Lily Blackout

Pink hair? Check! White dress with a black sash? Check! Amazing half sleeve tattoo? – Well not quite but I’m getting there soon… Methinks the gorgeous Miss Lily Blackout and myself could actually be the same person on different sides of the globe. She bought her dress from David’s Bridal but customised it herself to make it more ‘her’.

Bonnie & Cabe’s Santa Barbara engagement session is the perfect prequel to their wedding, also in Santa Barbara, this summer. However when the couple first told photographer Paul they wanted their engagement session to be at their apartment and favourite local spots, he was actually kind of worried that the photos would turn out less dynamic and exciting to what he usually likes to shoot. He needn’t have worried! The session took place on the most beautiful sunny winter day and with Bonnie, an artist and photographer and Cabe, a musician, he was set up for the perfect shoot for this creative couple.

“They were coming up with a ton of ideas and remained chill and jovial all day.” Paul explains ”You know how sometimes the photos we admire and look back at the most, are often the most basic … sitting on the couch, talking with a friend, etc. I think we nailed it. They also really wanted to emphasize their California roots … we’ll see even more “homegrown” sunshine-state flavor at the wedding this July for sure!”

Sarah Kate & John got married in Vegas with only their closest two friends as witnesses. They were hitched in a 50’s diner by Elvis and rounded off they day at The Venetian Hotel and with a ride on the gondola.

A few weeks later the pair held a intimate and gorgeous wedding at Camellia Gardens in Caringbah in the south of Sydney for their immediate family and 10 of their closest friends. Sarah Kate wore a black dress from Bridal Collections Erina, leopard print shoes from Leg Avenue Shoes and amazing limited edition cupcake earrings (there were only 100 pairs made) from Omerica Organic.

The bridesmaids wore hot red dresses imported from The States and boys were allowed to wear whatever they liked because John didn’t feel right making them wear anything specific – they just left it up to them to do their own thing!

Aren’t these wonderful? What a gorgeous couple and wedding party! I am smitten…

You are going to explode with excitement over this incredible bridal shoot…I did! Just brace yourselves for some serious awesome.

The shoot was put together by Denver based This Modern Life Photo to inspire brides to think outside the box with their bridal shoots…and boy have they done that!? The team were keen to tell me all about their vision:

“Brides, we can create a custom styled shoot like this one for you and your fiance or husband either before or after the wedding using the same creative team. Not into Rock and Roll styling? Not a problem. Our team will  work with you to create your very own vision, romantic and dreamy?, vintagey and funky?, rustic natural? Whatever your heart desires, this creative team can create!”

In my Photo Pro article this month I had the opportunity to write about one of the best known and most loved collaborations in blog land. Our Labor of Love have probably been featured on every blog out there and when you see the stellar work of Whitney, Jesse, Micheal, Max, Matt and co. it’s pretty damn easy to see why. Matt’s own wedding to Danielle was so popular when I featured it (part one and two can be seen here) and is such a perfect Rock n Roll wedding that it was an easy decision for me when deciding which of their weddings to feature. Enjoy!

Jeremy & Teylir wanted a day after session with a difference and what’s more unconventional than standing in front of a backdrop in your wedding attire? Well getting half naked and romping around a hotel room that’s what!? After this steamy scene the pair headed out to a beautiful park to get some shots to treasure forever.

New York photographer Aga of Aga Images has always been one of my favourites. Not only is she one of the sweetest, loveliest gals on the internet but she never fails to blow me away with her darling images…don’t get me wrong though, this ain’t no sissy photography, in fact Karin & John’s vintage snow day after session is RAD! I am crazy about this dress and, of course, Karin’s awesome tattoos. OMG I have to get myself to the tattoo parlour stat!

Coney Island Cool

I think I need to move to New York. All the cool kids are moving there – including the photographer behind this fabulous engagement session, Lindsey McKinley. The tattoos (of course) the radical yellow bow/net thingy, the long haired groom to be and the Coney Island setting convince me at NYC is definitely optimisation of cool.

This exceptional Rock n Roll style fashion shoot photographed by Jessica Monnich at Highball in Austin Texas hit me right between the eyes. I’ve fallen in love with the vintage 1950s rockabilly stylings, the gorgeous fashion, the stunning models, the bowling alley setting…well basically how damn cool the whole thing is! I’m so excited to share this shoot and all the people involved with you..you’re gonna love it!
Be sure to also check out Wild Orchid Studios‘ amazing video to accompany this set after the ‘jump’

“We went with a 50’s theme. The location was very hip swanky 50’s feeling bowling alley on South Lamar in a bowling alley here in Austin Texas called Highball. In keeping with the vintage theme we did a place setting in the color scheme of the shoot using fiestaware which was popular during that time period. We thought Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers would be fun as that was a popular movie during that time. We also had mock cakes made up for the shoot that had a very rockabilly feel to them as well. The “bride” carried a lotus flower surrounded by sweet peas and the “bridesmaids” carried a combination of flowers including pink sweet peas and poppies.”
