A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock n Roll: Angela & Russ

Kat

September 21, 2012

Guitars, cowboy boots, a performance from the couple to round off the evening... what's not to love?! Angela & Russ were married in May and wanted their wedding to reflect them. The personal details started with the ceremony, where instead of a traditional unity service, they each bought a beer - one sweet and one bitter. The bitter was to symbolise the challenges they would face in life and the sweet for the sweet things they would share. They combined the two beers in a 'Redneck Wine Glass' "a Mason jar attached to a candle holder!" they explained.

A 60’s & 70’s Inspired Smokey Boudoir Sesh (*NSFW*)

**Warning before we begin, some of these photos may not be safe for work, so don't say I didn't warn you. There are boobs...nice boobs...but boobs none the less...** Most of you will have noticed that I don't feature a whole load of boudoir on Rock n Roll Bride. It's not that I don't like it, but I guess my opinion is the same as that on engagement shoots - the photos are amazing for the people involved (show me a man who wouldn't want to see his bride to be all sexified-up for him pre-wedding?) but for us non-involved people, once you've see one hot lady in sexy undies jumping around on a bed you've seen 'em all...

Vintage, Geek Chic, Retro & Folk – With Extra Sprinkles Please…

Kat

September 3, 2010

When David & Ruth started to think about the kind of theme they'd like for their engagement session and up coming wedding they realised that they wanted to do something that celebrated their life together and their upcoming marriage. "We soon realised that like our life together and we pretty much wanted it all to reflect us - vintage, geekchic, retro, scifi, lowfi, folk, rock, disco, soul, town and country - with extra sprinkles please."

Wind, Hair & Rock n Roll

Kat

August 31, 2010

"Just another hot and windy Sunday afternoon in Tracy, CA" began photographer Nirav. "Showing Matt & Lynnae's love for each other meant that they had to feel extremely comfortable in their location and with me so I decided to start the session at a place that they had spent a lot of time together and had lots of character which was Matt's mother's home/farm. The home included stables, a farm house, and several critters of all sorts. We took several shots there and once things felt right we moved out to the hills of Tracy with the intention of shooting with the giant windmills in the background. When we got, the security patrol was there to make sure those shots were not going to happen. The amount of wind up on hill was tremendous and I loved the movement of hair so we took the remainder of the shots there with a very simple backdrop. My favorite shots are ones that play on light and shadows. I wanted at least one dramatic silhouette shot which is when I spotted the power lines. After that, we all headed back to house and passed out from heat exhaustion."

Rotterdam Rock n Roll

Kat

August 13, 2010

I love these guys! Normen & Priya are from Holland and had their engagement shoot in Rotterdam with Tapas Maiti. This is just pure Rock n Roll and the couple have got a GREAT story. "I met Priya at the Asian Wedding Exhibition last November" Tapas told me. "It was an hour to go before closing and I was about pack up when she came to my stall and we got chatting. Priya & Norman are from Holland, her mother was a Hindu who arrived in Holland via Surinam whilst her father is a Sikh from the Punjab. Many Indian Hindu's have settled in Holland by way of Surinam through the Dutch Indian Empire, its a fascinating story and shows the complexity of the Indian diaspora."

Cheesily Fabulous ~ Vegas Baby!

Kat

May 1, 2010

Vegas baby! Meredith send me such a great description of Reed & Alicia's cheesily fabulous Vegas-themed wedding that I just have to hand this one over to her... "Reed & Alicia planned their fun, quirky wedding in just six weeks! When they began looking for ceremony locations & venues, the two came across this small chapel located near the beach where they usually walk with their golden retriever. After looking inside and seeing the bright red carpet & a cheesy stained glass window (with a rainbow & two doves) at the altar, Reed & Alicia came up with the idea of having a kitschy Las Vegas-themed wedding in this Vegas-esque chapel. They found 60 pairs of "Elvis" sunglasses on Ebay and envisioned having their guests put on these sunglasses right after they were pronounced husband & wife, during their kiss.

Homegrown Sunshine-State Flavour

Bonnie & Cabe's Santa Barbara engagement session is the perfect prequel to their wedding, also in Santa Barbara, this summer. However when the couple first told photographer Paul they wanted their engagement session to be at their apartment and favorite local spots, he was actually kind of worried that the photos would turn out less dynamic and exciting to what he usually likes to shoot. He needn't have worried! The session took place on the most beautiful sunny winter day and with Bonnie, an artist and photographer and Cabe, a musician, he was set up for the perfect shoot for this creative couple.

Buddy Holly & Mother Nature

Kat

March 1, 2010

Amy & Nick's wonderful South Austin wedding had a distinct and very individual theme - perfect for them! Big fans of Buddy Holly and late 50's/early 60's music, it was important to them to really have that as a big part of their wedding. Amy walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Every Day played live by a friend on the guitar. Nick waited to marry his sweetheart decked out in a grey suit, Buddy Holly glasses and his favorite pair of Converse. Amy wore a dress by Dolly Couture which was perfectly accented by a Magnolia flower created by Amy Barber of Sweettooth Bags.

Under the Spotlight – Jordan McLachlan

Kat

January 20, 2010

I've got a true Rock n Roll photographer to share with you today! Jordan McLachlan's music business background certainly gives him the credentials worthy of shooting your Rock n Roll wedding. "I’ve worked in the music industry for more than 10 years as magazine writer/editor and photographer," he told me "Plus I've run a PR/marketing agency looking after music clients. So over the years I’ve written for most of the big specialist titles like Guitarist, Total Guitar and Rhythm magazines (I still do odd bits for Rhythm - the most recent interview is a cover with Dominic Howard from Muse that hits the shelves next month)." With the gorgeous texture, tone and subtle hues throughout his documentary styled images, there's certainly a lot more than guitar riffs behind Jordan McLachlan. Let's get on with learning more about the man behind the music shall we?

At Home with Hannah & Ali – An Engagement with a Difference

Kat

January 9, 2010

I wanted to try my damnedest to avoid sounding like some kinda of dumb jock as I wrote this but I think it is inevitable. When you see these you'll understand me saying "Duuuuue these freakin' RULE!" Hannah & Ali chose to have their engagement session at home - and when you've got a house as intriguing and filled to the rafters with so many individual and quirky touches then why wouldn't you? Plus the pussy cats got to play too and that's always a good thing. Thanks to Steve for sharing this awesome couple with me. Their style and fabulousness is just over the top ridic.
