My last wedding from Bob Miller (for now! – if you missed them here’s one and two) is the gorgeous relaxed but energetic wedding of Beverly & Neil.

Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham AL (apparently one of the most haunted places in the US!) was suggested to the pair by their friend and eventual wedding coordinator, Sarah Crawford.  After visiting Sloss, they both agreed this location would provide the unique, relaxed, and energetic atmosphere they wanted.  Working within a very limited budget, they felt that choosing an unconventional location would allow them to bypass some of the traditional wedding etiquette.  “The location also said a lot about our interests” the groom told me. ” I’m an Architect (student) and Beverly is a Graphic Designer.  The soaring smokestacks and steel columns and beams (all decades old) provided an amazing setting.  In addition, much of Sloss consists of beautiful greenery sprouting out of the old steel in various spots.”

Jennifer & Ian’s vintage garden engagement shoot is just so British – I love it! The slightly damp weather, the funky patterned wellies, the wheelbarrow and the greenhouse… I’m very much looking forward to seeing this couple’s vintage themed Scottish wedding in May and I hope photographer Fjona will be sending the images straight over to me afterwards – think VW van, Scottish tablet in jam jars, old fashioned luggage labels and more wellies. It’s going to be awesome I’m sure!

You are going to explode with excitement over this incredible bridal shoot…I did! Just brace yourselves for some serious awesome.

The shoot was put together by Denver based This Modern Life Photo to inspire brides to think outside the box with their bridal shoots…and boy have they done that!? The team were keen to tell me all about their vision:

“Brides, we can create a custom styled shoot like this one for you and your fiance or husband either before or after the wedding using the same creative team. Not into Rock and Roll styling? Not a problem. Our team will  work with you to create your very own vision, romantic and dreamy?, vintagey and funky?, rustic natural? Whatever your heart desires, this creative team can create!”

This fun all day trash the dress shoot was sent over by UK photographer Natasha Hurley. I really love seeing the evolution of time throughout these images – from the early morning light in the garden shots, to the late afternoon sun in the graffiti shots and the evening time darkness with the contrast of the artifical lights in the final urban images. Quite apart from that, the bride Miranda looks like she’s having a ball and I love love love her heart shaped pink sunglasses.

“My thought process was for the shoot to have a slightly magical quality with a modern twist” Natasha told me ”It came about after I bought a shockingly bright pink handheld mirror with baroque patterning around it….In the end the mirror only made it in one of the shots (the silhouette of Miranda looking at the mirror), but it was a great starting point I guess. The photos are a mixture of posed shots and those “in between” moments which I love to capture – in this photoshoot they are mainly of Miranda cracking up laughing as passers-by shouted “congratulations” to her!”

There’s a little bit of a story behind the finding of this fabulous shoot and I thought in sharing it’s gorgeousness I could also explain how it came to land in my inbox.

As many of you know, my husband Gareth is an IT wizz and works from home. As sad as it may be, we love to watch Working Lunch together when I’m not at ‘the day job’. One such afternoon there was a feature on Emma Jones of Enterprise Nation who works with 5-9 ers – ie people who are mad like me, work a full time job and run their own business from home too. So Gareth turns to me and says “You should drop her an email” and so I did.  Making this connection has been fabulous for me as not only have I been featured on her site, am being used a case study in her upcoming book (hell to the yeah!) but she sends me regular updates on awesome other 5-9 ers that she thinks I need to know.  LeKeux Events was one of these companies. As soon as I landed on their website I knew we’d be a perfect match and after speaking to Lyndsey over email it turned out that she already reads my blog!
