What Exactly IS a Rock n Roll Wedding?

Credit: Malgosia Bela by Mario Testino via Fashion Gone Rogue

The question I dread when I meet people for the first time (which is of course the question that they then always ask) is “So, what’s the most ‘Rock n Roll’ wedding you’ve ever seen?” (and yes, they sometimes even do the air quotes {{shudder}} )

First off CHRIST, if they knew how many weddings I’d seen over the last 3 years their heads might explode. It is a lot! How do I choose between them all? How can I possibly pick just one? Or even just one style of wedding? The great thing about Rock n Roll weddings is the vast differences between them all. It would be like a choice between a pair of Vivienne Westwood shoes or a huge big pink cupcake. They are not mutually exclusive and I want both please!

The other thing that happens to me a lot is people say (usually in comments and anonymously I might add) “Well that wedding is not very Rock n Roll is it? Why did you feature that?” or even worse I once got “Who the hell are you? You’re not 50’s rockabilly in style at all! You are a fake. You are not Rock n Roll!” Erm…correct! I am not 50’s rockabilly in any way. Have I ever claimed to be?

Maria Lluïsa Rabell – Magical Dress Inspiration

This is not the usual post I put up but sometimes there are exceptions to be made. I received an email from reader Claire the other day who told me “I nearly died when I saw these dresses”. Hell, I can see why. Serious swoon-fest over here. I want them all!

The Barcelona-based designer Maria Lluïsa Rabell blends contemporary subtle lines and elegance with amazing technical flair and ability. Unique, out-there and original. Have you ever seen anything like these? They have such a magical, romantic feminine feel don’t they?

Don’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover

That’s what photographer Belletold me when these landed in my inbox last week. “Katie and Aaron wanted a shoot that really captured their intimacy and also their unique sense of style. Aaron is an aspiring fashion designer. His line is called “Anticonformity and Filthy”, and most of what him and Katie are rockin’ in the photos are his creation. Never judge a book by its cover, because while they may look edgy in the photos, they were one of the sweetest couples to work with.”

Gorgeous, Heavily Tattooed Bride at Warwick Castle

There is no other way to describe this Warwick Castle shoot than kick ass. Is photographer Steve Gerrard fo’ real? I can’t get over how much I adore these and how much I want to be this bride!

“I’m one of the castle’s recommended wedding photographers” Steve explained “so when I asked the lovely Katie Hill at the castle about doing the shoot, she was more than helpful, even allowing us to shoot long after the public had to leave the venue.”  Steve was helped along by local vendors The Bridal Boutique who donated the gorgeous Lou Lou Bridal dress and The Blossom Tree who helped out with the flowers.

Steve wanted to shoot two different sides of the bridal story so he found Steph, a classic English rose (you can see her session here)and Laura – the gorgeous, heavily tattooed chicka you see below. Rock-the-hell-on!

Gothic, Fancy Dress, Halloween Wedding

I have been dreaming about blogging this wedding since October when photographer Caroline of the wonderful  Tinywater emailed me to let me know she was off to shoot a Halloween, fancy-dress gothic themed wedding…and even before shooting the wedding, she knew I was going to love it. Well judging by the number of photographs I’m including in this post you could say she was pretty much bang on! I was lucky enough to have Rachel, the bride get in contact with me to share all the glorious details!
