Jeanie & Mike’s Dorky & Eclectic South African Wedding

Jeanie & Mike got hitched at the end of October at Old Oak Manor & Cafe Felix in Riebeek Kasteel, South Africa. The wedding had a thrown together, eclectic vibe inspired by the couple themselves. “I don’t know if I can classify myself as Rock n Roll, but definitely different and also somewhat dorky”, explained the bride. “I think we usually do most things different than the norm and we also have a lot of fun doing it. God is always my inspiration, in fact, he gave me the idea to create a coat of arms for my new family and I used it on the invitation and all the other stationary.” Jeanie has even since decided to go into business creating wedding stationary!

Jeanie wore a custom Ilse Roux dress, inspired by Vera Wang and on her feet she had the now infamous Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon shoes! ”The story of the shoes is actually quite amazing. The particular style that I was looking for was no longer available anywhere in the world. My mom in law phoned every Vivienne Westwood stockist in the The States, we tried on the web, but no luck. Until my step-mom from Australia phoned and asked me if I had found my shoes. I told her that it was impossible to find them. I was nearly defeated, but her determined voice on the other side of the phone gave me hope. A day later she found them from a stylist in Melbourne who was happy to lend them to me for the day. When we met up with them in Singapore a month before the wedding, My step-mom handed me the precious Vivienne Westwood Lady dragon hearts. Happiness. A couple of days later, I found the blue ones on the web from a greek fashionista that lives in Pretoria. She bought an extra pair “just in case” and were happy to sell them to me. Thanks Dad!”

Jeanie’s super stylish and super lucky bridesmaids all wore different dresses, “This was a miracle co-ordinated by God himself,” Jeanie explained. ”One of them were made by a dressmaker in PTA, two from YDE and one from MEMEME in Long Street Cape Town by Doreen Southwood. Special mention to this designer – she is gold.” Their looks were all tied together with those gorgeous rosettes by Mikado, Jeanie and the maid of honour. I adore this unusual idea, it’s so much cooler than boring bridesmaid bouquets!

April & Alex’s Laid Back Garden Party Wedding

Taking inspiration from music festivals and garden parties, April & Alex wanted to create a laid back, personal wedding. They loved creating a lot of the details themselves and really wanted to make something that not only reflected them but was fun for their guests.

The bride made all the wedding stationary herself – from the invitations to the luggage tags. “I designed the postcard sized invitations on photoshop, lined the envelopes with floral paper and stamped the backs with an old fashioned address stamp,” she explained. “The orders of service were hand stamped, bound with a sewn spine and decorated with mismatched fabric hearts. We stuck to kraft paper and the same font to pull everything together. I didn’t like the idea of picking one colour as a ‘theme’ but stuck to hot and dusky pink, peach and greens as my colour palate. The confetti packets were a project from Martha Stewart and made by sewing together tracing paper and a handstamped label. For the table plan I stretched some floral fabric over a wooden frame and pinned everyone’s names on hand stamped parcel tags in alphabetical order, each with their table number. I painted cheap frames from Ikea backed with fabric for the table numbers and the place settings were also hand stamped parcel labels. I used inexpensive different sizes glass cosmetic bottles bought online to use as vases.”

Under the Spotlight – 8 Illustration

Based out of San Luis Obispo, California, August Kreowski, the man behind 8 Illustration has a passion for creative, alternative and unique Rock n Roll couples and their fabulously personalised weddings. He creates custom and one-of-a-kind invitations and paper goods for the most quirky couples out there!

“My perfect client is a couple who likes to create a theme for they’re wedding…(I love themes!)” he told me. ”I love to work with someone different, someone seeking custom and something never seen before. I want couples Who want to push the envelope, I want to get more wild more imaginative. Couples like this excite me because I want to push the limits of my creativity as well.”

“I like to get to know my clients first off, talk to them about how they fell in love, what defines there relationship, and if they have a theme for there wedding. After brainstorming I like to sketch out a custom design based on the couple.”

“After approval I get to work bringing the sketch to life. Most of my designs have an interactive element so that their guests spend more time invested in the invitation. My job is to create excitement for my client’s special day. This interactive element includes anything from creative folding, custom cut outs, twine, origami and word games.”

“I pride myself on 100% custom made which means all the invitations pass through my hands (several times). I love to create fonts, use interesting paper types, draw maps and address envelopes. I have fun creating art that fits perfectly in an envelope. It’s the mystery and the excitement of love that fuels my crafts.”

A Vintage Shoot with Lucy Ledger Designs

If you’re a regular reader of Rock n Roll Bride I’m sure you’ll already be aware of the amazing Emma Case (she shot the image that I’m currently using as my blog header/my ‘Punk Rock n Roll Bride’ shoot) and Lucy Ledger Designs. Lucy makes gorgeously creative vintage-inspired stationary (I’ve also been lucky enough to feature her before as well as meet her in actual real life!) After Lucy saw Emma’s work on Rock n Roll Bride she got in touch asking if they could get together to do a promotional shoot for her vintage stationary company. Hello!? Match made in vintage Rock n Roll heaven or what!?

“A few months ago I was reading your blog and I stumbled across Emma Case and I fell immediately in love with her style of photography” Lucy told me. ”It was about that time when I was looking for a unique way to showcase my wedding collection at exhibitions because I felt that Stationery stands were a little samey and unimaginative. I really wanted my brandto stand out and wow people and that’s when I got the idea of asking Emma to do some publicity shots for me. As we exchanged emails we thought it would be fun to incorporate a ‘rock the dress’ style shoot in with it – any excuse to wear my wedding dress (Maggie Sottero ‘Ireland’) again! I got married in the Winter so I thought it would be fab to try the dress in a totally different season and accessorize it differently to create a fresh new ‘look’ that reflected my brand – Rustic and a little bit Boho! So I thought it would be fun to pair it with my fave pair of cowboy style boots! Now I needed accessories. I have met so many amazing suppliers over the last 6 months I thought it might be nice to bring some together for the product shots and to help with my accessories. I approached various different vendors that I admired and was overwhelmed with the response – the generosity of everyone donating products to the shoot was amazing.”

Megan & Kevin’s Budget Conscious, Family Friendly, DIY Heavy Day

You might remember Megan from her Historic Firehouse Bridals that I featured a few weeks ago. I loved them so when her photographer Erica of Turner Creative Photography sent me the photographs of her and Kevin’s wedding, I couldn’t wait to share them on these pages. Even more so in fact when I found out their day was an all-out budget diy fest – one of my favourite types of weddings! I also knew that Megan hadn’t worn her actual wedding dress for her bridal shoot so I couldn’t wait to see what she’s chosen too.

The wedding took place at Highway Gardens at the Missouri State Fairgrounds and the Missouri Electric Co-op Building. Megan looks stunning in her Alfred Angelo(Sapphire collection style 805) which was their only big splurge. Everything else was a diy family effort.

A family friend made the cake and her aunt did all the flowers. The cake was actually quite ingenious as they used styrofoam for all the layers except the top layer which was actual cake. They didn’t need that much cake as their wedding was quite a small affair but the styrofoam layers (covered in icing) were used to add height and drama. Great idea!

The catering was also all done by family members and the bride and groom made over 400 cookies in hand-decorated bags for favours. A few other fabulous details included the ‘friend board’ – a collage of photographs of all the couple’s best friends. “We made a photo collage of all of our friends, because we were tired of how much of everything was focused on us. We figured people would be excited to see photos of themselves instead of us” they explained. The orders of service (also diy of course) were made into fans as the considerate couple knew it would be really hot at their outdoor ceremony.
