A Festival Tipi Wedding on the Family Farm: Amy & Chris

Kat

October 20, 2012

Festival and tipi weddings have been big in 2012... like huge. Like they're the wedding trend that just won't quit. And that not necessarily a bad thing, because hell, who doesn't love a festival and camping and toasting marshmallows over an open fire? When Amy & Chris set to planning their July wedding, they decided that the groom's family home, Laskey Farm in Thelwall, was a more than perfect spot. After a humanist ceremony performed by Kate Gee came a various bands and performances with the evening being rounded off with a silent disco!

A Farm Engagement Shoot: Jo & James

Kat

October 13, 2012

I was married at 24, which is pretty young really, so I was by far the first of my friends to tie the knot. But now, getting scarily close to 30 (as Gareth likes to kindly tell me. Oi! I'm only 28 buster!) a lot of my friends are now walking down the aisle too. EXCITING. So when Jo, who I used to work with at the shopping channel, got engaged to James, I was straight in there with my recommendations and ideas for her wedding... in fact I'm probably verging on annoying about the whole thing. But for Jo, wedding photographer David McNeil was the obvious choice. He also used to work at said shopping channel (!) and feeling comfortable in front of the camera was super important to Jo & James. David is a wizz at this. I can vouch for him. "I was quite apprehensive before the shoot as I just wanted it to be perfect", Jo explained. "I know James isn't keen on having his photo taken (I'm not so bothered!) so I was nervous we wouldn't get any decent photos of us both, then when it came to the wedding day I'd be constantly stressing about it! But I need not have worried. David made us feel really comfortable from the get go. There was no awkward posing or cheesy smiles... it all felt really natural, which really shows in the photos (I think!) In the end we both really enjoyed the whole experience, we're both extremely happy with the photos... David was awesome and I can't wait to see what he does for the wedding! I'd definitely recommend an engagement shoot to any couple that are getting married as it prepares you for the big day."

DIY Farm Wedding & the Wedding Photographer who Captured the Milky Way: Shirley & Waz

Kat

October 9, 2012

You've probably seen one of Shirley & Waz' wedding photographs before, because it went kinda viral. Remember the wedding photograph that captured the actual milky way!? Yeah that one... (and if you didn't - and where have you been? - it's at the bottom of this post). Anyway after wedding photographer Lakshal Perera published that image and everyone calmed down and people stopped squealing "PhotoShop!" (it wasn't by the way) every single wedding blogger on the planet (probably) waited with baited breath to see the rest of the images. And jeez I nearly fell off my chair when Lakshal emailed me to ask if I'd like to be the blog to share it... erm... let me think about that for like 2 seconds... HELL YES PLEASE!

A Colourful Festival Wedding at Ridge Farm: Layla & Dan

Kat

August 24, 2012

Layla & Daniel were married in Rusper, Sussex in St Mary Magdalene's Church, followed by a festival style wedding at Ridge Farm. I've featured weddings at this iconic wedding venue before - why so iconic you ask? Well the farm has a recording studio where Oasis, Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody was written here!) Roxy Music, Thin Lizzie, Black Sabbath and many many others have recorded albums! AHHHMAZING. "The wedding was all personalised by me & Dan", wrote Layla, "including the wine glasses, the moustaches & lips, the heart decor, the table plan & numbers, the 'LOVE' sign and the bunting. We had a two-day wedding. From the start we knew we didn’t want everything to be over with in just one day! Ridge Farm was the PERFECT venue as we were able to hire it exclusively from Friday to Monday which meant our parents, brothers & sisters, bridesmaids and best men could share the whole time with us. We also had some friends of ours camping on the grounds. Friday was set-up day, with everyone mucking in; Saturday was the wedding; and on Sunday we had about 100 of our guests returning for a Hog Roast, DJ’s and dancing till the wee hours!"

A Maryland Farm Wedding: Jamie & McKenzie

Kat

July 6, 2012

Too gorgeous for words...like literally. I just stared and stared at these amazing photos for (what seemed like) hours before I found the words to start writing this article. There really is something utterly breathtaking about this wedding and Lydia Jane's images that captured it. I'm thrilled to be able to share it with you today so please forgive my gushing... Jamie & McKenzie were married at home. They love their lifestyle on their farm, living alongside the sheep and chickens, so a homespun wedding was really the only option. The couple have a hugely supportive family who all helped out to make the wedding what it was.

A 3-day Wedding at a Rockstar’s Retreat: Holly & Karen

Kat

June 6, 2012

Ridge Farm, a working farm and ex-recording studio in Surrey, proved to be the perfect location for Holly & Karen's May wedding. "What made our wedding Rock n Roll? Definitely the venue!" Holly told me. "Aside from being a beautiful farm that we fell in love with instantly, Ridge Farm is also a recording studio where so many of our musical heroes have recorded albums and stayed - so our wedding guests were partying in the very same place that Queen, Whitesnake, Muse, Roxy, Rush and many more have partied! We hired the farm for the entire long weekend - Karen is Irish and it's Irish tradition to hold 3 day long weddings so we had a big meal on the Friday for family and friends then the wedding on the Saturday, followed by a pool party with live music and a hog roast for everyone on the Sunday. The farm sleeps 24 plus there is a camping field so all our hungover guests could just crawl out of bed on Sunday morning and stumble over to rejoin the party. By Sunday evening everyone was in the jacuzzi swigging prosecco from the bottle, even Karen's mum!"

A Handmade Florida Wedding : Mike & Melissa

Kat

May 1, 2012

Working in the music industry it was important to Mike & Melissa that their wedding suited their lifestyle and sensibilities and 1903 Hontoon, a vacation property in Deland Florida, turned out to be the perfect place. "Mike is a local musician and recently I have decided to leave my job and become his manager!" began the bride. "We have been together for almost 4 years now and over the next two we will be setting up our lives to hit the road indefinitely until we find the best place to live! We are too hot here in Florida and always long to be in the mountains. We changed our wedding date 3 times just so that we could have it at this venue, because as far as Florida goes it was pretty hard to find a place that really spoke of who we are. We chose 1903 Hontoon, a vacation property that used to be an old boat & motor repair shot. It has an awesome feel to it. Our wedding is hardcore DIY & hand made - from 1,000 paper cranes to the tablecloths to the bridesmaid dresses and jewelry. I'm extremely crafty so I have been a non-stop force of productivity in creating everything I possibly can for this day. With that being said it is REALLY important to us to have our wedding captured because every detail is so dear to our hearts! The two of us never imagined that we would get married but, love eventually finds you and before we left for our travels it was important to us to share this bond and experience with our families."

A Country Vintage, Festival Inspired Wedding: Nichola & Jay

Kat

April 2, 2012

I'm loving the fact that the gorgeous country vintage/ festival-inspired wedding of Nichola & Jay is brightening up Monday morning on my blog! Talk about heading into a brand new week with some gusto! The August wedding was held at New House Organic Farm in Derbyshire. The farm is not a wedding venue (the couple were legally married at the resister office after their handfasting ceremony in the field) but they chose it to host their celebration here because it's a place that's very special to them. Their theme was chosen to not only compliment the farm setting, but because they love Glastonbury music festival - they met there and were engaged there (not in the same year!)

A Party-Hard Utah Mountain Wedding with the Bride in a Romper Suit!: Elizabeth & Brendan

Kat

January 4, 2012

When newlywed Elizabeth emailed me to share her wedding and told me she wore the Princess Lasertron VuVu romper for the evening reception, well I just knew I had to feature them. A bride in a romper suit? hell yes! "Our theme was supposed to be 'Farm Fancy'," Elizabeth explained. "People wore their interpretation of farm fancy attire, and some people really went all out - boots, denim, sparkly fire engine red onsie with white fringe! The theme quickly became 'Wind-Blown Princess Lasertronerific Farm Fancy Booze Fueled Costume Pop Dance Extravaganza'. Awesome."

A Farm & Festival Wedding: Roisin & Paul

Kat

December 12, 2011

Roisin & Paul's Somerset wedding makes me ache for those long Summer days again. The Apple Orchard at Brook Farm played host to their August nuptials - a celebration of love, life and all things good. The couple opted for a humanist ceremony led by Alison Orchard, "She was so crucial to the success of the ceremony, which was such an emotional and wonderful experience," the bride told me. "I think lots of people thought it might have a been a hippy-dippy, tree-hugging, fingers down-your-throat service, but instead found it was a lovely and romantic experience. We wrote our vows and kept them quite similar to the traditional ones. We sang, 'A little Help from My Freinds' by the Beatles and I cried all the way through it."

Kat

October 21, 2011

Kevin & Lindsay were married at the bride's Dad's farm in Melbourne. Along with his wife Lynne, he spent a year perfecting the properly in order to host his daughter's wedding. An Organic Farm Wedding: Elisha & Russell

Kat

August 11, 2011

When I saw Elisha & Russell's wedding I knew they'd made the perfect choice in their photographer Joanna Brown. If you follow Joanna on twitter you'll know that she loves her garden and grows her own veg, so the fact that this wedding was held on Magdalen Farm on the Dorset/Somerset border...well she must have been in her element! "The staff of The Magdalen Project at Magdalen Farm are amazing and even joined us on the dance floor and around the campfire at the end of the evening," the newlyweds told me. "We loved that our wedding was helping to support the Wessex Foundation who encourage active learning in and about the outdoors."

Sarah & Aaron’s Rustic Vintage Wedding

Kat

June 16, 2011

Sarah & Aaron were married at the bride's Grandparent's farm in Lake Ariel, PA. "Our wedding could not have been done as well as it was without the selfless help of our family and friends," the bride told me. "People were always volunteering their time to help us out in any way they could. And in that way our wedding day was not just about me and Aaron, but a celebration of our friends and family as well. Our community not only came around us in support of our marriage the day of the wedding, but were also a big part in making it the beautiful day that it was!" Their rustic vintage theme was set by the venue, but continued with the DIY elements the couple put into their day like the fabric garlands and tin can lanterns. "We didn't want one of those cookie cutter weddings that you go to a store to pick out and purchase every little thing. No printed napkins, no machined decorations--we wanted a hand and a heart to create our wedding instead, " Sarah continued.

Emma & Matt’s Incredible Fancy Dress Wedding

Kat

September 8, 2010

Emma & Matt had an incredible fancy dress wedding at home. The bride & groom live on a farm, so they decided their own home would be the perfect venue. The theme for the fancy dress was anything from 1920's - 1980's and they invited their guests to dress as their favourite decade from the last century. Even the music they selected fitted the theme, with the DJ's 'The Beautiful and the Damned' - who they saw playing at a festival - playing an eclectic mix of music from the 1920's to the 1980's throughout the evening.

Anthropologie & Rustic Farm Elegance with a Rock n Roll Twist

Kat

February 15, 2010

Oh squeeeeal! I'm not sure I can say anything more intellectual about Luke & Charis' wedding, in fact I think only 'squeeeal' will cover it. So. Much. Awesome! "This couple was married in a barn at Sharon Rose Farm in Greenville SC" photographer Anna told me "The bride is a hair stylist, the groom is a drummer - so the music and the style was fabulous and original. I thought what was so rock n roll about this wedding was that the bride made surprise stick-on tattoos to replicate her new husband's favorite tattoo on his arm, and all the guests had a mini tattoos during the reception just like the groom!" Charis wore a dress from David's Bridal and she asked her bridesmaids to simply pick their own black dress. When Charis and her bridesmaids walked into the venue someone said, "It looks like an anthropologie catalogue just walked in!" The ceremony and reception were held in a beautiful red renovated horse barn. It was such a nice mix of rustic farm, elegant chandeliers and vintage flare. There were mason jars with wild flowers, and baskets of peanuts on cocktail tables as guests mingled and sipped lemonade before the entering the barn. An old typewriter was used as a to write notes to the bride and groom, and a sweet bird cage to put them in. Just sit back and enjoy these - I know you will! Funky, Farm Wedding

Kat

December 10, 2009

Neil & Hayley wed at The Rare Breeds animal farm, in Ashford Kent on the probally wettest day of the year! All was not lost however as not only to Hayley get to rock her bridal look with some wellies, but the laid back couple just took it in their stride. We didn’t really have a theme. We just wanted a wedding that was simple, elegant and pretty with a choccy cake! My dress was from a shop in Ashford, UK called Brides of Kent ltd. I found it the first day I even looked for a dress. It was the 3rd dress I tried on! Everything seemed to fall in to place easily with the wedding. Fate. Thanks to Martin for sharing this funky, laid back and UK wedding with us today
