DIY Ideas From Off White Weddings

Kat

September 14, 2009

Firstly I wanted to say that Rock n Roll Bride has been nominated for a Blog Award! I'm pretty excited as it's the first one I've ever been considered for. I don't know who nominated me but if it was you thanks so much! I would super duper appreciate it if you took 2 seconds to click this link and vote for me! Secondly behold another new series - oh yes. The very gorgeous Hillary from Off White Wedding contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I would be interested in sharing some of her DIY ideas with you all. After seeing her faaabulous snap station and trifle buffet on The Bride's Cafe there was no way I was going to refuse! Hillary has put together a little tutorial to show you how you can make your very own birdcage veil. I hope you enjoy it!

A Model Shoot

Kat

September 9, 2009

This is yet another shoot I have been dying to share for ages. Rock n Roll Bride fave, Trigger Happy Tara showed me a sneak peak of these a few weeks ago and me being as impatient as ever I have literally been chomping at the bit to get these up for you all! This shoot was actually part of a mass shoot-out, an event where a bunch of local photographers (in this case Jacksonville) get together to shoot some models and exchange tips and tricks. I love this model and Tara's interpretation of the scene so much because she has given what could have been such a traditional shoot a completely offbeat and rock n roll twist! The Model's dress was Alvina Valenta (style #9700) and her veil was by Lori London (style #VM95). Kudos to Tara. Love these! Credit: Trigger Happy Tara

The Wedding Of The Year

Kat

August 27, 2009

I am not the most patient of people and when photographer David McNeil told me about Caroline & Callum's upcoming wedding at the beginning of this year I was already dying to see the results. The couple not only found David through Rock n Roll Bride but Caroline proceeded to tease me with regular email updates on their wedding planning gorgeousness - from her amazing David Fielden dress to her perfect Vivienne Westwood shoes (I loved them so much I even attempted to make my own Rock n Roll Bride version!)

Soft Hues

August 25, 2009

Don't judge me ok? I should be in bed (for those of your following me on Twitter you will have no doubt seen the regular updates about my flu!) but I have a compulsion to blog that can not be stopped... Lisa Rigby shot this outdoor wedding last week and I can't get enough of the lovely pastel shades. I'm not normally one for subtlety (hello? my hair is pink) but the soft hues of her blue Stephanie James Couture dress coupled with her stunning bouquet and birdcage veil are undeniably gorgeous. The wedding ceremony actually took place at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Credit: Lisa Rigby Photography

I Love This!

Kat

August 24, 2009

So I saw this wedding on I Love Lolliblog the other day and was instantly smitten. Then when photographer Christine Chang submitted the wedding to me as well I thought 'what the hell' and have decided to break my self-imposed rule of not re-blogging. This wedding is too damn special and too damn rock n roll to pass up! The gorgeous Bride Kristi, who owns her own jewellery company named Diamond Willow designed and DIYed the whole wedding - from the centrepieces to her stunning peacock bouquet, the boutonnieres and her own flower hairpiece. She wore a sample gown designed by Lian Carlo and her Mum altered the neckline and made the train detachable for dancing. The Bridesmaids have got to be some of the most gorgeous I have ever seen, rocking their Betsey Johnson frocks, white platform shoes, babies breath bouquets and personalised 'knuckleduster' rings designed by Kristi herself. Thanks to Christine for sending me these and to I Love Lolliblog for sharing them to begin with! Credit: Christine Chang via I Love Lolliblog

Multi-Coloured Tresses

Kat

August 12, 2009

My life as a blogger is a pretty damn busy one. I'm not just saying this for effect, but I get sent so much amazing stuff to post everyday that I almost can't keep up! The next post of this early Wednesday morning ( have no clue why I'm up so early, I even drank a whole bottle of wine last night) belongs to one of my brand spanking new sponsors, Stacy Able. As soon as I saw this set I knew she not only had to send it to me for posting but she had to make it the image for her new sponsor link. The multicoloured tresses, the splattered paint, the cute dog...oh yeah baby my sponsors are the bestest. Credit: Stacy Able

A Punk Rock Fairytale

Kat

August 12, 2009

Alysson & David's wedding was a fusion of traditional, rock n roll and crazy awesome hair! They were married in a church that was a converted school by David's father who is a pastor. As photographer, Daniel Krieger said to me... The couple tore up the dance floor once some loud punk music came on the stereo.. the atmosphere of the wedding was just a chill, fun time.. people with different coloured hair and regular looking aunts all on the dance floor together. Alysson's Amsale dress was accoumpanied it with some shoes by Chinese Laundry, bought from DSW. The rock star credentials don't stop there though. Not only did The Ramones play at their reception (!) but they had a pair of guests, Tish and Snooky, that not only used to be in Blondie (ARRGH!) but are the founders of Manic Panic (kick ass hair colour dye.) I think right now I owe those two a huge thank you for creating such amazing rainbow hair dye! Thanks to Daniel for sending this rock star wedding to me! Credit: Daniel Krieger

Offbeat Bride

Kat

July 30, 2009

Ron & Tessa got married at The Uptown Theater in Kansas City and I am crazy about their gorgeous offbeat wedding! The room they tied the knot in was called The Cabaret Room which dates back to the 1920's but is now used to host rock concerts. This pretty much perfectly reflected their vintage, rock n roll day! Tessa found a taffeta-free alternative vintage style dress by Allure Bridal and Ron wore a bowler hat and spectator shoes along with a vest and pocket watch, all of which added to their theme. The couple decided an over floral wedding was not for them and instead chose to incorporate feathers wherever they could. Although Tessa chose to take a walk down their beaten aisle carrying a traditional bouquet and Ron wore a boutonniere, they completely skipped the floral centrepieces, opting instead for a vast array of gorgeous ostrich plumes in teal and black to match their colour scheme. Tessa also wore a gorgeous feather hairpiece which she bought from Etsy seller YJdesign, and finally one of my favourite touches, the feather theme was rounded off by the cute bird cake topper made by Etsy seller cornflakegirl. Thanks to Tessa & Ron for sharing their gorgeous day with us!

Urban Outfit

Kat

July 29, 2009

Do you this couple as much as I do? I'm sure that's pretty much impossible. The checked shirt-dress, the skateboarding, the cyan/teal old bicycle, the sunglasses, the handstands, the vintage cameras. As photographer Mary Wyer said, they do in fact look like they just stepped out of an Urban Outfitters catalogue and I really really love that shop. Oh yes, I pretty much adore Mary & Scott... Huge thanks to photographer Mary for sharing these, I look forward to seeing more stuff like this as she steps forward and takes her photography in this new pretty damn awesome direction.

I Tried To Do Handstands For You…

Kat

July 23, 2009

If you would have told me six months ago that I'd be getting submissions saying 'I shot this session with Rock n Roll Bride in mind' I would have said you were totally nuts. In fact I still think you're a bit nuts but I guess that's beside the point. Keira & Dan had a super cute session with Studio Nouveau. The vintage camera, the bright blue wall, the awesome trilby hat - yes I love it all. You've gotta watch the slideshow as well because I just can't get enough of this wonderful stuff. Thanks to Lara & Kate of Studio Nouveau for not only thinking of me, but for being super duper adorable. Credit: Studio Nouveau

Laid Back Lovelies

Kat

July 22, 2009

Karlie & Jamie only made the decision to get married three months before the day. A lot of their friends were getting married during the year and had spent months planning everybody else's weddings. So it wasn't until the very last minute, that the laid back couple decided to get engaged and then hitched literally straight away! Karlie's father is a pastor at their church so they started the day with a very heartfelt, personal service. They then went to a local park to have some cool portraits taken (they couple also had their engagement shoot here) and rounded off the day with a small reception in Karlie's parent's back garden. Special thanks to photographer Kate for sharing this beautiful day with me. Credit: Depict Photography

Suicidal Bride!?

Kat

July 22, 2009

I love this shoot and I love the inspirational Bride in her 'something blue' Doc Martins, but more than that I love the story that goes along with this set. Photographer Jennifer Williams explained: The highlight of the shoot has got to be being pulled over by the Kern County Sheriff! Heather and I took a few shots at a bridge. Little did we know what a scene it would cause. When I left Heather sitting at the bridge while I went to get the car (her shoes were cute but not so comfortable) people called in reporting a suicidal bride getting ready to jump! Lucky for me, the sheriff thought it was really funny. When I explained we were doing a photo shoot, and there was not a run away bride wasn't about to jump off the bridge, he sent us on our way.

Abbey Ruins – Part One

Kat

July 17, 2009

Woo! I have been dying to share the results from my photo shoot with Chanelle & Craig Segerius-Bruce so much so that I don't even have the full set yet so I'm going to do it in two parts. I met Chanelle for Sushi a while a go and we got a-chatting about doing a shoot together. We knew we wanted to come up with an idea that wasn't 'overdone' (even non brides-to-be worry about doing the same as everybody else...maybe I should read this article I wrote!?) Anyway, we came up with an idea revolving around an old castle and black...lots of black. This little inkling of an idea then evolved into shoot you see below. Despite buying a black dress from Ebay for the shoot, when it came to the crunch it just didn't look right so we went back on the old faithful, my Maggie Sottero wedding dress. I made the black veil myself out of some black tulle, a hair slide and lots of glue(!) and also broughtalong some various other colours of tulle which ended up coming in very handy (yes that is me splayed across a big rock and no it wasn't comfortable..or glamorous!) We trekked our arses all the way down to the Abbey Ruins in Reading town centre but when we got there it was all gated off with warning signs for potential falling rocks. Oh noooo! So what's a Rock n Roll Bride and photographer(s) to do? Hell break in and do the shoot anyway of course! Chanelle & Craig were fantaaaastic and played around with a new technique called 'painting with light'. I had to stand very still in one position for a number of shots while one of them moved around me flashing a flash for in different areas to highlight various area. I think you can see the results are pretty darn spectatorand give the images a real high fashion, edgy look. Chanelle is also an amazing re-toucher and has worked for no less than Mario Testino (oh yes!) so I knew me and my far from perfect skin were in good hands. Anyway, I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as we did shooting themand stand by for part two! (For the full part one set, head over to my flickr)

McMarried

Kat

July 17, 2009

Do you remember Jen & Grant's McEngagements? Well the couple went and got married and there was no Mcdonalds in sight. Jen & Grant cleverly integrated the color blue as a tribute to grant’s favorite team duke as well as tying in a playstation theme (see cufflinks below), and left plenty of room for her obsession with skulls. the hampshire house wedding venue was transformed for jen and grant’s dream wedding. for the ceremony, grant’s best man served as the officiant by becoming a JP for a day, by getting his one-day marriage designation in the state of massachusetts. they had one of the coolest sets of bridesmaids and groomsmen i’ve worked with. after the ceremony, the newlyweds allocated a bit of extra time beyond traditional formal photographs to allow for some creative portraits walking around downtown boston in the boston public garden and an MBTA subway station. at the reception, DJ addam bomb provided music that had everyone on the dancefloor, including jen’s 86 year old grandfather rocking out to billy idol’s “white wedding.” if you are having a boston wedding and are looking for a DJ that can throw down great alternative music, yet still has a tasteful demeanor, this is your guy. Thanks to photographer, Heather Parker for sharing this hot wedding! Credit: Heather Parker Photography
