Sneaky Sunshine

Heather & Neil’s sunny, yellow and turquoise themed wedding was actually not as sunny as it appears! While the wedding party got ready it poured with rain, yet luckily for all, when it came to the portraits (which I heart) the sun shone. Great photographs like this will make any wedding day look happy, relaxed and sun-filled…even if it’s pouring with rain!

Rustic Diy Details

I was blown away by Carla & Neetling’s South African wedding, in particular the phenomenal DIY vintagey, rustic and natural details and her beautiful dress. Carla and her Mum did most of the wedding themselves and loved personalising all the details.

The wedding took place at Kleinevalleij, Wellington SA and Carla looked stunning in her Robyn Roberts dress, Ninon Louw shoes and awesome white lace tights!

Meredith & Eric’s wedding was based around their all time favourite band – Gun n Roses baby! Meredith wore a dress designed by the same designer behind the wedding dress in the November Rain video. It is imperative they you listen to this song as you view these fabulous images (and excuse me, but did anyone else forget how awesome this song is…and don’t even get me started on the hair - I love it!)

To top it all off, the couple actually got their wedding for free…yes free! Check out the full story from the News 9 news report and the full list of vendors who donated their services for nothing on photographer Brandi’s blog.

This exceptional Rock n Roll style fashion shoot photographed by Jessica Monnich at Highball in Austin Texas hit me right between the eyes. I’ve fallen in love with the vintage 1950s rockabilly stylings, the gorgeous fashion, the stunning models, the bowling alley setting…well basically how damn cool the whole thing is! I’m so excited to share this shoot and all the people involved with you..you’re gonna love it!
Be sure to also check out Wild Orchid Studios‘ amazing video to accompany this set after the ‘jump’

“We went with a 50’s theme. The location was very hip swanky 50’s feeling bowling alley on South Lamar in a bowling alley here in Austin Texas called Highball. In keeping with the vintage theme we did a place setting in the color scheme of the shoot using fiestaware which was popular during that time period. We thought Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers would be fun as that was a popular movie during that time. We also had mock cakes made up for the shoot that had a very rockabilly feel to them as well. The “bride” carried a lotus flower surrounded by sweet peas and the “bridesmaids” carried a combination of flowers including pink sweet peas and poppies.”

Sweethearts

When blog land favourite, Amelia Lyon, posted Sam & Nikki’s amazing looking wedding on her blog yesterday I was sure some other, high flying, blogger would have snapped them up for a feature. Never one to give up without a fight, I emailed Amelia on the off-chance they were available…and guess who got lucky?!

Sam is actually Amelia’s cousin. He married his sweetheart in January and luckily for us Amelia was first on hand to take these amazing shots. Nikki wore her Grandmother’s dress (sweet) and stunning cobalt blue shoes from DSW.

This Art Deco bridal shoot took place at Eltham Palace in London. The fabulous dresses including  Valerie’ by Sarah Arnett, ‘Kristine’ by Claire Pettibone and two dresses by Olivia Couture were provided by Blackburn Bridal and were all chosen to reflect the Art Deco nature of the building and the shoot. The flowers were sent by  Veevers Carter. Photographer Sarah wanted to tell me all about her vision.

There were a few motivations for the shoot. I wanted to show off the Art Deco design of the Eltham Palace and I felt that our model, Victoria’s look really encapsulated the decadent spirit of the 1920’s which was perfect. The dresses were also chosen according to the venue with the exception of the the Olivia Couture swirl dress which was shot in an Italian style room adjacent to the iconic circular entrance hall. The soft, vintage styled bouquet worked well with all the dresses and the final shots with the black bobbed wig were an unashamed homage to Louise Brooks, the Art Deco pin up herself!”

Floral Punk Rocker Bride

Lizz & Will tied the knot at Houston Mill House in Atlanta, GA. The wedding had a great floral, spring-like feel but with touches of punk rock throughout – just the way I like it! Lizz found her dress at Bridals by Elena in Glen Burnie MD. isn’t it beautiful? Lizz told me

“I had done some dress shopping for about a month, and nothing seemed to STAND OUT. Until I walked into Elena’s.  I had about 4 dresses I wanted to try on and was on my way to the fitting room when I saw my dress on a Mannequin.  I instantly knew that was my dress.  It was the first one I tried on and it was the last.  Later that day I found the perfect shoes I was looking for, and when Elena saw them she thought it would be a spunky idea to die them the color of the purple sash on my dress.  I was a great experience, and Elena and her daughter are amazing seamstresses”

atreception

A few weeks ago I was offered a couple of tickets to attend The Designer Wedding show in Battersea, London. The event took place from last Friday – Sunday so my friend (and photographer extraordinaire) David McNeil and I thought we’d go check it out in the hope to be inspired, have fun and to actually real-life-meet some of the amazing UK wedding vendors that we’ve met online. Today I want to share a few of my highlights and photographs from the event so you can see what fun we had. I definitely did and I even got to meet a bunch of Rock n Roll Bride readers. It was the first event I’ve been to where I actually got recognised which was surreal but certainly nice! Here are some of my (and David’s) faves.

magpievintage1

♥ Magpie Vintage undoubtedly had one of the busiest stalls of the day. I’ve wanted to meet Lisa & Tania for ages now and The Designer Weddingshow proved to be the perfect opportunity. I wondered up to their stand hoping they’d spot the pink hair and know it was me and as soon as I was within 20 feet I was greeted by Lisa with a massive hug and an “oh my god you look so young!” (haha way to suck up Lisa – you go girl!) and ” oh you simply must wear this necklace!” She the proceeded to drape a beautiful powder pink and teal green reclaimed vintage gem around my neck which I was lucky enough to walk around with all day (and yes I did remember to return it after!)

sugalily

♥ Abbey of Sugalily Stationary and I have been chatting online for months now so it was great to finally meet her in real life. I fell in love with not only her but with her beautiful creations in paper, ribbon and sparkly bits. From retro to classic, colourful to muted, Abbey’s display was one of the most endearing there..and she had cupcakes! Now who could say no to that!?

boothnation1

♥ Myself and David had waaaay too much fun at the  Booth Nation/Glitterbooth. As we walked past I was instantly drawn to the 8 foot, silver glitter-covered photo booth. We were greeted by Seamus who immediately told us to hop in and give it a go, and inside only a bloomin’ built in wind machine (you can see we had fun with that!) I swear to god, if I was getting married again I would totally have one of these. Awesome!

♥ David fell in love with Emma Hunt’s simple, clean lines and said he would certainly be recommending their gowns to his clients! Read the rest of this entry »

Oh squeeeeal! I’m not sure I can say anything more intellectual about Luke & Charis’ wedding and Charis’ bridal shoot, in fact I think only ’squeeeal’ will cover it. So. Much. Awesome!

“This couple was married in a barn at Sharon Rose Farm in Greenville SC”  photographer Anna told me “The bride is a hair stylist, the groom is a drummer – so the music and the style was fabulous and original. I thought what was so rock n roll about this wedding was that the bride made surprise stick-on tattoos to replicate her new husband’s favorite tattoo on his arm, and all the guests had a mini tattoos during the reception just like the groom!”

Charis wore a dress from David’s Bridal and she asked her bridesmaids to simply pick their own black dress.

When Charis and her bridesmaids walked into the venue someone said, “It looks like an anthropologie catalogue just walked in!” The ceremony and reception were held in a beautiful red renovated horse barn. It was such a nice mix of rustic farm, elegant chandeliers and vintage flare.  There were mason jars with wild flowers, and baskets of peanuts on cocktail tables as guests mingled and sipped lemonade before the entering the barn. An old typewriter was used as a to write notes to the bride and groom, and a sweet bird cage to put them in.

Just sit back and enjoy these – I know you will!
