Norma & David’s wedding was all about the individual retro touches. In love with the art deco vibe of the 1920s and 30s, the pair used this as their inspiration – choosing to be inspired by and go with the flow of the theme rather than being restricted by it. “We wanted a vintage feel, as I am in love with art deco, 20’s and 30’s music/style/art/film” Norma told me. “As an artist the visual ‘flow’ was more important to me than being “matchy matchy”, or sicking to a theme. We like an eclectic look and things with character…we were hoping to create an elegant, whimsical, romantic, sensual feel.”

The couple got married at White Album Wedding Chapel in Chilliwack, an 1886 wedding chapel, restored with old wooden doors, and an old church bell which is actually owned by their photographers! “A few years ago we accidentally found the chapel for sale” Elizabeth & Mark explain. ”When we walked into the little white heritage church along a narrow country road and saw the worn hardwood floors, wooden doors with old door knobs,  tall windows and an old church bell, we fell  in love. It’s a great place to run our photography business and a beautiful place for two people in love to get married!”

Norma wore a dress and catherdal length veil from ‘Treat Bridal’ in Langley and Fluevog shoes. David’s green shirt and zebra tie were found at Le Chateau and gave him such much needed pizazz! Norma designed her own bouquet and used iris and peacock feathers to get the look she was after.

This exceptional Rock n Roll style fashion shoot photographed by Jessica Monnich at Highball in Austin Texas hit me right between the eyes. I’ve fallen in love with the vintage 1950s rockabilly stylings, the gorgeous fashion, the stunning models, the bowling alley setting…well basically how damn cool the whole thing is! I’m so excited to share this shoot and all the people involved with you..you’re gonna love it!
Be sure to also check out Wild Orchid Studios‘ amazing video to accompany this set after the ‘jump’

“We went with a 50’s theme. The location was very hip swanky 50’s feeling bowling alley on South Lamar in a bowling alley here in Austin Texas called Highball. In keeping with the vintage theme we did a place setting in the color scheme of the shoot using fiestaware which was popular during that time period. We thought Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers would be fun as that was a popular movie during that time. We also had mock cakes made up for the shoot that had a very rockabilly feel to them as well. The “bride” carried a lotus flower surrounded by sweet peas and the “bridesmaids” carried a combination of flowers including pink sweet peas and poppies.”

Sweethearts

When blog land favourite, Amelia Lyon, posted Sam & Nikki’s amazing looking wedding on her blog yesterday I was sure some other, high flying, blogger would have snapped them up for a feature. Never one to give up without a fight, I emailed Amelia on the off-chance they were available…and guess who got lucky?!

Sam is actually Amelia’s cousin. He married his sweetheart in January and luckily for us Amelia was first on hand to take these amazing shots. Nikki wore her Grandmother’s dress (sweet) and stunning cobalt blue shoes from DSW.

Be sure to check out their amazing love story/ same day edit video by Shade Tree Films after the ‘jump’!

You know I’m usually all about the rock chicks, but there is just something about a quirky, DIY, eco, British wedding that I just can’t resist…and that fact that the bride wore Vivienne’s (I have them in yellow)…well I’m sold! Photographer Mark told me the whole story:

Marie and Karl chose the personal, DIY approach to ensure their wedding reflected their eco-conscious principles, where possible, combined with their love of elegant, vintage styles, nature and music! The day was based in two venues in the Northern English Forest of Bowland on a snowy day in late December.

The invite package contained screen printed and hand stamped bunting on recycled card and a button badge! The couple also set up a website was to encourage electronic RSVPs.

Follow up posts are always fun, I always think when I see an engagement session ‘ooh I wonder what their wedding will be like?’ So it’s great to find out the answer! Nik & Nicole’s Desperate Housewife session gave me high expectations for their big day, and boy am I not disappointed. I am loving Nicole’s crystal encrusted shoes by Steve Madden (customised with the crystal by Nicole), cuffs and hairpiece from Dalita Moda and her phenomenal fishtail dress (check out the back!) designed by the bride and made by Carole Pitts. The bottom even detached for the dancing in the evening. Also check out that fabulous custom made ‘BRIDE’ necklace, also by Dalita Moda. It’s pretty bad ass right?

The bridesmaids look every bit SATC chic in their daring black dresses, also by designed by Nicole and made by Carole Pitts, and their fishnet tights…and the boys in all black – hummanahummana…

Backyard Beautiful

Lauren & Alexander got married last summer in their own back garden, surrounded by 35 of their closest friends and family. The whole day was a DIY affair and a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple. Lauren looks amazing in her simple Betsey Johnson dress and Moschino Chic & Cheap shoes, while Alexander bucked all the trends by wearing a casual T-shirt and Jeans from Nordstrom and by spending the whole day barefoot!

The wedding had a very comfortable, home-grown, relaxed party feel. The details weren’t really that important to this couple, ignored in favour of what really mattered to them – family, friends, home and love.

Kati & Hilal’s wedding made me squeal with delight. It may have primarily been her custom made Skin Graft gown, her L.A.M.B shoes and her dreads that made me so excited, but alongside this inital visual feast, the whole laid back ambiance, feel and ethos of the day really makes me happy. Kati explained her choice of dress:

Basically, it came about like this:  I had seen and bought a few individual pieces of Skin Graft attire during the past few years, and then I noticed that they had a few weddings (within their “gallery”.)  I started an email conversation with them about a year before the wedding.  (Skin Graft consists of 3 core designers and at least one wedding/custom gown assistant.  I envisioned the outfit with Cassidey (one of the core 3) and then he passed me off to Amanda (wedding attire assistant) who finished the project off.  We discussed different types of dresses they had already made, and different things I liked/didn’t like.  They sent photos of previous work, and drawings of my potential gown back and forth via email.  I was measured in San Antonio, and sent the measurements to LA.  When I received the dress I had to have it altered a little, but Skin Graft reimbursed me for the alteration fees.

Timeless Beauty

Photographer Kelly Moore always sends me the coolest stuff and Claira, her model, is not your typical bride. The bridal session took place a few weeks ago in Shreveport, LA and Claira looked every bit the vintage princess and like she had just stepped out of a different era. She wore her grandmothers wedding dress which I am loving when teamed with her brown, brogue-like shoes.
