I really love featuring weddings that I feel like I was in anyway a little part of shaping. Not only did the bride Carolynne read Rock n Roll Bride throughout her planning (yey!) but she even won one of my contests for a cute Lissita Treasure Ring by TokyoMade which she gave to her Maid of Honour to wear on the day!
This fabulous diy wedding was held at Prairie Production in downtown Chicago. Carolynne looks fabulous in her $75 dress which she found on Ebay (wow!) and her Joan & David shoes. She teamed these with a hat/veil combo which she found by Cyndef Designs on Etsy and vintage gloves and jewellery. Her groom, Andy looked pretty damn dapper in his Michael Kors suit too!
“We wanted to have a chic, urban wedding that we would want to go to if we were the guests” the bride explained. “Since I had only been to one other wedding in my life before this, I had little to go on, but as long as it had awesome music & food, and no boring speeches or dumb traditions (like throwing a garter) then really anything was possible!” The couple really wanted to have a mix of modern and vintage styling and found the minimal loft space of Prairie Production to be perfect for this. They were able to add classy touches with the simple flower designs and vintage touches with their outfits and that cool car!

I loved Matt & Brandy as soon as I read their email to me last week. “We are f***ing rock n’ roll because we had the balls to call off a wedding.
We originally got engaged in April 2009 and shortly thereafter set the date for April 2010. We wanted a simple affair which of course spiraled out of control. It became about every one else. We lost sight of what the day meant to us as a couple. The guest list kept getting longer…which meant more money…and more problems. In November it hit us…wtf are we doing????
We ended up calling off the wedding…and calling off our engagement. We became a bit disenchanted by the whole wedding planning and wondered if it was something we ever wanted to do. We absolutely became victims of the wedding stress monster. We never thought it would happen to us!”
See? love them?! Lucky for them (and us!) they did decide to continue down the wedding path, but only if they could do it their way! “Months passed and we still loved one another. We still planned on spending the rest of our lives together so what now?” they continued. “We couldn’t imagine planning another wedding. Ugh. Well…Matt ended up winning free tickets to anywhere within the continental U.S. that had to be used before May 31st 2010. We decided on San Francisco and then we decided…hey…lets elope while we’re there!”

OK so this was the Australian wedding that I’d planned on posting yesterday but me being a bit pink (as apposed to blonde) I forgot about the crazy time difference between here and Oz so when I was emailing the photographers to get the info I needed, unsurprisingly they weren’t replying because it was like 3 in the morning or something. Aaaanyway it matters not because NOW my babies I am able to share this fan-bloody-tastic wedding with you…and I’m so pumped to hear what you think. I literally wet myself with excitement when I saw Madeline’s purple and green dress!
Madeline & Nic decided very early on that they didn’t want a traditional wedding – the bride’s two sisters had both done the white wedding thing and although their days were beautiful and perfect for them, it wasn’t quite right for this couple. “We are non-traditionalists (hence no white/ no flowers/ no favours/ no wedding cake/ no sit-down dinner) and we wanted a wedding that reflected our personalities and relationship. Bit crazy, lots of fun, different and unique” the pair told me.

You’re going to love Erica & Ryan’s homespun, diy wedding…and you’re certainly going to love their story. I was over the moon to receive these gorgeous images from photographer Katie and even more chuffed when Erica got in touch with all the juicy details.
“Ryan and I originally thought we would just have a courthouse wedding, and then have a big party. Of course, our parents were not so thrilled with the idea. We also did not want anyone else planning or making decisions for OUR wedding/party, because we did not want it to be the same old wedding and the same old reception that we’ve all attended twenty times before. Nothing against traditional weddings, we’re just not traditional. We also were looking to keep it cheap simply because we think it’s silly to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a few hours. All we really needed was the two of us looking snazzy and an amazing photographer.”

Oh yes I do love The Wizard of Oz and when I saw Eagen & Jason’s wedding and it’s nods to Oz, I knew it was perfect for a little blogging. What I love particularly about the wedding is that the theme hasn’t taken over the day - it’s not cheesy, it’s not crass, it’s not cringy – they have just included a few subtle nods to the movie in an oh so stylish way. The emerald (city) bridemaid dresses, the table names, the sparkly ‘Dorothy’ shoes.
