You love the diy weddings don’t you? Yeah me too so here’s another gem for you. John & Rose did everything themselves. They also looked for ideas on how to save money on pretty much everything. Rose wore a gorgeous second hand Nicole Miller called the Vintage Daisy Dress which she found online as well as hand making all the flower arrangements and her bouquet (the bridesmaids also made their own bouquets.) Rose’s parents made the cake and her brother made the stand, they had friends who made the desserts. Rose kept her look unfussy with sandals from Steve Madden and a necklace that had belonged to her Mum and a bracelet (made by John) that she already owned and a flower halo which she made herself from flowers from her parents’ back garden.

“Years ago I ripped a picture out of a J Crew catalogue, (before John and I met even…)” Rose told me, ”of a wedding dress that was very very similar to the one I wore.  When John proposed I thought of the dress and found it was still available from J Crew, however it was $3000, much more than I was interested in spending.  So, I searched and searched for something similar in all the stores around from Salinas to Santa Barbara, to no avail.  Eventually I started searching the internet, and found the Nicole Miller vintage daisy dress (the one I wore) but it had been discontinued, and I could only find used options, that weren’t too affordable.  One day I came home from work early with a headache, and was looking around on ebay, and found the dress I wore, a brand new dress almost identical to the one in J Crew, for $350 instead of its original price of $1400!  Wow!  The minor problem was it was a size 16… but I bought it anyway, it came with tags attached in mint condition.  I took it to the Fitting Image seamstress in San Luis Obispo, and she basically made me a new dress.  I was stoked!!!”

Contain yourselves people, I have an pretty damn awesome wedding to share today! Rachel & Brandon, a Mormon couple, are definitely Rock n Roll – just check out that bride’s style! Rachel’s Mum made her dress (OMG!)  inspired by Alexander McQueen and Project Runway!

“I got the idea from a dress by the late Alexander McQueen (loved him) and Project Runway” Rachel told me. ”I think it was season 5…Kenley was the contestant’s name and she totally ripped of McQueen, but her rip off gave me the idea for MY rip off and the idea for my dress was born. When I got engaged (like a year after that season aired), I emailed my mom some pictures of the dresses and asked if she could make one like that for me. She, being the amazing mom that she is, told me she would try. So we spent the next few months finding fabric and combining patterns. My dad helped with the skirt-he is a mechanical engineer-so he helped us figure out how to tier the fabric so it wouldn’t collapse on itself due to the weight of the feathers. And we ordered the feathers, which were ostrich I believe, from some craft place in the south, I think they were from Louisiana or something. The dress is actually 3 pieces-there’s the bodice with a tulle skirt attached, then an underskirt that is more or less a hoop skirt, and then the feather skirt that goes over the top and attaches with some buttons and a hook & eye.”

Rachel teamed her amazing dress with shoes from ebay and a hairpiece that her husband made for her (seriously OMG how adorable are these two!?)  He glued a brooch Rachel had found in a bridal store to a feather, then added some ribbon and pearls and put it all onto a clear comb. Ta da!

This awesome shoot was put together for Little White Dress bridal boutique in Bakersfield, CA. I love that a bridal shop went for such a retro rockabilly look for their promotion. “I really wanted to do an out of the box bridal shoot in a retro cigarette style ad reminiscent of the old Winston/Lucky strike ads” photographer Jeb told me.

You are going to love Soumya & Anil’s photo shoot. Not only is Soumya wearing some of the most gorgeous dresses, like ever, but the backdrop and setting – in particular the way they are reflected in the water, is nothing short of spectacular. Anil is really into working on cars so they had to get that into the shoot too and the contrast between the two themes works perfectly.
