  1. Amy Rowan

I’m going to carry an umbrella, because: our wedding is at the end of October and it will very likely rain, we’re planning to walk from the ceremony to the reception, I can use it again afterwards, I’d feel ridiculous carrying a bunch of flowers (or a bunch of anything else equally superfluous) just because I’m getting married, and I found a purple heart shaped one! http://www.fashionfinds.co.uk/product_images/2222.jpg
    I won’t be throwing it!!

  2. Amy that is SUCH a good idea, I love it! There is nothing I love more than something which looks amazing but is also practical!

  3. Dawn Jackson

I’m carrying a book page bouquet with little pearls on some of the pages. It’s going to be made from one of my all time favourite books, pride and prejudice. My bridesmaids are carrying Harry potter ones! I’m also currently crocheting 80 roses (43 roughly to go!) to use as centre piece flowers, they’ll be held in glass jars with lace around them. Hopefully it all turns out well!!

  4. Katy Darnbrough

I got the idea for a brooch bouquet as I don’t want flowers or anything traditional at my wedding (I’ll be wearing black as well). My colour scheme is purple, black, green and red. I’m still collecting as it will take quite a few to make the big bouquet I’m after but I am having so much fun hunting for them at car boots and scouring ebay. I can’t wait to start making it!

  5. Sarah

Just saw this and had a thought… you could use one of those pinwheels you find at all the seaside shops for a beach wedding!

  6. Nicole

Just making sure I’m not crazy…do those plastic dinosaurs look more like plastic cats to anyone.else or am I nuts?

  7. Sam

I’m having butterflies on wires as my bouquet and paper flowers, beads, brooches and buttons for my bridesmaids bouquets

  8. Katie Kurtz

I’m carrying one made out of mini movie reels and movie film. We are having a night at the movies themed wedding.

  9. Stacy

Our wedding is camp themed so I am carrying a bouquet of pine cones down the aisle! The guy’s boutonniere’s are also small pine cones!

  10. Laura

Am I the only one who thinks all these ideas are classless and trashy? I honestly thought this whole post was satire…

    Brides actually carry these monstrosities???!!!

    I’d DIE of embarrassment.

  11. Sarah

Probably not but I do think you’ll be the only one classless enough to bother commenting to say that. Each to their own and all that…

  12. michelle

Love them all, so unique. I carried clay orchid flowers, an artist on etsy made them along with the men’s boutoniers. My bridesmaids carried hand painted fans. All a Japanese theme wedding and it was beautiful. Who says you have to be traditional and just like every other wedding, be unique and original it’s YOUR day!

  13. lisa

I think Laura has stumbled onto the wrong website if she can’t find these ideas at the least interesting and at best beautiful and inspiring

  14. melanie

I don’t want to carry anything but some of these ideas are very tempting!! My one bridesmaid is going to carry flags of our hometowns (I may embellish her handful now after reading this post!) and my future husband and his bestman’s buttonholes I have made from old cable wires and feathers fashioned into little birds to go with our bird theme and because they are both sound technicians! Like someone else said, sod tradition, we love them = we’re having them.

  15. Love all these. Such great ideas. And loved seeing mine on here again, Kat! Thx 🙂
@Emily — I used both cats and dinosaurs on the bouquet (and tiny toy skateboards!), and used a painted lion toy on another one. It was quite a menagerie!

  16. jamie

I have to agree sarah…laura the irony in your post is laughable… you are the one that’s classless. You can have whatever you like at your own wedding and to comment on someone else’s dream is appalling. If you do not have anything nice to say I suggest you don’t comment at all. I’m sure you’ve hurt a lot of brides feelings here when planning their wedding should be the happiest time.

  17. Such an encouraging post Kat. A bride should be encouraged to feel confident in choosing a bouquet that they truly love, no matter how quirky. When I design http://www.FlottlesByLiberty.com bouquets for brides, they are actually carrying recreated plastic bottles on their wedding day…but that’s their little secret and they love it!

  18. Tanita

I carried sunflowers and baby’s breath, but my bridesmaids had baby’s breath and paper flowers made from sheet music and old book pages 🙂 my husband, his groomsmen and all our parents & grandparents had paper flower buttonholes 🙂

  19. Debbie

…you missed Sashy & Dashy’s Vivienne Westwood wedding bouquet off the list….I thought that was pretty amazing but then I made it! Xx

  20. Love it all!!!

I was torned between fabric, lace and Gypsophila bouquet and bouquet made from vintage brooches for my own wedding.

Sometimes, as brides we forget that a bouquet can be anything else other than flowers but this post really shows the infinite number of choices for brides willing and wanting to create their own mark. It really can be anything you WANT IT to be.

  21. I wanna use a mix of buttons, some plastic red roses and attach to it a lot of things that are part of me and my fiancee.. Since i’m a musician music sheets is a must, some music symbols i’ll make myself, swallows are part of our decoration and play as a symbol for our wedding, some guitars of course and family stuff 😀 I’m excited to create my bouquet 🙂

  22. I had a lovely project on over the last few weeks. I usually make flower crowns and hair accessories, but one of my clients loved a drawing i’d started in my sketchbook (more of a collation of random ideas) and wanted to see if it would work for her main bouquet.

The main flowers are a 5 white roses, and gypsophilia. Then I made flowers out of some of the materials provided by the btb (mainly the fabric, paper, buttons, brooches) and then it was decorated with lots of charms and meaningfull items such as feathers, shells, stones, gemstones, pinecones all collected from places the couple have travelled.
It has brooches from the grandmothers, and books from the grandfathers. The parents have donated material and buttons – they are a crafty lot this family – her mum’s fabric collection is to die for!

I did a seperate plain flower one to throw.

Each of the bridesmaids got a little miniture, single rose and gyps bouquet with a bracelet charm wound into the bouquet. At the reception they each got the bracelet and another charm to match the one in their bouquet, so they had something from the ceremony to keep and remember the day by. 🙂

I’ll see if I can dig out the pictures of them 🙂

  23. Some amazing bouquets here – how strange – I’m thinking back to say which one I like the best and it’s the Rockabilly bride just carrying the balloons! sometimes simplicty is best and if I carried the cupcake one it would be half eaten by the time I got to the alter – yum 🙂

  24. Ooo… loving the felt flowers, balloons, and brooch bouquet (seen that idea around more lately and I think it could be pretty cool)! I’m a little partial to bunches of balloons… hmm… future ideas churning! 🙂

  25. Amazing dresses bouquets here – how strange – I’m thinking back to say which one I like the best and it’s the Rockabilly bride just carrying the balloons!

  26. Vicky

I am getting married in the middle of summer in the desert so we are not having any flowers. I’ve decided on a balloon bouquet and while I’m getting mixed opinions I don’t care! I love the idea and so does my fiancé so that is all that matters

  27. Deena

There are sooo many great ideas here! I love Sarah’s idea of pinwheels & Julianna’s idea for lollipops! The cupcake idea is fabulous for my son’s girlfriend, though she would probably end up at the alter covered in crumbs & smeared with icing! And for all those naysayers out there, I’m a mom looking for ideas for my daughter’s wedding & who really wants all that traditional stuff anyway? A wedding should be fun! And thanks RockNRoll Bride for this creative article!

  28. laura wentzell

does anyone know someone that would be able to make a bouquet out of camera film reels – my daughter is a photographer and think this would be a very unusual idea

  29. Tammy Epperly

For those unable to have (or want) real flowers, these are great alternatives. You never know if one of your guests might be allergic to a certain flower. I happen to know that one of my guests is highly allergic to roses. I love the umbrella or parisol idea. I’m getting married outside in August in a very small, very informal ceremony, so that would be great for my bridesmaids. I, also, love the brooches.

  30. Sharon Mason

I love them all! I love the feather fan, balloons, cat toys and cupcakes best! I was going to carry a beautiful vintage clutch but now you’ve got me thinking… ;)x

  31. Sarah

Me and my bridesmaids had button bouquets, mums had button corsages and hubby, best man and dads had button button holes! Loved the idea more than flowers and we get to keep them forever! 🙂

  32. Karen

I’m getting married in Ibiza in June next year and have been thinking about making some sort of bouquet with shells

  33. Oh…just WoW!
That seems so beautiful and long lasting that real flowers. Don’t have to worry about getting them shrivel.

  34. Maria-Louise

    So many great ideas! 🙂
But am I the only one who see cats and not dinasours i number 19? 😉

  35. Claire

I had a huge bunch of eucalyptus and everyone else had a glass of wine as their bouquet. It was perfect.

  36. Alexandra

You forgot shells. I got married on a beach in Devon so collected shells, fake pearls etc and made mine from these x
