I am seriously so in love with Laura & Colin. What an utterly gorgeous pair, with an utterly gorgeous e-sesh (although these shots were actually taken the day after their wedding) at Salvation Mountain. I’ve blogged about this amazing place before. The ‘mountain’ in the Californian desert is a 50 foot mountain, made totally of local adobe clay and paint. The 79 year old creator of this national treasure, Leonard, lives on site alone in his truck (!) and his piece of art has been a work in progress for over 20 years!

“Salvation Mountain is located in the lower desert of Southern California in Imperial County just east of the Salton Sea and about a hour and a half from Palm Springs,” the mountain’s website explains. ”Salvation Mountain is Leonard’s tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: “God Is Love.” Leonard’s passion has lovingly created this brilliant “outsider art ” masterpiece resplendent with not only biblical and religious scripture such as the Lord’s Prayer, John 3:16, and the Sinner’s Prayer, but also including flowers, trees, waterfalls, suns, bluebirds, and many other fascinating and colorful objects. Salvation Mountain must be seen to be fully appreciated as those who have made the journey will attest. Its 50 foot height and 150 foot breadth is made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint and is truly unique in the United States and probably the world. From its Sea of Galilee at the bottom, to the big red heart in the middle, to the cross at the very top, the reoccurring theme of “Love” is everywhere at Salvation Mountain”

What an amazing place to shoot huh?!

My friend Jen over at Green Wedding Shoes has blogged Laura & Colin’s wedding today too! Be sure to head over their and check it out. It’s a beaut.

You might recognise the utterly gorgeous singer and actress Kestrin Pantera from her ‘Three Dresses & The Wedding of the Century’ (part 2 here) wedding which exploded all over blog land a in May. Well how lucky am I? It turns out she’s a Rock n Roll Bride fan and so sent me this totally awesome and slightly crazy photo shoot that she did recently.

“Andreanna (the photographer) and I had both always wanted to shoot at the Salton Sea, which is out in the middle of the southern California desert” she told me. ”Once she suggested it, I remembered a national treasure right next door: Salvation Mountain, a 50 foot high and 150 foot wide mountain, made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint.”

“The artist/creator of the mountain (who lives on-site, alone, in his truck), is a 79 year old man named Leonard, who has worked on it for the last 20+ years and continues to today. He invited us to take as many pictures as we liked and to stay as long as we wanted, giving us a tour mid-shoot, and bottles of water. We conceived of a Wizard-of-Oz-esque scene (with all of Leonard’s vibrant colors and existing yellow brick road), and since my dog, Batgirl was with us, she played the part of Toto. The dresses were designed by the talented Giuliana Mayo who made the pink dress specifically for my MTV Canada debut in June 2010. Giuliana is kind and brilliant, and has worked with Johnny Depp, Prince, Stephen Tyler, Britney Spears, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, among many other legends. It was an honor to wear her gorgeous designs.”

An old elevator and a creepy, deserted boiler room made for the setting du jour for Patrica’s Trash the Dress shoot. The venue was actually the basement of the hair salon she works in (Celebrity Hair in Edmonton) Photographer Elizabeth explains:

The elevator in the building is just awesome with old scuffed hardwood floors, wood grate and brick walls surrounding. Patricia worked a pretty traditional looking dress, but the photos are far from traditional! We had some fun with a big chunk of tulle that looks awesome in the photos! We ended he session in the very scary pitch black boiler room. The only light in there was the flashlight that I was using to light the session. It was so quiet and creepy down there and then every so often the boiler would roar to life! Was scary, but totally worth it because look at how awesome the photos are! Just a reminder that you don’t need a pretty building and trees and flowers to take awesome wedding photos!
