Rustic Diy Details

I was blown away by Carla & Neetling’s South African wedding, in particular the phenomenal DIY vintagey, rustic and natural details and her beautiful dress. Carla and her Mum did most of the wedding themselves and loved personalising all the details.

The wedding took place at Kleinevalleij, Wellington SA and Carla looked stunning in her Robyn Roberts dress, Ninon Louw shoes and awesome white lace tights!

Meredith & Eric’s wedding was based around their all time favourite band – Gun n Roses baby! Meredith wore a dress designed by the same designer behind the wedding dress in the November Rain video. It is imperative they you listen to this song as you view these fabulous images (and excuse me, but did anyone else forget how awesome this song is…and don’t even get me started on the hair - I love it!)

To top it all off, the couple actually got their wedding for free…yes free! Check out the full story from the News 9 news report and the full list of vendors who donated their services for nothing on photographer Brandi’s blog.

This exceptional Rock n Roll style fashion shoot photographed by Jessica Monnich at Highball in Austin Texas hit me right between the eyes. I’ve fallen in love with the vintage 1950s rockabilly stylings, the gorgeous fashion, the stunning models, the bowling alley setting…well basically how damn cool the whole thing is! I’m so excited to share this shoot and all the people involved with you..you’re gonna love it!
Be sure to also check out Wild Orchid Studios‘ amazing video to accompany this set after the ‘jump’

“We went with a 50’s theme. The location was very hip swanky 50’s feeling bowling alley on South Lamar in a bowling alley here in Austin Texas called Highball. In keeping with the vintage theme we did a place setting in the color scheme of the shoot using fiestaware which was popular during that time period. We thought Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers would be fun as that was a popular movie during that time. We also had mock cakes made up for the shoot that had a very rockabilly feel to them as well. The “bride” carried a lotus flower surrounded by sweet peas and the “bridesmaids” carried a combination of flowers including pink sweet peas and poppies.”

I’m going all out with the fantastic British weddings this week…and loving it I might add. Jules & Leighton’s self confessed “oh-so-English-and-slightly-Rock-and-Roll wedding.” Living in Kenilworth, Warwickshire they wanted to keep the day locally sourced and so enlisted the help and expertise of some of their favourite local vendors.

I’ve got a second British post for your today – and this time it’s Miriam & Bruce’s art deco/speakeasy/1920s-30s inspired wedding. The event took place at The Brickhouse, Brick Lane, London which is in the heart of the city’s uber cool East End and was complete with monochromatic colour scheme, gambling tables and cheeky burlesque entertainment. Miriam & Bruce had a humanist ceremony in front of their guests before kicking off a night of unashamed debauchery! Female guests were treated to a black or white feather fan on arrival, and the gents mini bottles of Jack Daniels and chocolate cigars.

Miriam wore a dress and ostrich feather shrug from the fabulous Joanna Fleming Design and birdcage veil from Jane Taylor Millinery.

Art Deco Galore

After swooning over all the vintage gorgeousness at The Designer Wedding show yesterday (full blog post including photographs and links to my favourite exhibitors soon!) when the awesome UK photographer Ian Johnson sent me this stunner of an art deco wedding I jumped at the chance to feature it as soon a physically possible…you can see why, right?

Richard & Sarah, a movie producer and an actress, were always old movie lovers so it was natural to then to bring this theme into their day. The wedding took place at Waters Edge Resort  in Westbrook, Connecticut and even though the plan was for the wedding to be a sunset one, it actually ended up being bathed in moonlight. Sarah wore a vintage dress and her Grandmother’s veil.

Tattoo my Love

“Noel Mason is the man behind award winning Ink Tattoo Studio in Palmerston North, New Zealand and Denise Candy is the woman behind the man behind award winning Ink Tattoo Studio” Photographer Stephen told me.

“I first met Noel a couple of years back when I paid him to put holes in my body. Those holes have long since closed up, but Noel has become a good friend and is the guy responsible for the pretty drawings (kick-ass tattoos) that I wear proudly on my skin.”

“When Noel introduced me to Denise, it was pretty clear he thought he’d won the jackpot. Together, they make a wonderful, crazy couple, and I was honoured when Noel asked me to shoot his missus (with my camera, of course!) on their wedding day.”

“The night before the big day we all scooted over to Levin to see Dave Stevens at Electric Ink Studio for the tattooing of Noel n’ Denise’s wedding rings. Dave tattooed Noel. Noel tattooed Denise, and I winced like a little girl at the sight of the tattoo gun making its mark on their fingers. But the photos were uber cool, and there was definite anticipation in the air for the day to come.”

This beautifully simple backyard wedding makes me long for lazy, summer afternoons once again. Rachel had her dress handmade for her by family members and Kelly rocked it in his pinstripes. The whole day was one of laid back love and laughter.
