Bonnie & Cabe’s Santa Barbara engagement session is the perfect prequel to their wedding, also in Santa Barbara, this summer. However when the couple first told photographer Paul they wanted their engagement session to be at their apartment and favourite local spots, he was actually kind of worried that the photos would turn out less dynamic and exciting to what he usually likes to shoot. He needn’t have worried! The session took place on the most beautiful sunny winter day and with Bonnie, an artist and photographer and Cabe, a musician, he was set up for the perfect shoot for this creative couple.

“They were coming up with a ton of ideas and remained chill and jovial all day.” Paul explains ”You know how sometimes the photos we admire and look back at the most, are often the most basic … sitting on the couch, talking with a friend, etc. I think we nailed it. They also really wanted to emphasize their California roots … we’ll see even more “homegrown” sunshine-state flavor at the wedding this July for sure!”

You are going to explode with excitement over this incredible bridal shoot…I did! Just brace yourselves for some serious awesome.

The shoot was put together by Denver based This Modern Life Photo to inspire brides to think outside the box with their bridal shoots…and boy have they done that!? The team were keen to tell me all about their vision:

“Brides, we can create a custom styled shoot like this one for you and your fiance or husband either before or after the wedding using the same creative team. Not into Rock and Roll styling? Not a problem. Our team will  work with you to create your very own vision, romantic and dreamy?, vintagey and funky?, rustic natural? Whatever your heart desires, this creative team can create!”

Amy & Nick’s wonderful South Austin wedding had a distinct and very individual theme – perfect for them! Big fans of Buddy Holly and late 50’s/early 60’s music, it was important to them to really have that as a big part of their wedding. Amy walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Every Day played live by a friend on the guitar. Nick waited to marry his sweetheart decked out in a grey suit, Buddy Holly glasses and his favorite pair of Converse. Amy wore a dress by Dolly Couture which was perfectly accented by a Magnolia flower created by Amy Barber of Sweettooth Bags.

The fabulous Chelsea Nicole  has just launched her new Fusion Video venture, offering videography to her lucky couples. She sent me this a-a-amazing example from Kory & Trent’s engagement session in a dry lake bed, Las Vegas, NV. Doesn’t the video really bring the images to life?

Coney Island Cool

I think I need to move to New York. All the cool kids are moving there – including the photographer behind this fabulous engagement session, Lindsey McKinley. The tattoos (of course) the radical yellow bow/net thingy, the long haired groom to be and the Coney Island setting convince me at NYC is definitely optimisation of cool.

I’ve got a true Rock n Roll photographer to share with you today! Jordan McLachlan’s music business background certainly gives him the credentials worthy of shooting your Rock n Roll wedding. “I’ve worked in the music industry for more than 10 years as magazine writer/editor and photographer,” he told me “Plus I’ve run a PR/marketing agency looking after music clients. So over the years I’ve written for most of the big specialist titles like Guitarist, Total Guitar and Rhythm magazines (I still do odd bits for Rhythm – the most recent interview is a cover with Dominic Howard from Muse that hits the shelves next month).”

With the gorgeous texture and tone, and the subtle, muted hues throughout his documentary styled images, there’s certainly a lot more than guitar riffs behind Jordan McLachlan.  Let’s get on with learning more about the man behind the music shall we?

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Jordan McLachlan and I’m a photographer. One of the things I do is slightly quirky-but-pretty documentary wedding photography.

Where are you based and what cities/countries are you available to for work in?

I live on the Essex/Herts border about an hour from London. So London, East Anglia and the South-East are on the doorstep, but I love to travel …

I wanted to try my damnedest to avoid sounding like some kinda of dumb jock as I wrote this but I think it is inevitable. When you see these you’ll understand me saying “Duuuuue these freakin’ RULE!”

Hannah & Ali chose to have their engagement session at home – and when you’ve got a house as intriguing and filled to the rafters with so many individual and quirky touches then why wouldn’t you? Plus the pussy cats got to play too and that’s always a good thing.

Vintage Vibe

Oooh do I smell a new trend emerging? I was sent yet another engagement featuring vintage records today and I love it. As every sleeve tells a different story on it’s own, using them in a shoot gives each image a completely different vibe.

Beautiful Boudoir {NSFW}

What lady doesn’t want to feel super sexy just before her wedding (or any time in her life for that matter!) This gal certainly knows how to ‘bring it’ – loving the leopard print bra, the ruffled knickers, the guitar and of course the tattoos. Ooh err Misses!

ps the photos after the jump have some serious sexiness going on and may not be safe for work
