Holly and Laura met on a dating website. Both very shy, it allowed them to get to know each other really well before they met and once they did they immediately hit it off. “The first time we met in real life was at Waterloo station and both of us were ridiculously early!” Holly laughed. “We went to an art exhibition at the Southbank Centre. From there we walked and talked down the Southbank to Borough before jumping on a tube to Soho where we had a few drinks and lots of laughs.”

They were married in August and the day was held at The Dickens Inn in London. “Both of us had a Catholic upbringing and would have loved nothing more than to get married in church but as this wasn’t possible we wanted somewhere a bit quirky”, they explained. “Laura’s friend went to a wedding at the Dickens Inn and raved about it so we went along and instantly fell in love with it. The room faces out over St Katharine’s Docks both ways so it was beautiful and it also has a barn-like structure which is something we had been after, it was also literally 30 seconds from the most amazing view of Tower Bridge.”

Both ladies got their dresses from Lola Bridal in Northampton. “Our good friends Lauren and Deborah own a bridal boutique in Northampton l and I wouldn’t have wanted us to go anywhere else to get our dresses”, said Holly. “Finding boutiques that sold plus size dresses was pretty difficult but once Lauren and Deborah started stocking them we both had the most amazing and magical experience with them. We both wore Irregular Choice shoes and had custom Converse which we personalised with ‘Bride 1’ and ‘Bride 2’ on them to change into later in the day.”

Their theme was board games and pastel colours, things both of the ladies love. The bridesmaids wore different coloured dresses from Chi Chi London and they had lots of homemade pastel decor and flowers. Each table was named after a board game, which also acted as the centrepieces.

“We both love board games and from the moment we started planning we wanted there to be a board game theme throughout but we also wanted a rainbow theme too. So we incorporated both together with each table being assigned both a colour and a game and having other little gamey and colour aspects throughout the venue.”

“We really wanted our day to be really personal and totally us. That’s why we had a board game theme and an unconventional menu (we served nachos for the stater and burgers for the main!) We loved making the flowers and the jars they came in, we loved making the favours and personalising everything! It was definitely unique because we put our names and faces on everything.”

“It’s hard to name just one favourite moment” they concluded, “but the biggest thing for both of us was just feeling so confident and so happy and realising at every moment how lucky we are to be so loved. The only bad thing about out wedding was that it’s now over. We have friends planning their weddings this year and we’re both a little jealous!”
