Watercolour and Origami Garden Wedding

watercolor origami garden wedding (30)

Melissa and Ulysses were married in Davao City in The Philippines. Their wedding was themed around the bride’s favourite things – watercolour and origami. The main colours used were pale teal, yellow and coral.

“I was inspired by modern origami”, she said. “Originally I wanted everything to be origami but with the time constraint and limited materials I focused on the flowers and butterflies. I love making origami and although I already knew some basic designs, I learnt way more for the wedding. We hired a wedding coordinator to help us decorate the venue and so I also taught her to make origami butterflies. She is the one who made our origami flower bouquets.”

“The colour scheme and origami might not be a new thing when it comes to weddings, but as I do graphic design for a living, instead of going for a crafty DIY paper theme I envisioned it that it would look clean and modern. I also designed all the stationery. My sister works for an animation studio so she drew all the illustrations.”

Do It Yourself Rustic Wedding in The Philippines

rustic wedding in the Philippines (54)

Darrel and Jec met in the summer of 2002. After a whirlwind romance they lost contact, but found each other again in 2009. They got together permanently soon after. They were married in February in The Philippines, where they both live. They wanted a laid back DIY wedding with lots of rustic details.

“We wanted our wedding to be very fun and relaxing day”, said Jec. “We wanted it to have a laid back feel as that is what we’re like as a couple. We did all the planning ourselves, every little detail! It was amazing to hear people who attended saying that our big day was so personal and reflective of who we are.”

The bride designed her own dress which she had made by a local dressmaker. She also made her own headpiece and helped design the bridesmaid dresses. The flowers and most of the décor was put together by the groom.

“My husband is a very creative person so most of the creative details were actually his ideas”, the bride explained. “Our friends were also very helpful. Almost all of our suppliers were our friends including the videographers, caterers, our ceremony minister, and the band. Thesehelped us save some money but it also made the day really special.”

Black & Pink, Converse and Music Themed Wedding: Ajay & Ejay

ajayejayrockingcivilwedding_quirkycreatives 100

Ajay and Ejay were married at The Mango Farm in Antipolo, The Philippines. They chose pink and black as their colour scheme, and their theme was a mix of Converse trainers (which they both love) and music!

“We wanted to show our different personalities on our wedding day, so we started planning the wedding with just a black and pink theme”, said the bride. “Ajay was a rocker before becoming a lawyer and he’s still the vocalist of a rock band, loves wearing black shirts, and listens to Metallica. I, on the other hand, am a girly-girl. I love Hello Kitty and anything pink!”

“We incorporated other details that we both love,” she continued. “Ajay wanted to wear Chuck Taylor’s with his suit and we asked the groomsmen to wear the same. The flower girls also wore them and I changed into them for the evening. We even encouraged our guests to wear them if they wanted! On the day we were surprised that almost everyone wore them, even those who wore dresses! To fit the theme we put the Chuck Taylor image on our save the date, invitation, monogram, and table names. It became the icon that tied the whole theme together.”

Skateboarding Hippie Wedding in The Philippines: Mark & Chai

hippieeverafter_iconsphotography38

Mark and Chai both love everything about the 1970s, so it was clear that this had to be their wedding theme. They were married in Manilla in March. “Our wedding was a DIY 70s hippie-themed day”, began the bride. “We jokingly called it ‘hippy ever after!’ We love all the elements of the 70s: the music, colours, vibe, and art, and having all these in our wedding made it very unique, unpretentious, and very ‘us’. Both of us wish we were born in the 70s and our wedding actualised that dream!”

“Of course rocknrollbride.com definitely inspired us to be immensely fun, creative, and playful when organising our wedding without spending too much. Aside from this, the excitement and enthusiasm of all of our suppliers, friends, and families had further energised us to organise such ‘breath of fresh air’ – most of them were more excited than us!”

“We were blessed being married at Mary Immaculate Parish by Fr. JP Sescon who was cool enough to allow us enjoy our wedding day with this unusual theme – which not all Catholic churches in the Philippines permit. Our guests were saying that they liked how light and fun the ceremony was. One of the best things as skateboarding with our friends after the church ceremony! We love to skate so being able to do that was so awesome.”

Sneaker Themed Wedding in The Philippines: JQ & Barbie

wedoitforlove_JQ-&-Barbie-WEdding-03e

I’ve got a really fun and unique wedding for you today and I’m pretty sure you’re going to love it. In all my years of wedding blogging I’v certainly never seen a sneaker themed wedding!

“We wanted our wedding to really be a reflection of us and our favorite things”, wrote the bride. “Since we are both avid sneaker fans and collectors, it was only fitting that we wear sneakers, specifically Air Jordans, to our wedding. We joke that the theme that day was ‘Love Is In the Air (Jordans)’. Our wedding invitation also incorporated Nike’s tag line ‘Just Do It’ with the highlighted words ‘I Do’. The sneaker theme represents more than just our shared passion for shoes. It also serves as a reminder of our walk with God, first as individuals, and then as the ‘perfect pair’.”

“I know a lot of brides that want to feel particularly poised and elegant on their wedding day, but we were more focused on making sure that we were comfortable and we were going to have fun”, she continued. “Having our entire bridal entourage wear basketball shoes to our wedding, plus our 200+ guests, was going to require a little convincing. Thankfully, everyone was in on the theme and we didn’t have a hard time telling them to wear kicks. It was awesome. We were basketball fans, but even then it still came as a huge surprise when he proposed to me during half time at a Lakers game in Los Angeles (he got down on one knee and asked me to be his ‘Barbie Q’ since his last name was Quizan. I seriously thought he wanted to go to a barbecue!”.

Red vs Blue Engagement Shoot: Dantley & Christina

RedBlue_GomezMorticiaAddams_RockPaperScissors_51

It may be a massive generalisation, but in my experience no-one does engagement shoots like those creative folks in The Philippines. It’s very rare that I featured these kinds of shoots any more, but when I’m presented with something like this, there is no way I’m going to turn it down!

So what do you think? Would you ever do something and over the top, awesome and creative as this for your own pre-wedding shoot?
