Pink Flamingos Warehouse Wedding

A bride in a pink dress, bridesmaids in outfits covered in flamingos, a warehouse venue decked out in colourful DIY decor, a ceremony conducted by the bride’s father… This wedding is just – wow!

Caragh and Ryan were married at Woodside Warehouse in Glasgow. “Our wedding was an epic flower, flamingo, pineapple colour-smash!” said the bride. “We knew we wanted something different, but to begin with weren’t quite such what that meant. We got engaged in December 2015 and married in May so after the initial engagement excitement we had about 4 months to actually get stuff planned. That meant we had to look a little out the box.”

“Woodside Warehouse was the first and only venue we saw, we fell in love with the big spaces and flexibility, it really inspired us to be creative. Plus we knew as it was so big we had to make really big things to fill it. With it and the caterers taking up most of our budget we also knew that our wedding was going to be very DIY. I’m from a very creative and artistic family so that was really exciting. My mum used to be a jewellery and textile designer so she was incredible at helping make things, or at least figure out how to make things! Plus we’ve got an army of friends and family who were up for rolling up their sleeves and helping us do stuff!”

If you love a retro wedding, prepare to fall in love. Sham and Alice’s DIY marvel has got to be one of the most adorable weddings I’ve seen in a long while! The day was held at Blundell’s School in Tiverton, Devon.

“Our wedding was late 50s, early 60s inspired with a sprinkling of sunflowers and flamingos!” exclaimed the bride. “We had giant pink flamingos flanking the entrance and a sunflower arch that we got married under. We had an array of wonderful music including All You Need is Love performed by Andy Watts complete with backing singers and brass section, and I sang a self penned song called Shammy Blue Eyes at the reception. My parents coincidentally also sing one they had written called Alice Blue Gown during the speeches. Elvis was also a surprise for all the guests and worth every penny!”

John Waters and Pink Flamingo Inspired Same Sex Wedding Shoot

Coming across the most amazingly colourful house by chance one day, wedding photographer Shannon Collins dreamed of being able to do a shoot there. Well fate stepped in, making it a possibility, so she knew she had to make it extra magical!

“Last year, I was photographing a couple in Philadelphia for an engagement shoot”, wrote Shannon. “On my way home, a few minutes from the location, I drove past a lovely yellow house with tons of pink flamingos scattered across the lawn. I screeched my brakes and drove in reverse so I could capture a quick snapshot of the house. It instantly reminded me of the John Waters film, ‘Pink Flamingos’ and made me smile.”

“I posted the photo to Instagram, thinking nothing of it. A few hours later, a friend of mine responded saying that one of her close friends grew up in the house. Then, the close friend commented, saying her parents still live there and she’d let them know I liked it. I reached out to her, asking if she thought her parents might be open to the idea of having a styled shoot at their house. The home-owners were incredibly gracious and although they were out of town for the day of the shoot, they allowed us to use their home as our backdrop.”

Flamingos & Fun: Charlotte & Luke

“I got married in August”, said pink haired Blogcademy attendee Charlotte after the workshop was over. “Your blog was a huge help so thank you.” “Amazing, I responded – make sure you send me your photographs!”

And she did, and oh boy am I glad. What a wedding!

“Our wedding theme was decided on a drunken weekend in Palm Springs in May when we were on a work trip”, Charlotte told me. “We ordered 50 pink plastic lawn flamingos to be delivered to the Ace Hotel… then panicked when they arrived and we had to buy four huge holdalls to take them back on the plane! I was convinced customs would think we were smuggling drugs and cut them all open but they really made our wedding!”

“Luke & I have our own custom printing business, Awesome Merchandise, so we made a lot of the stuff ourselves – very last minute! I wasn’t the greatest DIY-er. I had ten skulls for my centrepieces turn up two weeks after the wedding because I was so last minute about everything! My hero bridesmaid Cat made about a million paper poms for me because mine looked a bit sad! I missed my manicure the day before the wedding because I was frantically pouring sand into little zinc pots for my table plan (that I’d only come up with about 3 days earlier) whilst being filmed by Choccywoccydoodah, who made our cake, for their TV show!”
