Thursday Treats: Thank You

ps babes (259)

Made U Look

This week has been hard, one of the most emotionally draining I’ve had in a long time. I’ve cried a lot, I’ve stared at my computer screen not knowing what to do, I’ve told people I love them more than I ever have before.

Thank you all so much for your outpouring of support. It’s been very much appreciated. I’ve had so many amazing messages and I’ll be passing them on to Chris and Jo’s family in due course. For those of you also suffering I applaud you for being so brave to reach out to me, via public comments or private email. It really is the first step to recovery and I’m so proud of you for vocalising your desire to get help.

It’s been a lot to take in, but ultimately it’s been so worth it. I’m sending you all so much love. Thank you, thank you x a million.

I’m about to head off on a family holiday to Whistler so I’ll be taking some much needed time away from the internet. There won’t be a Thursday Treats next week but I have some great content scheduled to go up in my absence so be sure to keep popping by.

Thursday Treats: Uneventful, and that’s OK

Shoes from Melissa, Dress from Next

This week, hum, what can I say? It’s really been pretty uneventful. I’ve basically been catching up with emails (oh so many emails!), writing and making Blogcademy-related world takeover plans… all from the comfort of my sweat pants.

Yep, it’s true, being a full time blogger/ writer/ entrepreneur/ business owner (whatever the hell you want to call it!) really isn’t that glam most of the time. But that’s perfectly OK with me. I actually quite like weeks like this where there’s no pressure, and I have no external commitments other that just plodding along, doing my own thing and working at my own pace. When your life is such a rollercoaster most of the time it really is awesome to not need to leave the house for a week!

Thursday Treats: Well, That Was Eventful…

adventure

I am writing this post while sat cross-legged on the floor in LAX airport. To say my journey home from Palm Springs has been tumultuous is literally the understatement of the millennium. Two cancelled flights, two missed connections, two very expensive flight changes, two unexpected nights in a random (but actually very lovely) hotel, three lost pieces of luggage and two very weary travellers and we’re still trying to get back to Blighty!

My travel companion, Richard, and I have been battered about from pillar to post. I’m not usually one to name and shame but for goodness sakes never fly with United Airlines. They have royally screwed us… twice. Literally the worst airline and customer service I have ever experienced…

However I’ve been trying my best to keep things positive, despite having to wear the same underwear for four days in a row!  We had a 15 hour layover in LA today which meant we were able to get out of the airport (and into some fresh air) and went to hang out with Shauna who just happened to be here! She took us out for delicious food, found us a store to buy new pants (!) and generally cheered us up no end. I love you Nubbles!

At least all these delays have meant one thing – plenty of time for scouring the interwebz for Thursday Treats… I’m always keeping things positive baby!

I found my ridiculous sunglasses in a random design shop in Palm Springs. They were only $19 and I am obsessed… do you reckon I can get away with them in Reading?! Very Mrs Wonka don’t ya think?

Thursday Treats: Palm Springs or Bust

ruche3

Ruche

Ahhh! I leave for Palm Springs on Monday and I am SO EXCITED. I don’t mean to rub it in or anything but it’s currently topping out at 30 degrees over there and I for one can’t wait to get my bootie in some sunshine. I wish I was just there to lounge by the pool but there is a slight work element involved, all of which will be revealed in due course (jeez, what a tease).

Don’t forget you can also join us (virtually!) for a FREE online party on Sunday 9th February at 11am PST/ 2pm EST/ 7pm GMT! Remember to get those blogging or business questions in to us and we’ll do our best to answer as many as physically possible.

I’ll see you there!

Thursday Treats: Is It Time For Some Sunshine Yet?

palm springs

I don’t know about you but I sure am ready for spring. This freezing cold weather can quite frankly do one. In fact I’ve pretty much been hibernating this week month and not leaving the centrally heated cocoon that is our house unless absolutely necessary…

However, it was necessary to venture in to town on Tuesday because I’m in dire need of some new clobber for my trip to Palm Springs next month. I lucked out with two beauties from Ted Baker, the vernal pattern on this dress and skirt instantly makes me feel better.

The main reason for my trip to the Californian desert is to hang out with Gala and Shauna (it’s been too long) and work on some projects and plans for Blogcademy 2014. We’ve also decided to do a FREE live broadcast while we’re there, on Sunday 9th February at 11am PST/ 2pm EST/ 7pm GMT!

During the livestream we’ll be answering all your burning blogging and business questions. You can either submit them beforehand by emailing us, or simply ask them live as we go along. Sign up here to join us.

Bring on the sunshine, I can’t bloody wait!

Thursday Treats: Getting Honest with Myself

ice-cream-series-by-jonathon-kambouris

Jonathon Kambouris

I had to give myself a bit of a talking to this week. I’ve been ignoring how I’ve been treating my body for months now. In fact I have a bit of a love/ hate relationship with it. I love making a stand against the media bullshit about weight loss, body image, body shaming (whatever size you are) and all those disgusting advertisements for unhealthy weight loss methods. But at the same time I’ve been lying… to myself.

I’ve shouted that I don’t care about losing weight but it’s something I’ve battled with since I was 14. I struggled with an eating disorder for over 10 years and when you’re that obsessed with something I don’t think it ever completely leaves you, even if you’re certified as ‘better’.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t ever want to get back there but I do need to make some changes. I need to make better choices. I know I’ve been abusing my body with too much alcohol and food that isn’t good for me. I know I’ve been crashing on the sofa most nights, sinking a bottle of wine and eating whatever processed crap is readily available in the cupboard.

So this week Gareth and I both started to pay more attention to what we’re putting into our bodies. We’ve been eating more lean protein and veg than anything else. If I lose some weight, than great, but that’s not really what it’s about. More importantly, I want to nourish my body. I want to feel good, not groggy, in the mornings and I don’t want to automatically reach for the Pinot Grigio at 6 pm.

Let’s do this!
