Swings, Balloons & A First Dance to Weezer: Joie & Cody

Kat

July 20, 2011

When the recently married Joie emailed me to share her awesome first dance video, I knew instantly I wanted to share it! Anyone that dances to Weezer is bad ass in my book! I was surprised though that Joie didn't send me her full wedding as she said wasn't sure that it wasn't 'Rock n Roll' enough for the blog. Erm...no way lady! As soon as I saw the beautiful Meschantes Couture corset dress and the portraits on the swing I was smitten!

Colour, Confetti, Candy, Cakes & Kilts: Amanda & Colin

Kat

July 14, 2011

"Colin and I have been together for almost 7 years and thought it was about time that we tied the knot," read the email I received from newlywed Amanda last week. "Unlike most women, I don't think I ever really dreamed of what my wedding would be like so I didn't really know where to start when it came to the planning. I'm a complete control freak and knew that I wanted to make and take part in creating as much for the wedding that I could so I started looking for inspiration on various websites and in books." "We knew that we wanted a few things for certain: a great photographer (or 2) to capture every grin, tear and laugh; a sweetie buffet; lots of handmade touches; fairy lights (and lots of them!); cupcakes; photo booth; a black and white wedding with splashes of colour; a hand fastening ceremony; confetti and sparklers." From these simple ideas they created the stunning wedding you see on these pages! "Colin was really eager to have a hand fastening ceremony and we both wanted to involve our family in the ceremony as much as possible," continued the bride. "It was so important to us that we showed our love and appreciation for our family and this was the perfect way to not only add a splash of colour but it was also to show them exactly how much they mean to us."

April & Christian’s Colourful Dance-Party Rooftop Wedding

Kat

July 8, 2011

April & Christian's rooftop wedding was held at Aerial in Nashville and from the sounds of things it was a fun-packed wedding from start to finish. "The ceremony was on the rooftop in downtown Nashville right beside all the honkey tonks," photographer Alex Bee told me. "The bridal party DANCED down the aisle to live music played by the bride & groom's brothers. They really got into it! The bride's entrance had the most tension/energy/anticipation that I have ever experienced at a wedding. The bride entered the ceremony to rising beginning guitar solo of "She's the One" by Bruce Springsteen. Did I mention that they passed out tambourines & eggshakers & encouraged the guests to play along? It was really amazing! The reception was an epic rooftop dance party + karaoke."

Jachen & Monica’s Travel Themed, Whimsical Woodland-Inspired Wedding

Kat

July 5, 2011

Oh where oh where do I begin with telling you about Jachen & Monica's woodland-inspired wedding? The images and video of their wedding are such a visual feast that I almost don't know where to start. The day had a sort of travel/woodland theme which reflected the fact that the couple met in Switzerland. Monica explains, "A year ago I was living in Switzerland as an Au pair when I met my now husband. I was only there for 3 months, but just long enough to have met him the last month I was there. We were both in the right place at the right time, the only time I would have been able to meet him. It is amazing how you can look back on all the events that led up to that moment and how evident it was that I was supposed to be in Switzerland to find him. After I met him we had one more month until I had to return to my home in Seattle. We continued skyping, emailing and a few times he came to me and I went back to beautiful Switzerland to be with him where we became engaged. Sometimes everything just falls into place and we were lucky enough to have that happen to us."

Tina & Scott’s Travel Themed Crafty Wedding

Kat

June 1, 2011

Tina & Scott's travel and craft themed wedding took place at The Greenbranch, Texas. It was predominately a DIY wedding influenced by the couple's travels. "It was mostly a do-it-your self peacock inspired wedding with a splash of anything vintage was a blast," the couple told me. "Our invitations were an image of a vintage suitcase with travel stickers of places we have visited. This connected with our first date; a “geocaching date”. We not only wanted to share our journey as a couple with our guests but also encourage them to have an adventure of their own. The wedding favors for the evening were uniquely trackable geocaching coins designed by us."

Michelle & Deborah’s Romantic Parisian Themed Wedding

Kat

April 1, 2011

Michelle & Deborah's touching ceremony was one of the main reasons I wanted to share their wedding with you all today. Quite apart from all the beautiful and individual details the couple put into their day, the readings and poems that they selected for their ceremony made this wedding really special and signified their relationship perfectly. They chose Shakespears Sonnet 116, a section from the children's book "I Like You" by Sandol Stoddard and "I carry your heart with me" by E.E Cummings for their vows. Finally in order to include the fight for equality they read the Massachusetts ruling on marriage. They thought it was so simple and basic and spelled out what marriage meant to them in a perfect way. "FROM GOODRIDGE V DEPT OF HEALTH (Mass. 2003): Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. Without question, civil marriage enhances the “welfare of the community.” It is a “social institution of the highest importance.” Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family… Because it fulfils yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life’s momentous acts of self-definition….It is undoubtedly for these concrete reasons, as well as for its intimately personal significance, that civil marriage has long been termed a 'civil right'."

Katelyn & Scott’s Glamorous Great Gatsby Wedding

Kat

February 16, 2011

"The Great Gatsby was my inspiration (minus the abundance of alcohol and affairs!)" bride Katelyn told me. "Our style for our wedding was very glamorous, but not without that 1920's quirk. I like to think my style is quirky too, so this was perfect for our wedding day. Plus, I love fashion and culture from the past! Now, I could never justify spending as much money on a party as Jay Gatsby, but I still wanted my reception to be as unique and fun. So, I replaced stuffy details like flowers with more lively ideas like bright peacock feathers, and I picked a beautiful venue (that happened to be brimming with vintage touches!) where everyone would feel at home - The Guild House, Bakersfield, CA."

A Groovy Kinda Love – The 1960’s are BACK!

Kat

January 21, 2011

"The idea for a 60's inspired shoot came about after I noticed we’re seeing lots and lots of vintage 1950's style about and I figured it was about time the 1960's gave it a run for its money," explained photographer Shelly. "I had a vision of a pink bowler hat and from there, everything else fell into place." Shelly invited planner Kelly (of Boho Weddings) and Asher to model for her. "I knew I wanted mini dresses in a Mary Quant style and Debbie over at Danielle Lara Couture created these two especially for the shoot. When I went to collect them, I ended up picking up a couple of others at the same time – I just couldn’t help myself!"

Sara’s Urban Bridal Shoot

Kat

January 19, 2011

Sara's bridal shoot makes me heart sing! Motorbike, cute doggie, ink, vintage brooch bouquet...oh yes I certainly approve of this! Sara told me all about her inspiration for her shoot with Sweet Caroline Photo, "My dress is from Pronovias and I got it from a bridal boutique in Salado, Tx called Coccinella's. My necklace was actually found at one of those crazy bridal extravaganzas from Stella Dot. I saw it there, tried it on, and decided within 5 minutes that it was THE necklace! My shoes were none other than Irregular Choice! Love them! I really wanted something fun, quirky, and comfortable...and flat, as my fiancé is only about an inch taller than me! My bouquet was made by myself and my fiancé, Barrett. I took a bunch of my old jewellery and hair pieces that I used to wear ALL the time and I haven't been able to part ways with and wired them all together. I also asked my stylists and receptionists at my salon to give me some of their old jewellery because I really wanted a piece of them with me during all of this. They gave me a lot of pendants, rings, earrings, etc, and I love being able to look at it and see pieces of the people that have become my family."

Gorgeous Vintage Bouquets from DC Bouquets

Kat

January 10, 2011

I love it when a great idea comes together - especially when in some small way Rock n Roll Bride can help! The fabulous (and she sooo is!) Debs of DC Bouquets was browsing her favourite wedding blog (yes, yours truly's) one day back in April 2010 and she came across a photographer local to her in South Yorkshire, Dolly Photography. She loved her style and so contacted her to see if she would be up for photographing some of her latest vintage bouquet designs.

“We got married after spending just 12 days with each other…”

Kat

September 9, 2010

Oh MAN am I excited to share Krystle & David's wedding story with you today. The couple got married just twelve days after they properly met and they couldn't be more in love if they tired. This is their story... "We met online via our professional wedding photographer forum, DWF.", the bride told me (they are both professional photographers) "We actually first met when both of us flew across the country to attend the DWF annual convention, in Nashville this past January." "We talked that first weekend about getting married and joked around about going to get married by Elvis back then and I told him I would have married him with a ring pop because I just wanted to be with him. We actually decided to just get married mutually, and when he came out to see me the couple days before we eloped to Vegas, he surprised me with a real proposal! We were playing Mario on my Super Nintendo because he swore he was better than me, yea that sucker failed miserably and I kicked his ass. He then pulled out a Star Wars tin lunchbox filled with my favorite Canadian chocolate bars, I love you mints, and dousche bag gum. At the bottom of all of that was a ring pop. He told me he loved me, wanted to be with me forever and then some, and then asked me to marry him. Nothing over the top, but I can't think of any better way to be proposed to than Mario, chocolate, Star Wars, and wearing sweat pants."
