Pinterest has a lot to answer for. I’ve spent many an hour gushing over my ‘Pinterest house’ whilst ignoring the pile of washing up/my extensive floordrobe/the DIY jobs in my ‘real-life house’. Well haven’t we all?

A little word of warning, if you’ve been trying to curb your additction I’m afraid today’s spotlight post isn’t going to help you on your road to recovery AT ALL (sorry about that).

I’ve just been introduced to the work of Swedish design company Mateus. These cereamics and table top treats would be perfect in my Pinterest house. Let me illustrate…

Scrummy.

Mateus ceramics are all about feelings,” designer Teresa Lundahl, who started the company in 1993 explains. “A design that creates added warmth to the home. A material that stimulates the senses and communicates the feeling of authentic craftsmanship. Mateus is all about the meeting between modern Swedish design and traditional Portuguese craftsmanship.”

My feeling? I want. I want it all.

Launched in 2004, Girls of Elegance are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of affordable bridesmaid dresses, wedding shoes and bridal accessories. After trading solely online for the past 8 years, in August last year they launched their first dedicated wedding shoe showroom in Dorset, and this February will see them taking Charlotte Balbier wedding gowns into their boutique.

Girls of Elegance pride themselves in the extensive range for bridesmaids, including dresses of all shapes and colours - all for under £100! My favourite has got to be this adorable polkadot dress which comes in at amazing £74.99 and is available in 6 colours. I love it so much in fact that I just nabbed it myself in the mint colour! I love the look of bridesmaids in the same dress but different colours, and wouldn’t this one just be perfect for a country garden themed wedding?

FYI the stock on this particular dress is limited so buy now to avoid missing out!

Today I’d like to introduce you to the work of Mick Shah of Miki Photography. Not just becuase I think he’s a kick ass wedding photographer but becuase he’s offering all readers of Rock n Roll bride a whopping 35% off all his wedding packages! He says, “One of my aims for 2012 is to work with more ‘like minded’ clients, and in the past, in my view, that’s always been blog readers – and mainly Rock n Roll Bride blog readers! I know finances are an issue for some right now and I also know a lot of creative couples work within creative budgets so wanted to make my packages more accessible. I’d rather do more weddings at a lower price but that are a blast and creative than fewer at a higher price but are to put it politely ‘a bit too formal’ or I’ve been hired because ‘you have to have a photographer’.”

To qualify for this amazing offer, simply drop Mick and email quoting ‘Rock n Roll Bride’.

Now let’s learn a little more about the man himself…

Hey Mick, can you tell us who you are and a little bit about yourself?

I was a full-time musician for 5 years and loved it but felt that time in my life was coming to an end. Around the same time my wife got pregnant and just kept nagging me to get a camera for when the baby was born. I was so insistent it was a waste of money and I could do just the same on my iphone (ha!) In the end she literally dragged me to the camera shop and we bought a camera. I figured I wanted a hobby that I meant I didn’t need to travel (ha again!) so started practicing.

Naturally all my mates were musicians and they all needed ‘promo’ shots, live band shots etc so I started practicing on them and loved it.  But then my son was born and I started capturing him and my wife interacting with him, and it was amazing – there was something about the connection that was so powerful and gave much more meaning to the image.  Then the manager of a singer I had done some work for was getting married. Since I had never done a wedding before and he had a pro photographer booked already, I asked if, just for a laugh, I could tag along.  It was at that wedding where it kind of all came together and I had that ‘eureka’ moment!

It’s difficult to explain but there was all the ‘buzz’ of doing a live gig coupled with the emotional connection of the bride and groom and all their family similar to that connection of my wife and son.  Capturing all of that just made sense creatively.  When the photos came back the response I got was amazing and from that I got my first wedding ‘booking’ and then more referrals etc and the rest is history! I now shoot mainly weddings mainly anywhere in the UK.

What is the ethos and idea behind your business?

My three ‘keywords’ to describe my business or type of wedding photography are ‘love’ ‘fun’ and ‘style’.

‘Love’ because at the end of the day that’s what a wedding is about, two people who love each other enough to say that they want to spend the rest of the lives together.

‘Fun’ because whether you’re a traditional, quirky or Rock n Roll bride or groom, you should just be yourselves and just have fun doing it.  On the engagement shoot at the beginning it’s usually mostly the guys who are more wary and the immortal line, ‘…I don’t like having my picture taken…’ nearly always comes out, but I try and get them to have a laugh and by end of it they’re the ones suggesting the shots. That’s great cause on the wedding day I feel more like one of their friends at the wedding taking pictures rather than a complete stranger.

Glasgow based photographer Neil Douglas of And Do You Take Photography prides himself on his composition and use of light. In fact he cites his main inspiration as Martin Parr, a social photographer, who is well known for his exaggerated style. “I love the way he uses colour and composition to really bring out the personality of his subjects,” Neil writes, “Henri Cartier Bresson is also massive influence for me – his candid photography really paved the way for us who favour a reportage style.”

“I picked up my first camera in my teens, and from then on it’s never really left my side,” Neil continues. “I combined my love of music and photography by running around gigs in skinny jeans shooting bands which was lots and lots of fun. It soon became apparent that it wasn’t really about the music, I was more interested in capturing ‘people’ and the human element so when I was asked to be a second shooter for a wedding tog friend I jumped at the chance.  And I never looked back.  I truly believe that great photography equals great art. It’s emotive, immediate and perhaps most importantly, accessible.”

“I’d describe my photography as fun, creative and a little bit unusual. I love strong composition, framing and really interacting the couple with their surroundings. I’d say its timeless, which means in 20 years it will remain just as striking, without being dated.”

“I think it’s fair to say that any couple in love make my job fantastic, but it’s always good to meet clients that are willing to try something a little bit different and move away from ‘traditional’ style posed photography. I love couples who come with their own idea’s too – it really does make the finished collection of pictures a true partnership between those in front of the camera and behind. I guess having a similar sense of humour helps, especially for those times when I’m asking the bride and groom to climb trees and lay on disused railway tracks!”
