I put a shout out on my Facebook page to ask if any of you we’re struggling with anything wedding planning-wise and if I could help. A couple of you mentioned wedding traditions, namely how to decide which to include and which to scrap altogether. I have a few ideas on the subject…

Remember, it’s your wedding

There is a recurring theme throughout nearly all of the weddings I feature – that the couples wanted to have a wedding that was a true reflection of themselves…their likes and dislikes, their relationship, their personal style, their life influences. I believe that deciding which wedding traditions to include or ignore should also be totally dependent on you and what you value as being important to your wedding day.

Make a list, check it twice…

I’m a huge fan of the list. If ever my mind is going crazy about something I always physically write my thoughts down in a notebook. This really helps me to de-clutter my head and think things through properly without screaming “AHHHH I CAN’T COPE!”

I encourage you to give this a go if you’re struggling to make wedding decisions. Try writing down the traditions you’re struggling with and making a pro/con arguement for each section. Talk about it with your fiance and decide together if you want to have them in your wedding or not and why.

Allison & Gabe’s wedding day started like every other – excitable, elegant, stylish and full of lurrrrve – then night fell and the chaos and fun of rock star proportions ensued! I love how the couple’s attire matches their mood – beginning of the day – excited, demure and classy (I adore Allison’s simple dress which she got on sale in Bloomingdale’s),  end of the night - ruffled and rocking the hell out (and again I adore Allison’s dress – which she actually made herself – she bought a basic tutu from Etsy but the rest was all her own work!) In fact it wasn’t just the bride who changed - the whole wedding party got changed (the women from pastels into black ruffles – again make by the bride from tutu’s found on Etsy – and the men into dinner suits) for the massive party at the end of the night!

One thing you can always count on in England is the rain…it will always come when you don’t want it too. In some circles rain on your wedding day is considered the worst thing that could ever happen but it others it is seen to be a sign on good luck and prosperity for the marriage to come. I am likely to think myself that neither her of these are true and as long as you still get some damn good photographs it’s all good. Plus as soon as I saw the shot with the rainbow I was sold on the whole rainy-day photo shoot idea!

Asian weddings are full of tradition, colour (the Bride traditionally wears red) and are always an absolutely massive party (I have a friend at work who got married a few months after us and she had about 350 people at her wedding!) They also go on for about a week, with all the celebrations climaxing with a ceremony that lasts for many hours.

Thanks to Craig & Chanelle Segerius Bruce for sharing..and I am very excited because I am actually doing a photo shoot with the guys tomorrow!
