I’m going all out with the fantastic British weddings this week…and loving it I might add. Jules & Leighton’s self confessed “oh-so-English-and-slightly-Rock-and-Roll wedding.” Living in Kenilworth, Warwickshire they wanted to keep the day locally sourced and so enlisted the help and expertise of some of their favourite local vendors.

Dena & Patrick’s wedding is certainly Rock n Roll to the max! I adore her cute shoes that show off her gorgeous foot tattoos  (I’m so shallow) and that fabulous dress which was Madison by Priscilla of Boston “It had a belt and pockets!” Dana told me ” so I just HAD to have it! I even kept my iphone in my pocket and snapped photos with it during the day” The bridesmaids matched the yellow and grey theme by wearing various grey dresses from Alfred Angelo. The pair were married in the oldest catholic church in Philadelphia (Old St. Joseph’s) and had their reception at an old bank that was the Philadelphia Real World House which has now been turned into an art gallery called Trust House.
Yes, yes yes this post is heeeuge. Photographer Shannon sent me a little sneaky peak of Josiah & Dana’s engagement session and I swooned as soon as I saw the shot with the silver glittery curtain behind them…but then I saw the coffee shop they started in, the photo booth shots and the cutest Rock n Roll picnic ever and I was smitten.
“This couple is sooooooooooooo cool.” Shannon told me. “Like, truly, I went away from the session thinking “Man, I have to start being cooler” because they were literally too cool. Oh, and they have great style.”
“We started at a local coffee shop, one that hosts underground bands and indie music and art shows. This space had so much character and we really spent way more time there than we intended because it was fun and completely different than the normal coffee shop vibe! We even took photobooth pictures, and pictures of them taking photobooth pictures. Then we went to a woodsy area (a secret spot of mine) and they set up a little rock n roll picnic. They brought a record player and some vinyl records, beer bottles as flower vases, cupcakes (YUM), and a few of their favorite books. Overall, it was probably one of the cutest picnics I’ve seen. Plus we all love cupcakes so that was a perk.”
Ashley & Hunter’s wedding had me smitten as soon as I saw it. They went for a fun fair theme with brightly coloured and fun pinwheels, noise makers, rock candy, pumpkins and a BBQ from Buz n Neds Barbeque. This pair both have a self-confessed obsession with shoes so Ashley wore an amazing pair from Betsey Johnson with a Marilyn Monroe portrait on the sole and Hunter wore red, black and white high top Vans that matched their brightly colored wedding…the bridesmaids even wore red pumps to match.
Ashley dress was by Alvina Valenta which she teamed it with an amazing antique brooch which she found at Ant Hill Antiques in Carytown in Richmond, Va. Their flowers were vibrant and sunny to match the theme and the bridesmaids all wore their own purple mis-matched dresses.
Oh squeeeeal! I’m not sure I can say anything more intellectual about Luke & Charis’ wedding and Charis’ bridal shoot, in fact I think only ’squeeeal’ will cover it. So. Much. Awesome!
“This couple was married in a barn at Sharon Rose Farm in Greenville SC” photographer Anna told me “The bride is a hair stylist, the groom is a drummer – so the music and the style was fabulous and original. I thought what was so rock n roll about this wedding was that the bride made surprise stick-on tattoos to replicate her new husband’s favorite tattoo on his arm, and all the guests had a mini tattoos during the reception just like the groom!”
Charis wore a dress from David’s Bridal and she asked her bridesmaids to simply pick their own black dress.
When Charis and her bridesmaids walked into the venue someone said, “It looks like an anthropologie catalogue just walked in!” The ceremony and reception were held in a beautiful red renovated horse barn. It was such a nice mix of rustic farm, elegant chandeliers and vintage flare. There were mason jars with wild flowers, and baskets of peanuts on cocktail tables as guests mingled and sipped lemonade before the entering the barn. An old typewriter was used as a to write notes to the bride and groom, and a sweet bird cage to put them in.
Just sit back and enjoy these – I know you will!
Everybody loves cupcakes right?! Well photographer Kate and her fiance Geoff took their cake obsession one step further by making them their centrepiece for their awesome Save the Dates.
LOVE.
Yum.
Hungry now.
With the day of hearts, flowers and lurrrve fast approaching, I have been inundated with Valentine’s themed submissions, however this retro/pin up shoot from Jen Will may well be one of my utter favourites.
The shoot took place in her own kitchen which was the perfect setting for the baking theme. “This is part of the reason I love my apartment.” Jen tells us ”It is the coolest apartment ever, and my love for it is part of the reason I have yet to join the adult world of home ownership. It has a bathroom that would probably rent out as a large bedroom in New York City and a classic stove that came straight from the original Be Witched TV show. No matter where I live in the future, I will always love this place. I am so glad I got to document it in such a special way!”

It’s my favourite time of the week again and I’m always ready for a little treat aren’t you? To stay with, I had to share yet another image by Kirsty Mitchell at the top of this post (she’s got the top spot for a second week running now) as this simply is my favourite image I’ve seen all week. She sent it over to me a few days ago and it’s well…just too damn wonderful for words isn’t it?! In fact all her photography is really – simply breathtaking…Thanks Kirsty!

Remember this fabulous ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ shoot that I posted on Halloween that you all adored so much? Well Alley is BACK and better than ever! I am crazy in love with Tanya & Mark’s amazingly colourful DIY wedding! The event took place in Tanya’s parent’s backyard in Northampton, PA and totally reflected the couple’s quirky, colourful, kitsch style. They really put 100% of themselves into the day. Tanya made the invitations, the felt flowers, the centrepieces and most of the decorations herself and all of the tables were covered with unique vintage fabric sourced from various places throughout the wedding planning. One of my favourite details had got to be the pink flamingos everywhere though! Tanya says she has a slight obsession with John Waters so this detail was a must!
Tanya found her and her Bridesmaid’s dress from Ebay and her amazing red birdcage veil from Events and Occasions. Her shoes were from Modcloth and her red petticoat was found at Unique Vintage.
Thanks to Tanya and Mark for sharing their day and all the gorgeous details with us!
