Anna & Ian’s Urban London Wedding

As soon as photographer Eliza Claire told me that she had a bride wearing a Vivienne Westwood wedding dress I was excited. So excited.  Anyone that knows me will know that I’m a bit of a Vivienne obsessive so I really couldn’t wait to see the wedding of the bride who was rad enough to rock it out!

Anna & Ian were married in February in London. Eliza tells us all about the day, “Anna & Ian got married at the start of London Fashion Week. So it was only right that Anna picked an amazing British Designer – Vivienne Westwood –  dress to wear.  I think you know already how excited I was about Anna & Ian’s London Wedding. Anna got ready at her gorgeous Mews home in Hackney, before heading to St Etheldreda’s, Hatton Garden for their beautiful wedding ceremony. Anna wore Vivienne Westwood’s Lily gown and had flowers from Rebel Rebel in London.”

“Anna’s best friend and bridesmaid, Poppy, was so poorly on the day of the wedding but held up like a trooper, and looked gorgeous despite feeling awful, in her very stylish black bridesmaid’s dress.”

“We stopped off at Smithfield’s Market and at Soho Square on the way to the reception venue, The Union Club in Soho, where they treated their guests to a fantastic tasty meal, before enjoying The Paul James Band‘s fantastic music into the early hours.”

Sarah & Barrett’s Glamorous Pin Up Inspired Wedding

Sarah’s bridal shoot was super kick ass so I’m more than a little excited to be sharing her wedding today too. She married Barrett at Barr Mansion, Austin. She explained, “As for location, as I said several times, I didn’t want to be in the middle of a field with a bunch of grass and trees because that just isn’t me!  I love cities and urban living and wanted my photos to reflect my love for those quirky little places you find around Austin.”

“I loved the recycling plant idea with those huge piles of twisted metal!  My inspiration for my entire wedding look just came from my love for pin up girl looks along with the very intense desire to not look at my wedding photos in 20 years and say “Oh my gosh!  What was I thinking wearing that ______ (insert crazy, over trendy item here)!” I truly wanted a look that was me, just prettier!”

Sarah wore a Pronovias gown with flat Irregular Choice shoes (my kinda gal!) and made her own bouquet from jewellery. “ My necklace was actually found at one of those crazy bridal extravaganzas from Stella Dot.  Saw it there, tried it on, and decided within 5 minutes that it was THE necklace! My shoes were none other than Irregular Choice!  Love them!  I really wanted something fun, quirky, and comfortable…and flat, as Barrett is only about an inch taller than me!”

Sally & Vyv’s Stylish London Wedding

Sally & Vyv’s stylish London wedding took place in November. The ceremony at Islington Town Hall was followed by a party at 06 St Chad’s, Kings Cross.

Sally told me all about their day, “My dress was from a vintage fair at Chelsea Town Hall, I don’t know the designer/era but I was talking to a fab lady who runs a vintage shop in Camden Passage and she thought it might be late 50s.  I didn’t plan yellow but wanted a bright colour and when I saw it I knew it was what I was looking for.  I got it altered by The Lady That Does who is as much fun as she is talented, I spent a good few evenings laughing over cups of tea at her house with her partner – they are both very into their vintage and run swing nights in Walthamstow, but that’s another story… oh yes and he runs dance classes!  I almost forgot that I was there to get the dress pinned they were so much fun!  Shoes were unimaginatively from Topshop.”

“We chose Islington Town Hall as it’s our local registry office and we have been to both official meetings in the council chamber as well as another wedding!  6 St Chad’s came well recommended from 3 friends,  for food, cost and sound system. The first DJ was Paolo Zerbini, Vyv’s brother in law who flew over from Parma, Italy to play a selection of northern soul from his impeccable collection.  Vyv’s friend Stu followed with his characteristic floor fillers and the last couple of hours were covered by Vyv’s friend Ed who made sure no-one stopped dancing until the every end.”

“Our table decorations were crafted by my Mum and brother the day before and tables were named after hills/mountains Vyv and I have climbed together.  The bunting I sent out by post to guests and they decorated them and posted them back in time for me to staple them together.”

“The most important consideration was to make sure it was a relaxed day, so we didn’t want it to be too big and we tried not to over plan.  We dispensed with tradition of just the men doing speeches and let Mums, Dad’s and close friends all say a few words as well as both the groom and the bride! I think what really made it great was having our backpacks behind the bar and changing at the end of the night, to be driven off to the airport with all the guests waving us off!”

Hitchfest 2010 – Bowie Bride & The Rock n Roll Wedding of the Year!

In the words of the lady herself, I am so titstastically excited to share Britt & Mike’s wedding with you today. I have literally been on the edge of my seat since July in eager anticipation of seeing their wedding photographs. Most of you will already know Britt, the kick ass, controversial and Rock n Roll heavy-weight behind the the Bowie Bride blog. Words really can’t express how awesome this chick is and how much I totally adore her and her killer blog.

As you can well imagine I nearly fell on the floor with excitement when Britt asked if I’d like to be the blog to share her wedding. Like she even had to ask!?

The couple were married at BOXeight Studios, a photography studio in downtown Los Angeles…and their got the subway there. Hell yes! No unnecessarily expensive wedding transport for these two! They were adamant that their wedding would be a reflection of them and would be filled with everything they love. Britt explained, “There was no way my husband and I were going to plan a one-day celebration for 365 days straight and spend 12.5K just to throw a wedding that didn’t exude “us.”  We wanted an urban/gritty/downtown/loft vibe. Something our guests could take the subway to. Something that promoted hardcore loving and hardcore boozing.”

“We wanted to showcase food that was unique to LA, so we chose Korean/Mexican fusion tacos that were served off a truck. (LA is famous for their food trucks).  Overall, we focused on traditions that made sense to us as a couple, and ignored the traditions that didn’t.  So once we got over the whole, “Do we really need to include this expensive and/or dated tradition that we could honestly care less about” aspect of it all, planning a wedding that exuded “us” became pretty easy. We reused a ton of materials for the DIY decor — most of which we found buried in our closets, or in our recycling bins… Like CD cases, corks, sheet music, bottles, vases, buttons, etc. You name it, we probably tried to reuse it for our wedding decor.”

Paper People

Jesse & Susan’s minimalist, stark paper & industrial themed engagement shoot makes me heart go a-flutter. Mainly because it’s so different to anything I’ve seen before. It’s almost avant garde in it’s simplistic randomness and I just adore it.

“The paper people was something I had wanted to do for a really long time” photographer & creative genius Duston Todd told me. ”It just took the right couple and timing. Luckily Susan is an award winning designer, made her own vintage wedding dress and was able to put her talents to good use and help create the life sized paper outfits. We started out stiff and clean with the paper, then the couple suggested to rough it up and have fun – and I feel that is where some of the best work came out.”

“As for the industrial bit, I always encourage the couple to make the sessions about them. After all, the shoot is about them, it’s their images that they’ll be hanging on their walls of their home. So I always ask a couple to give me a direction they want to take it. A collaborative effort of sorts, once I get the direction they want to take it – I’ll run with it. In this case they wanted industrial. They had brought along vintage clothes to kick it off and I found some Salt Lake gems for the setting.”
