Colourful Comic Book Themed Wedding with a Shit-Ton of Flowers!

Assassynation

August 1, 2018

It was super important to Drew and Emma to ensure that their wedding day reflected both their personalities, and that it was an explosion of colour! So they mashed together elements from their favourite superhero movies and comics and their love of bright and unusual flowers to create a day that was unashamedly them.

Emma wore a David Tutera x Mon Cheri dress with Irregular Choice shoes, and the bridesmaids wore Lindybop dresses with different coloured petticoats. The gents wore buttonholes made out of comic book flowers, and superhero tie pins. The mother of the groom even got involved with the theme and wore a Captain America themed fascinator!

The flowers were a real talking point – a festival of colour created by The Flower Bar, with stacks of hydrangea, roses, flamingo flowers and succulents creating a weird and wonderful vibe. The bridesmaids held simple different colour hydrangea poms and Emma had a quirky curved succulent bouquet.

The couple DIY’d a lot of the decor, including comic book bunting, superhero masks as favours, comic book spread table plan and Mr and Mrs comic book decoupage letters! This was one of Emma’s favourite parts of wedding prep – it meant they got to sit down and spend quality time together making things for their big day.

Sadly, Emma’s mum passed away when she was just 18, but they found a couple of sweet and subtle touches to ensure her memory was celebrated on the day. Emma cut a heart shape out of her mum’s wedding dress, and her seamstress bridesmaid sewed it onto her own dress so a part of her mum was with her all day. The couple also had two first dances – one for themselves, and a second where everyone got up to dance to Emma and her mums’ song You’re My First by Barry White.

When asked if there was any advice she would give future Rock n Roll brides, Emma said that aside from stepping back and taking time to really drink in everything that’s going on around you, trying to get a ‘proper’ photo of you with each one of your guests if something you’ll come to cherish in years to come. “We also maybe would have posed for photos taken on the receiving line instead of the hugging ones, as unfortunately we have lost a close friend since the wedding and wish we had a proper photo with them from that day.”
