Intimate Americana Ghost Town Wedding in Arizona

I love today’s couple, Olivia and Joseph, for their do-no-harm-and-take-no-shit approach to wedding planning. Their intimate Ghost Town wedding was nothing short of breathtaking – just the two of them in Jerome, Arizona, getting ready together and then getting married (and livestreaming it!). Although it wasn’t an elopement, they turned their wedding into an awesome adventure, and a stunning one at that.

High school sweethearts – bonding over a Set Your Goals t-shirt and having their first conversation about Dave Grohl – they’d been engaged for almost five years. “Every time we started to talk about a wedding, we would get overwhelmed,” Olivia explains. “Money, travelling, communications… it all just seemed like a lot. In August 2017, Joseph opened up a copy of the Phoenix New Times and saw an ad for somewhere in Jerome. We just kind of agreed that that would be where we were wed, then we decided on Halloween, and everything just evolved from there.”

Bright Mexican Inspired DIY Lawn Wedding

Liz and Ade decided to have a wedding that totally reflected what they wanted, getting rid of ALL the traditions they didn’t find important – and we have ALL the love for their beautiful day! They transformed their dry hire venue into a bright and relaxed fiesta, held outdoors in some gorgeous (and unusual!) June sunshine.

“I’d always wanted to get married outside, but it’s not as easy as you’d think in England!” Liz warns. Despite this, once they found their dream outdoors venue – Huntsmill Farm in Buckingham – everything fell into place. “We chose to have a handfasting ceremony in the gorgeous grounds of Huntsmill Farm, having legally married at a pretty registry office one month previous. Martin and Rhiannon from Perfect Handfastings were amazing and lead such a meaningful ceremony – everyone commented on how beautiful it was! No one had been to a handfasting before and all enjoyed something a little different.” During the ceremony, they handed out cake and mead to everyone. They also chose to have an unplugged ceremony: “It means so much to me that you can see everyone enjoying the ceremony rather than looking through their phones.”

Whimsical Woodland Wedding Featuring Foxes, Star Wars & Lots of Colour

Lucy and Stuart’s playful wedding brought together elements of everything that they loved. To suit their rustic barn venue, High House Farm Brewery in Matfen, they went with a woodland vibe, which they then added whimsical edges to it as, in Lucy’s own words, “I wanted to add unicorns and glitter!” Squirrels, foxes and unicorns were the inspiration for the day, and this totally shows. “I wanted to include lots of things that were special to us, and I love anything personalised so everything we did had a bit of ‘us’ in it.”

As film fans and comic lovers (after initially talking on OK Cupid, they met for the first time at a London Comicon where Lucy was dressed as the Troll Hunter from the film Troll Hunter!) the guys all had paper buttonholes made from comic books or music sheets by Becky Meadows. The ladies all had daisy chains, to keep up with the whimsical woodland feel. Stuart also managed to get a Star Trek quote into the ring exchange that was part of their laid back ceremony.

Vegas-Inspired Wedding with Snazzy Suits, Sequins & All the Confetti!

Gemma’s ‘Suits and Sequins’ summary of her wedding to Guy is very apt, as in true Sinatra style they did things their way. Their Peckham wedding, shot by megababe Devlin Photos, was emotional and incredible from start to finish, from that sparkly green wedding dress (swoon) to the ‘Silly Old Beans’ sign they were married under, and the story behind their couples’ amazing portraits…

“There wasn’t a straight up inspiration for the wedding,” explains Gemma, who works in events as a day job. “With any event I plan I can find that really restrictive, and the beauty of a wedding is that you don’t have to have those boundaries. It can just be about you two, even if nobody else ‘gets it’. Having said that, we did ask everyone to dress in suits and sequins, and it was amazing how everyone turned up – the best dressed bunch of wonderful people.”

Speaking of sequins, Gemma looked every inch the glittery goddess in a spangly green number. “My dress was made by my bridesmaid, Nadia. I found the whole focus on what I was wearing quite overwhelming – it seemed to be everyone’s first question! Even though I left making it until a few weeks before the wedding, we had been searching for the perfect fabric for a few months. I wanted the perfect deep green so I felt like a Supreme. The dress shape was taken from a £12 New Look dress I loved the shape of on myself, which we then adapted.”

Eccentric Colourful Dog-Friendly Wedding in Texas

Jamie and Jason’s wedding was a riot of colour and fun and took place in Liberty Hill, Texas. Their only inspiration was their family and friends and wanting to make sure there was a comfortable, fun and unique experience for everyone. And going on these photos, they definitely did that!

They hosted their whole wedding at Casa Rio de Colores a stunning and eccentric house on the waterside full of bright colours and gorgeous mosaics, which they rented for the whole weekend. “Our wedding didn’t have a ‘theme’ per se, but it was an entire weekend getaway!” Jamie says. “We rented our venue for Friday – Monday (with lodging included) for only $2750. Our guests were able to swim in the river, relax or go for a walk on the nature trails, and really let loose during party time! Almost all 70 of our guest list stayed on site for Saturday night. We just wanted to have one big party with all of our loved ones – getting to hang out for several days, meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones really was special. I truly believe some life-long friendships were made that weekend.”

It was also really important to Jamie and Jason that their dogs were allowed there – for their stationery, a friend designed a wedding logo comprising of their two dogs’ faces, which they used on the invitations and the thumbprint book they used as a guestbook. They also had them in their photos, and referenced them in their ceremony. “Our ceremony was short, sweet and heartfelt, with our mutual best friend Nic officiating. When we were in the planning stage, we both wanted Nic as part of our wedding party and fought over him until I realised the perfect solution: he could be right in the middle.” Jamie continues, “Our vows were filled with jokes, references to our beloved dogs, mentions of adversity and promises for the future. It’s difficult to choose but this was my favourite part of the day.”

Intimate Bohemian Beach Side Vow Renewal in Gran Canaria

Fittingly for last week’s heatwave, we have Kenzi and Joel’s romantic beach elopement on the blog today, and it is HOT. They took to Gran Canaria to renew their vows in an intimate ceremony, the photos of which are an absolute bohemian dream.

Gran Canaria Wedding Photographer SuperWeddings accompanied them to the beach to capture the passion between the couple. Having first met them at a workshop, Sebastian says “Everyone was so excited at how cool they looked. Kenzi was just stunning, and Joel had the coolest beard and tattoos on the island for sure.”
