Aeroplanes, vintage clothes a food fight make for a pretty incredible engagement session. Kristen & Steve put a lot of thought and effort into their ideas for the shoot, and Kristen even went the full whack and wore a genuine vintage dress from the 1970′s that had belonged to her Mother.

“Kristen emailed me one day with the idea of a food fight and nonchalantly asked, “Do you think we could do that?” — Needless to say… I said hell to the yeah!” explained photographer Julian. ”So after acquiring her Mothers original engagement party dress (Yup! The dress is 30 years old) – We decided to go vintage, vintage, vintage and finish with the food fight.”

“We hadn’t quite figured out WHERE we were going to shoot and when the day finally rolled around, we still didn’t have a “definite spot”. So while driving around the Coast, with me pointing out a few spots I’d scouted for them, I suddenly had an epiphany and asked, “Have you guys ever been to the Air Museum in Caloundra?” — We dropped everything, raced over to the Museum and started shooting. We shot practically all day long, then found a nice patch of grass to set-up a cute, quaint little picnic… with a twist.”

Kristen planned and organised the whole aestetic of the shoot and organised all the props. She baked her own cakes and everything.

Love!

When David & Ruth started to think about the kind of theme they’d like for their engagement session and up coming wedding they realised that they wanted to do something that celebrated their life together and their upcoming marriage. ”We soon realised that like our life together and we pretty much wanted it all to reflect us – vintage, geek chic, retro, scifi, lowfi, folk, rock, disco, soul, town and country – with extra sprinkles please.”

The couple headed from Manchester to Hoarwithy, nestled in the Wye valley in Herefordshire for their engagement session with their photographers Nicola & Toni. “After having a wee yawn and a big stretch, we unpacked the dressing up trunk from the car and went to meet Nicola & Toni in a little wood on the bank of the river Wye.  The next two hours were spent having a laugh, dressing up, and playing in and around the gorgeous old wooden gypsy caravans.  It was a great way to meet Nicola & Toni who are doing the photos at the wedding and from this taster, we can’t wait!”

Well guys, I hope you like the full set! I’m so excited to share them with you and the rest of you Rock n Roll Brides.

It’s official, photographer Matt Miller of Our Labor of Love gets the coolest most Rock n Roll clients! Stephanie & Adam had a picnic at an abandoned prison for their engagement shoot shoot – not only a killer juxtapositionof themes, but maybe even a bit of a dig at the oh-so-often-seen ‘vintage picnic’ setting…it actually might not be but I kinda like the idea that it is!

“Adam and I set a date of May 14th 2011 shortly after getting engaged on June 5th” Stephanie told me. ”We knew we would want our amazing photographer and good buddy Matt Miller at Our Labor of Love to shoot our engagement and wedding photos. We were stoked to hear he found a perfect location to shoot some photos of us in Atlanta. We, alongside our two road dogs Evan and Jenn, headed south to make it happen. The day was way more fun than we could have imagined. We shared laughs, a few bug bites and many jokes while exploring an abandoned prison, the boiler room and an amazing gorgeous field in-between the two. The juxtapose setting was a perfect place to show the love we have for each other.”

“Adam and I met 2 years ago after I moved here from Savannah, GA and became best friends, quickly connecting through a mutual interest in skateboarding, bicycling and music. Now we have found ourselves not only planning a wedding but also buying and reforming a clothing business called Niche Market. This next year will prove to be tons of fun and full of growthtogether. We can’t wait to celebrate with friends and family at Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, NC. Our ceremony will be held on a white sand beach overlooking a blue lagoon nestled in a rock quarry. The reception will be catered with fresh goodies straight from the farm crops. We hope to throw in a couple bride and groom Friday the 13th tattoos the day before just to make sure we keep it interesting.”

Arrrgh their wedding is going to be incredible! I can’t wait to see and (of course) share it.

You might recognise the utterly gorgeous singer and actress Kestrin Pantera from her ‘Three Dresses & The Wedding of the Century’ (part 2 here) wedding which exploded all over blog land a in May. Well how lucky am I? It turns out she’s a Rock n Roll Bride fan and so sent me this totally awesome and slightly crazy photo shoot that she did recently.

“Andreanna (the photographer) and I had both always wanted to shoot at the Salton Sea, which is out in the middle of the southern California desert” she told me. ”Once she suggested it, I remembered a national treasure right next door: Salvation Mountain, a 50 foot high and 150 foot wide mountain, made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint.”

“The artist/creator of the mountain (who lives on-site, alone, in his truck), is a 79 year old man named Leonard, who has worked on it for the last 20+ years and continues to today. He invited us to take as many pictures as we liked and to stay as long as we wanted, giving us a tour mid-shoot, and bottles of water. We conceived of a Wizard-of-Oz-esque scene (with all of Leonard’s vibrant colors and existing yellow brick road), and since my dog, Batgirl was with us, she played the part of Toto. The dresses were designed by the talented Giuliana Mayo who made the pink dress specifically for my MTV Canada debut in June 2010. Giuliana is kind and brilliant, and has worked with Johnny Depp, Prince, Stephen Tyler, Britney Spears, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, among many other legends. It was an honor to wear her gorgeous designs.”

Oh I love featuring anniversary shoots. I get excited and all mushy to see how in love you guys are even after a few years of marriage…and of course they mean that there is no end to the inspiration I can give you – so don’t stop reading Rock n Roll Bride just because you’re married you hear!?

Sarah & Ben, have been married for 4 years and wanted to do a vintage rustic themed anniversary shoot in a park. They had a sweet lazy picnic going with apples and antique coca cola bottles where they could lie in the grass and enjoy the sun. They also climbed a tree together, wrote love letters on a typewriter, and listened to records. Their outfits were handpicked from estate sales, thrift stores, and Etsy and the props they brought - a portable record player, records, a birdcage, and a typewriter - were also from thrift & antique stores or passed down from family members.
