With a budget of less that $6000, Shane & Lisa had to be very creative and clever when it came to planning their wedding. Luckily they had a lot of support from their friends & family and they really got into the DIY!

“Everything about the day was beautiful but what really made it sparkle was all our friends and family”,  Lisa told me. “I am so very thankful for them. My family and friends had all mostly come from out of state and immediately started in on making the cake, helping with food prep and cooking, cleaning, decorating, grilling, and cleaning up  (they kicked me out of kitchen during reception because apparently the bride is not allowed to load her dishwasher in her wedding dress.)”

“The biggest inspiration I had was from us and our family,” she continued. “We wanted our wedding to reflect who we were  as individuals, as a couple and as a family. Together we have 4 children, I have 3 girls and he has 1 boy. So it wasn’t just us making a commitment to each other, we were making a commitment to our children too. It was important to me to keep our true selves in this day. We are a very creative, musical, full of life family so every piece of our wedding meant something that was about us. From the guest signed poster (picture courtesy of our fabulous photographer Margie who did the family picture shoot) to the beer ceremony, which had a Bud Light Lime because that’s our compromise beer (I drink Bud Light, he drinks Corona) – even the lanterns had meaning.  We did it OUR way, it came from with in, with heart and soul bared and you can’t get much more rock n roll that. Of course the groom in a Motorhead t-shirt and Docs, Bride in black spiked 4  inch heels walking down to Type O Negative “Love you to Death”  pretty much seals the deal on Rock n Roll.”

“My oldest daughter (18) walked me down the aisle, with my two youngest leading the way.  It was important to me that she be the one to “give me away.” We have been down many roads together and her approval on this was important to me, her toast later in the evening showed me that and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.”

“Most aspects of the wedding were DIY. We were on a very tight budget and I was very much into making our wedding personal.   I made the invites with maps and info, the brooch bouquet, the ring box, the hand fasting cord, the veil, the hair pieces, the cake design, decor and cake stand (we saved a log from being mulched), the cootie catcher (paper fortune tellers) programs. The decor was all items we either had or could use in our home after and some homemade such as the spaghetti jar lanterns hanging on the porch. The food was all prepared by myself or my wonderful family and friends and we wrote our own vows.”

This is such a fabulous wedding! Both sweet and punk rock at the same time. I love it!

“Music is what brought us together (this quote was featured on our invite) and we decided to base our wedding around our mutual love of music,” newlywed Tania told me. “We decided that we would use the term ‘Love Rocks’ throughout our wedding and incorporate the music theme through all the wedding details.”

“Our wedding was rock, glam and vintage. We had an awesome 1950′s Vintage Bus that had been restored. The board at the front of the bus said “Love rocks”. Our bomboniere was music note keyrings with scalloped gift tags that said ‘Love Rocks’ on them. The centrepieces were DIY lace covered votive candle holders with vintage music note love heart table scatters and shabby chic table numbers. We used red black and white as our wedding colours as music paper is black and white and roses are red. Birds were also featured on our invites, tea light candle holders in centrepieces and on bunting decorating the reception as birds are connected to love and song. We both wanted a wedding that reflected us as a couple and we wanted it to be fun and colourful.  The music we used in our wedding was also a very important part of our wedding.”

As you can see Tania & Jay’s wedding is perfect for Rock n Roll Bride. They used personal and crafted details as well as a load of awesome independent suppliers that they found though Etsy to make their wedding totally unique. ”Tania & Jay’s wedding was fun, well planned and totally THEM, ” confirmed their photographer Janine Kaye. “Jay has a huge passion for music and Tania loves crafty stuff. She organised everything herself and it looked amazing. For the location photos we wanted something a little different with an urban grungy feel..an abandoned warehouse, their favourite music store and red wall to highlight their fun props.”

Rachel & Nicky were married at the super swanky Andaz Hotel in London. The bride read Rock n Roll Bride throughout her planning and I’m oh-so-excited to see some of my favourite touches throughout this wedding (that cake? effing awesome!)

“Nic and I have been immersed in music since we were young, we have both grown up listening to punk and hardcore and a massive spattering of Bruce Springsteen!” the bride told me. “We wanted to make sure that our day really represented this. From invitations that featured Springteen lyrics, tables named after Springsteen songs from Born to Run to Badlands. I wanted to make sure that the day was a total celebration and that everyone was smiling all the way through. I walked down the aisle to ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ sung by Morecambe and Wise, just stopping short of doing the walk/dance that goes with it, which raised a laugh out of everyone attending and we left the ceremony to Springsteens ‘Two Hearts’.”

“Our cake from Choccywoccydoodah wasn’t the most traditional of cakes but it really represented our ‘dark side’! With a huge chocolate skull on the top and the tattooed ’till death do us part’ chocolate heart on the front, stunning and yummy. We always knew that if we got married that we would want to do it in Central London, we could never see the point of heading out to castles in the countryside as this had nothing at all to do with our lives. I have always found the City and financial district to be the most beautiful part of London, the incredible old stone buildings sitting between the sharp angles of glass and steel. I knew from the start that The Andaz was the place for us, I had dreamed of getting married here and having the reception and party in the old Masonic Temple that formed part of the hotel. We kept the temple a surprise and led people in there for the party, everyone was so shocked that there was room this beautiful tucked away. We partied away the night amongst the marble and gilt to classic rock mixed with a spot of punk, even our families danced along to Cock Sparrer’s classic ‘We’re coming back’! The whole day was our version of punk luxe.”

“It’s well known that Nashville’s cup runneth over with amazing musicians, songwriters, and performers,” wrote Kate of  Wedding 101, a wedding planning studio located in The Factory at Franklin. “We wanted to pay homage to a classic rockstar wedding. Our inspiration for this shoot, captured by the oh-so-talented Joe Hendricks Photography, began with a Flowers That Rock bouquet, made entirely of guitar picks and strings.”

The model for this shoot was Laura Veltz a singer/songwriter from Nashville. The rockstar theme is an obvious one, and works so well because every member of the team brought a unique piece of themselves and their business to create one overall cohesive look. The results are genuinely Rock n Roll!

From the beautiful dress to the vinyl record inspired invitations, and from the customized drumstick favours and the last minute addition of the jewel encrusted bouquet, it all works so well!

Be sure to check out the rad video too…
