Emil & Tarryn threw the styling for their South African trash the dress shoot together themselves. They wore their wedding outfits but wanted to funk them up a bit for this laid back session.
“My husband and I are both students and so we had to wing our outfits for the trash the dress session.” the bride told me. “It was actually very fun to walk around gathering ideas from costume shops and low budget chain stores. Our main venue for the shoot was red, black and white, so these become our colours of choice. We wanted to bring in more way-out colours and used the apple red and apple green sunglasses which were repeated in the two different apples found on some of the photos. My wedding dress is your typical fairy princess dress – and our wedding photos move along that theme. Emil and I like diversity, so we decided to do something a little bit different for the photo session.”
“I found the little red hat in a evening dress shop and it struck a chord: it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland whose style is the perfect alter ego to my dress. Love the fact that Alice is not your average heroine: she’s nosy and a bit imperious (in the original story), but brave and confused (in the Johnny Depp version). In both versions, she’s just different: that’s all 
. Again, just perfect for our ‘diverse’ shoot concept. A friend of mine, who dabbles in fashion design, helped with further embellishments to the hat (like the veil). Both Emil and my TTD shoes are super ugly, but in the same breath, funny. They also brought the red colour down the length of the body to balance the overall picture.”
“My husband’s wedding suit was a similar case to my wedding dress. It was a lovely suit, but we thought it a bit too formal for our trash the dress session. So, we chose a basic ‘background’ (white billowy shirt and black pants) and started searching for our different elements. We were clothes shopping one day when we came across the hat he wore; thought it was very debonair and that was that. The suspenders, like the shoes, brought in the red and a bit of funkiness.”
“Finally, Emil is very fond of his Vespa and insisted (from before we were married) that it be part of the TTD shoot. It has now become a future family relic!”
