Lydia & Zonte. Cool as F***

Kat

July 10, 2010

Wow, hello beautiful people! Lydia & Zonte may well be one of the coolest couples I've seen in ages. Lydia is South Korean (and must be a model I swear!) and Zonte is a dancer. They live in Kansas City, Missouri but are getting married in South Korea on August 7th. I seriously can't wait to see this wedding - if these engagement shots are anything to go by it's going to be one cool ass wedding! Do I have the coolest readers or WHAT!?!?! (be sure to also check out Zonte dancing in the awesome/cute/funny little video after the 'jump'.)

Fabulous Chicago Town, Quirky & Creative Wedding Fest!

Kat

June 7, 2010

Stop number two on our whirlwind tour takes us to the windy city - aka Chicago. I have always been a massive fan of photographer Jeremy Lawson so when I saw this latest wedding, in the same antique/salvage shop that we all fell in love with from his last wedding that I blogged, I couldn't wait to get him on board for another feature! Denise & Mark are both self-confessed quirky and creative types - she is an art director for a music and diy magazine and he runs his very own 'nerd blog' Wolf Gnards - so of course their wedding was going to be a super special one. "When it came to the wedding we wanted to create a fun, unique experience for our friends and family" the couple told me. "Our venue was an architectural salvage / loft space which ended up being the inspiration for the whole event-- everything from my dress to the centerpieces took on that unique, vintage, diy feel...Expect for the cake-- that was straight from the future! But it definitely was a crowd pleaser."

All the Colours of the Rainbow

Kat

Jackie & John's massively colour-filled wedding makes my heart sing with joy. Any couple who can't settle on one colour scheme and go for all the colours is awesome in my book. Those bridesmaids - oh yes! The wedding took place at 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky - an art gallery space that is quite minimalist so not to take away from the art on the walls. The couple let the venue do what it does best and didn't worry about adding their own decorations. "Decor was not a big priority to us because I respected the venue's integrity on it's own" Jackie told me. "I'm an art history major so it was great to find a venue that reflected that. Plus, 99% of our guests were from out of town, so it was nice to have everything - the ceremony, reception and after party - all under one roof. Everyone partied until they had to cut the band off and then simply staggered upstairs to bed. More than a few out of town guests thanked us for that. I can not speak highly enough of the staff there. We had taken our party upstairs to a couple of hotel rooms and the hotel was getting a couple noise complaints, but instead of telling us to keep it quiet and kill the party, they opened up a meeting room space down in the basement and let us bring our own food, drinks and iPod speakers in and stay as late as we want. My husband and I finally crawled away to our room at 3:30 am or so but I'm told people were in the meeting room until well past sunrise."

Rock n Roll Sophistication

Kat

Rita & Hai's wedding portraits had me at hello. From her incredible summer dress from Barney's CO OP that was altered to be a wedding dress, to her flower sash which was custom made by Pish Posh on Etsy and her Diba shoes from Nordstrom. Her bridesmaids wore beautiful silk chiffon Taryn dresses from J Crew and Hai donned a Michael Kors suit with a Burberry tie, J Crew socks and Converse All Stars. The whole thing just screams Rock n Roll sophistication!

High Rocks

When I featured Nadia & Damien's London engagement session back in January I just knew their wedding would be a beaut' and these images sent over by the lovely Eliza Claire certainly haven't disappointed. The pair got married at The High Rocks Hotel in Tunbridge Wells which proved a pictureqesue venue with dramatic 'high rocks' outside. These acted as the perfect backdrop for some stunning portraits. Nadia looked every bit the glamorous bride in her XX dress which not only has a belt and lace over-lay but had pockets. Yes! stylish and quirky!

Anthropologie & Rustic Farm Elegance with a Rock n Roll Twist

Kat

February 15, 2010

Oh squeeeeal! I'm not sure I can say anything more intellectual about Luke & Charis' wedding, in fact I think only 'squeeeal' will cover it. So. Much. Awesome! "This couple was married in a barn at Sharon Rose Farm in Greenville SC" photographer Anna told me "The bride is a hair stylist, the groom is a drummer - so the music and the style was fabulous and original. I thought what was so rock n roll about this wedding was that the bride made surprise stick-on tattoos to replicate her new husband's favorite tattoo on his arm, and all the guests had a mini tattoos during the reception just like the groom!" Charis wore a dress from David's Bridal and she asked her bridesmaids to simply pick their own black dress. When Charis and her bridesmaids walked into the venue someone said, "It looks like an anthropologie catalogue just walked in!" The ceremony and reception were held in a beautiful red renovated horse barn. It was such a nice mix of rustic farm, elegant chandeliers and vintage flare. There were mason jars with wild flowers, and baskets of peanuts on cocktail tables as guests mingled and sipped lemonade before the entering the barn. An old typewriter was used as a to write notes to the bride and groom, and a sweet bird cage to put them in. Just sit back and enjoy these - I know you will! Intense. Elation. Ridiculous.

Kat

As soon as I laid eyes on James & Rebecca's Melbourne wedding I knew I wanted to blog it. However with photographer Jonas Peterson so in demand by wedding bloggers I thought for sure that someone had beaten me to it. So imagine my elation this morning when I received a tweet from Jonas who asked if I'd like to be the first to blog them...Well of course! The wedding took place at the 300m Eureka Tower in Melbourne which proved a challenge for their dear photographer who admits to having a fear of heights! The results are, of course, astounding. Quite apart from the intense photography - the details, her multi-layers dress in the most flattering dark white shade and the gorgeous venue - make this a wedding I am more than proud to share. Thanks to the ridiculously talented Jonas for sharing these...woooo!

Green – The New Red?

Kat

October 5, 2009

I think this year green may be the new colour de jour for rock n roll brides. I have been sent a couple of gorgeous green girlies recently...do I see a new trend emerging? You will probably remember Amy from her stunning bridals that I shared recently. Well photographer Brandi was nice enough to send me the full wedding to report. I am crazy about the florals (I'll probably never tire of peacock feather bouquets!), the bridesmaid's and groomsmen's awesome purple combos which looks fab against Amy... and still of course, her shoes! Enjoy my lovelies...and special thanks to Brandi for sending these to me. I will be sharing some more green dress brides soon! Credit: Brandi Thompson Photography

*The* Carnival Wedding

Kat

September 28, 2009

I'm sure most of blog land will have seen and heard of The Langs before without even knowing it. Their engagements, wedding, portraits and anniversary shoot (all photographed by the uber talent that is Sloan Photographers) have certainly made the rounds and with huge justification. Yes. Wow. So you can imaging my excitement and surprise to get an email from Stacie, one half of the duo to let me know that her and Geoff have ventured into wedding photography themselves and would I like to be the first blog to share some of their work...erm Hell to the YES I would. I predict big things for these guys. Mark my words, blog land will be all over these two within a matter of weeks. Anyway, lets get onto the actual wedding they sent me and boy is it a beauty. Kerri & Kyle had a carnival themed wedding and I'm not talking a few little touches - I mean full out actual carnival awesomeness! The couple did everything themselves and on a very small budget but they had the full works - An actual balloon lady, bubbles, cotton candy, photo booth, popcorn, soda bar, candy bar and of course lots of dancing! AAAAmazing. Stacie & Geoff I am honoured that you have sent your first submission to little old me. Eeek...love love love. Thank you so much for being so freakin' awesome. Credit: Lang Photographers
