elopement had a soundtrack, it’d be a very emotional rendition of You Take My Breath Away mixed with the Game of Thrones theme tune. Jess and Sam’s beautiful wedding is a genuine breath-taker, as they got married at Glendhu Bay Lookout, which looks over the Mount Aspiring National Park. Fittingly, I am now aspiring to get to this national park, stat. Then, they took a helicopter ride to Fog Peak and, well, the photos speak for themselves.

“We’ve never been fans of large, traditional style weddings so we’ve always wanted to do something a little different from the norm,” Jess says. “We also fell in love with New Zealand and the beautiful landscapes when we did a road trip around the country in 2017. After considering different types of weddings to have at home in Australia with friends and family, we decided that it wasn’t ‘us’, and that we had to do what made us happy. We both wholeheartedly agreed that we wanted to have an intimate wedding and get married amongst the stunning scenery in NZ!”

Bold and Bright Galaxy-Inspired Bridal Shoot

Am I going to hear collective groans if I tell you today’s styled shoot is out of this world? OK, probably deserved, but you’re going to replace those groans with gasps when you see it in all of its dark and celestial beauty!

The shoot was styled by Cathy at Boelle Events, who wanted to push boundaries (a cause we can get totally behind!) “The idea for the shoot came from wanting to rethink ‘celestial’ styling and show that you can still go big and bold and create a daring, unique and sophisticated look”, she explained.

“As a venue stylist I’m always trying to show that you take any theme and really run with it. I wanted to play on the moody and magical colours associated with space so decided to work with deep blues, golds, magentas and blacks which were brought to life by wild flowers and vibrant crystals.”

If you’ve got Issue 22 of the magazine (it’s on sale now, so do go grab it!) you’ll notice the stellar backdrop Cathy used to showcase the gorgeous Legend Bridal Designs dresses. “It’s important for me to show couples that you can step away from the traditional dress and styling and still have something utterly gorgeous, but unique to you,” Cathy explains.

Both models are wearing Legends Bridal Designs, showing a gorgeous light and dark interpretation of the theme. One of the models is wearing a divine plunge neck dress in black sparkles and star embellishments around the waist (not to mention the pentagram ribbon lacing at the back!) whilst the other is wearing a super cute white lace two-piece with an angular bodice section and full skirt. Peep the little star freckles by Rebecca Anderton too!

Book-Inspired Greenhouse Wedding in the 42°C Melbourne Heat

Ella and Michael’s wedding is the wedding of plant lovers’ dreams. Their venue was the Glasshaus, a plant nursery based in Melbourne, and their styling was simple, green and nerdy – in the most breathtaking way! It’s so beautiful I’d even brave the 42°C heat (yep, celsius, you read that right; Ella and Michael got married on the hottest day of the year) to be there, and that’s coming from a girl who complains at 22 degrees. But enough about me – let’s talk about this STUNNER of a big day, shall we?

The couple had decided early on that they wanted a big dinner party with food and drink as their focus. Unusually, Ella and Michael chose their caterer before they chose anything else, then working with The Farm Café and their wedding planner Amelia to find a venue that was suitable.

Cute as Candy Retro Balloon Wedding

Sam and David got married last year in a whirlwind of pastel-coloured fun with loads of retro-inspired touches including super cute stationery (well, when the bride is a stationer, you have to don’t you?!)

“We were the first couple to get married in the pergola outside in the gardens of Briars Hall Hotel, so it was a bit of an experiment for them!” Sam explains. “I felt sick with nerves but it was lovely. After we had said I do, I’d planned on a confetti cannon picture, but some of the guests found them and surprised us as we walked back up the aisle. I nearly wet myself!”

The pergola was adorned with giant three-foot tasselled candy colour balloons from Brilliant Balloons and personalised bunting – just one of the many stationery touches Sam designed for the day. “I’m lucky that I’m a stationer – I run Prim & Glad Bespoke Wedding Stationery – so I made most of the little elements of our wedding that make the difference. As well as the bunting, I made the guest book sign, candy buffet sign, table plan, table names, menu, favour tags, photo wall, etc…”

Minimalist Pub Wedding Shoot Inspired By Neil Gaiman

We’ve got the most delicious wedding inspiration for you today in the form of this super stylish shoot from Stephanie Green Wedding Photography and Blonde Army. It’s always a treat to hear the personal stories and inspirations behind people’s weddings and this is no different, as it’s inspired by a Neil Gaiman poem!

“This shoot was inspired by Neil Gaiman’s poem All I Know About Love, which he wrote for his friends at their wedding party and then posted on his blog journal. I’m a full on fangirl for Gaiman,” Stephanie explains. “In it he speaks of light and dark, so I used this to build upon, using low light, dark shadows and bright light.”
