Roisin & Paul’s Somerset wedding makes me ache for those long Summer days again. The Apple Orchard at Brook Farm played host to their August nuptials – a celebration of love, life and all things good. The couple opted for a humanist ceremony led by Alison Orchard, “She was so crucial to the success of the ceremony, which was such an emotional and wonderful experience,” the bride told me. “I think lots of people thought it might have a been a hippy-dippy, tree-hugging, fingers down-your-throat service, but instead found it was a lovely and romantic experience. We wrote our vows and kept them quite similar to the traditional ones. We sang, ‘A little Help from My Freinds’ by the Beatles and I cried all the way through it.”

After the moving ceremony, came cocktails and games on the lawn and in the marquees hired from Abbas Marquees, “This was very much a DIY wedding,” Roisin continued. “All of my friends and family got involved which made it a lovely and personal wedding, along with being quite a lot cheaper. We picked stones from the beach for name places and brought ‘Brighton rock’ as favours. I also made lots of little clay hearts.”

“Our theme was, ‘Festival’ which was fitting as the site of the farm is less than a mile from the Glastonbury Festival site. My bridesmaids and the Best Man were incredible. It was quite an organizational feat and they took it totally on board. In fact we had a ‘hand-over’ on the Thursday evening. They then became in-charge and only came to me if they really needed to. This made me be able to really enjoy the day and not worry about all the details that had been prepared.”

“My sister organsied games in the field of ‘Welly Wanging’ and ‘scissors, paper stone’. It was one of the highlights of the wedding! It was a really relaxed affair, full of love, romance and fun. People dressed how they wanted to and children were very much allowed to run around and have loads of fun. At my hen-do, the girls hired a hoola hooping instructor and we learnt a routine that we performed at the wedding. Everyone loved playing with the hoola hoops and it added to the festival feel.”

“My favourite ‘home-made’ bits were the clay hearts that we made and put in the orchard. We just bought heart shaped biscuit cutters, rolled out the clay and hung them from the trees using ribbon. It made the ceremony feel so magical.”

Architects Sybil & Jon planned an outdoors, Robin Hood style wedding – complete with campfire, archery and tents – at the bride’s parent’s house, for July 30th this year. Jon explained that they wanted the ‘feel’ of the wedding to be similar to the scene in the woods from the original film of Robin Hood.  They wanted everything to be relaxed and very informal and so had tractors as their transport, a folk band and a rustic, natural style of flowers. “Sibyl was very keen to use English flowers and wanted them to look like they had been picked from the garden.” their wedding planner, Kate told me. “ Anne Bell sourced the flowers from a walled garden in Hertfordshireand created beautiful colourful arrangements in jars on each of the tables along withbouquets for Sibyl and her bridesmaids.  The church was decorated witha stunning candle stick display and pew end arrangements tied with raffia.  As an added touch the couple also quickly decorated the tractor!”

Sybil wore a dress that had originally belonged to her Grandmother and that her Mother had actually worn for her wedding as well. It was a ‘day dress’ which was made from embroidered linen that she brought in Jamaica when she lived there in 1948. The bride’s mother then altered the dress into a top and skirt and wore it on her wedding day in 1973. The bride’s mother then altered the dress again with a slightly different mid-drift section for Sibyl to wear. Sybil teamed this very special gown with a Jenny Packham headpiece and sandals by Charlotte Olympia, in Lois leopard print. She also wore an antique watch which her Mother had given her as a gift as which had also belonged to her Grandmother.

Prettiness

My mind is a-whirring with reflections of 2009, my plans for 2010 and where the Rock n Roll Bride train might take me (read: us – you’re coming on that trip with me, right?) but fret not, I am still here sharing the prettiness I know you all adore until I come up with my masterplan…just hang tight.

Cassie & Bryce are cuteness. That is all.

This sounds like a wedding I am going to love! The wedding will be taking place in July (eek, so soon) and the couple have planned to do everything themselves from from making the decorations, Jenn’s veil and even baking their own cakes – proper DIY!  The theme they are going with will be based on “vintage vacation”, with a western cowboy twist..I can’t wait!

Jenn is also a photographer herself, so be sure to check out her blog & etsy site too!

I got a lovely email from Jeremy Lawson thanking me for featuring his super-cool ‘I want to lick your face’ photograph and telling me to feel free to use anymore of his work…so I’m gonna!
I couldn’t choose just one wedding as he seems to be a very lucky photographer indeed and gets a wealth of amazingly cool and rock n roll couples to shoot, therefore stand by for the first post of many – first up Dan and Dwyer.

I picked this wedding for 3 reasons…the gorgeous vintage styling (i.e the way-to0-beautiful Bride + veil + dress + ugg boots!) the old Hollywood feel and that amazing wallpaper! I love it used as a mock-photobooth – awesome, gorgeous, fun!

Ta Daaaa….
