Summer brides take note! You are going to looooove Rachel and David’s amazing wedding which took place this May. They went down the DIY route for nearly everything and added personal touches wherever they could.

“Taking on a lot of DIY for your wedding can seem daunting and time consuming”, explained Rachel. “It also might end up stressing you out a little bit, but you should DEFINITELY try and get some bits in there that you have done yourself. You will feel so proud when you see everything set up with all those personal touches you spent time on,  and people DO notice. We had so many compliments on some of the little touches we put in on the day with our table numbers, cards and wishing tree.”

“We started off our planning by both knowing very specifically what we wanted with individual aspects”, she continued. “For example, I knew I wanted Sassy to photograph our day, and I knew I wanted to design my own dress. For David the most important thing was giving everyone a good meal.”

Their ceremony was held at The Church of the Epiphany in Austwick and their reception at The Traddock, a hotel surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. “We found the venue because of the awards it had won for the food originally, and then we completely fell in love with the village. One of my favorite things about our wedding was the location. The village was stunning with amazing countryside views, and the people were incredibly warm and welcoming.”

“We wanted to avoid too many formalities in our day, we didn’t want a set colour theme, which is why we ended up with many colours. We didn’t want a cake originally either. We only changed our minds about the cake because an old college friend of mine said she would like to do it for us, and because I found an amazing cake topper of two cats in party hats and I needed to find a way to include it!”

Rachel designed her own dress which she had dip dyed orange. She wore white Doc Martens, a brightly coloured flower crown and Vivienne Westwood jewellery. “I knew I wanted dip dye on my dress and decided on an orange.”, she wrote. “All my favourite colours are autumnal, but I was concerned they wouldn’t seem right in a late spring wedding. So I had the bridesmaids in different pastel shade colours to try and bring it back to being more seasonal. Our florist then did an amazing job tying in wild spring and early summer flowers and herbs with the bric & brac and textiles which resembled the warmer colours I love so much. The whole thing ended up being a sort of smash of colour, which felt very ‘us’ as it’s pretty much what our house is like.”
