Happy Birthday… To Me!

kat 2

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of workshops, fabulously cheap vintage shopping (Portland, I love you) delicious healthy eats (California does this right) and DISNEYLAND! The Haunted Mansion was as wonderful as expected and Captain EO was 80s flashback-tastic.

I’ve also been obsessing over rainbow instax, green juice (no, really!) and the Museum of Death which Gala & I wondered around one sunny afternoon. But more on all this when I’m back in the – I hear still snowy – UK. Today I’m just stopping by to say “YEEEY, it’s my birthday!”

I’m officially creeping too close to 30 for my liking, turning 29 today. But fret not, I’ve been celebrating in a characteristically immature fashion with the trip to the happiest place on Earth, a photo booth at The Blogcademy and… well we’ll let’s see what delights Gala & Shauna have planned I guess!

It’s weird spending your birthday away from home. I miss Gareth and my kitties terribly, but at least it means I get double celebrations when I return next week… right?! I head back to England on Tuesday. I’m sad to leave my girls and the sunshine of the west coast but can’t wait to hug my little family for about 25 minutes straight.

Yours sunburntly

PS Thanks to the Made U Look babes for the epic photo shoot sneak peek. I literally can’t put into words how much I love the shots I’ve seen so far. We took photos around Shauna’s neighbourhood in Portland and the one at the top of this post was taken in front of Minnie Mouse’s house in Toon Town of course! More coming soon!

Here I go Again On my Own…

Bright and early tomorrow morning I’m grabbing my hot pink suitcases and hitting the road for the first stop on The Blogcademy World Tour. I’ve actually never flown long-haul solo before so I’m excited but also a little bit nervous about the whole thing. I have complete faith in Virgin Atlantic to get me there in one piece though, don’t let me down Richard!

Listening this LOUDLY today to get in the mood

But this ain’t no holiday – oh no siree bob! My first port of call is the live online Q&A which will be broadcast from Nubby Twiglet HQ on Wednesday 27th at 1pm PST / 4pm EST / 8PM GMT. If you’d like to be a part of it, it’s easy! Simply buy your ticket (for the utter bargain price of $7) right now and then either tune in live or watch the recording of the session at your leisure. The livestream is the perfect introduction to The Blogcademy and so if you’re not sure if the full workshop is for you, why not grill us first? The session will be 100% directed by YOU so don’t forget to ask us those blogging or business questions that have been plaguing you. You can do so by emailing them to headmisstresses@theblogcademy.com or tweeting us in advance.

Honoured…

littlePortrait

I was so incredible honoured when blog reader Cécile sent me this drawing that she’d done of Gareth & me. As photographer Christine who took the original photograph said when I showed it to her, “It takes me straight back to that moment! It makes my heart smile so much! Wow such a talent that Cécile is”.

Thank you Cécile for the beautiful gift. You can see more of her gorgeous work via her own website La Belette Rose.

Remember How I Published a Magazine?

RocknRollBride_Issue2_0

I’m sure most of you will already know this, but last Summer we published issue two of our print magazine. Since then, and every day with out fail, my poor suffering Gareth has been packing and shipping each copy that’s been ordered – by hand. There’s no fancy behind the scenes action in our operation believe you me. He’s become quite the regular feature in our local post office. I wonder if they take bets about what he’s sending out in those shiny pink envelopes with such regularity.

Other blogs may do online magazines, but we go at it proper old skool style. Sure, it’s more work (and a lot more expensive to produce) but even in this hyper-digital age, there’s something so special about getting a crisp print edition through your letterbox.

London Calling!

I am SO EXCITED because Gala & Shauna fly into London this week. It seems like just a few short weeks ago we we’re all together in New York – this trip has come around so so quickly!

The agenda? Two very nearly sold out – we have ONE space left! – Blogcademy classes, talking about how to be famous online at The Photography Farm (tickets for this talk are only £100 if you want to come along) and four sure-to-be slightly chaotic days in Paris! Throw into the mix a little shopping (OK a lot of shopping), plenty of gallivanting around seeing the sights and oodles & oodles of giggles, self portraits and sparkly ear madness. Be sure to follow us all (Kat, GalaShauna) on Instagram if you want to be a part of it!

I LITERALLY CANNOT WAIT.

Newly Engaged? Start Here!

Congratulations you’re engaged! If you’re new around these parts I’d like to say hi and to let you know how excited I am to meet you. This is going to be one of the most awesome/stressful/exciting/fulfilling/hair-tearing (delete as appropriate) rides of your life and I for one can’t wait for you to get started! In fact I loved planning my wedding so much that I made it into my career. Gareth & I were married in April 2008. I started this blog to document the journey and I haven’t stopped since!

I’m Kat by the way… I guess I should have said that first. This is me…

And for some reason I pull that face a lot in photos.

So right now you’re probably feeling a little overwhelmed and still quite shell-shocked about the whole ‘crap I’ve got to plan an actual wedding’ thing. I’d also imagine that you probably have no idea where to start. Well the very fabulous Veronica Dearly (she makes awesome wedding stationery) created this extra-ordinarily helpful introduction to planning a wedding and she’s kindly let me share it with you all…
