Vintage Zoo Wedding

Courtney & Michael’s wedding is one of those that you wish you could see a fresh everyday. I got so excited when photographer Jacquelyn sent me this wedding to look at! They had a small ceremony officiated by an friend of the bride which took place at Birmingham Zoo Lodge.

Pretty much everything about this wedding was DIY.  The groom felted the cake topper (two birds sharing an ipod)  and all of the bouquets.  The brides birdcage veil and headpiece were made by her friend/hairdresser. They printed up tickets to throw instead of bird feed or bubbles. There was a small cake and punch reception afterwards where the guests were greeted by a llama and a parrot.  After the reception, the bridal party met at a local restaurant – Rojo – for some eats and then on to the after party!  The after party was held at a bar/antique shop called The Garage where there was much laughter shared and alcoholic beverages consumed. Courtney looks amazing in her dress by Unique Vintage and her adorable floral shoes by Not Rated.

Beautiful Birds

Laura & Gena whimsical & elegant wedding took place at the historic Moody Mansion in Galveston. They added delicious personal and fun touches which fitted in with the bird theme such as lots of vintage bird details to put around the ceremony and reception, including flowers in antique bird cages.  They had formal elements like flocked damask programs, Chivari chairs, a string trio and two topiary junipers which were contrasted with ideas such as little stuffed birds on the cocktail tables and an owl on the sign in table. Both brides wore dresses by Nicole Miller.

Jenna & Michael had a fabulously quirky, kooky and personally rockin’ wedding two weeks ago and the every lovely Love Me Do Photography were there to capture the entire thing. The couple put a lot of work into the day with DIY projects a-plenty. “We wanted our wedding to be very classic looking, but still have a whimsical picnic, day dreamy kind of day feeling” the couple explained and they certainly achieved this with ideas such as the wishing tree – handmade bird silhouettes pinned into flocks and hung from the branches – which was used instead of a guestbook and the funky chocolate moustaches that certainly made for some great pictures and were provided by Pink, White, Brown.

Wai-Ching Bride

Evan & Angela’s wedding was at the Inn at Laurel Point in Victoria, BC.  They had an intimate event with just 20 or 30 guests within their own bridal penthouse suite with an antique/bird theme. They set up a typewriter to be used a vintage style guest book, birdcages around the room and old-time candy for goodie-bag favours. They are both photographers as well so there were antique cameras scattered about as well as lots of shots taken with Evan’s old Polaroid Land Camera.   Angela’s veil was handmade by an artist in Portland, OR and her dress was designed by local Seattle designer Chrissy Wai-Ching. It’s a pretty damn amazing dress huh?

Once With Feeling

I found this wedding and immediately emailed the Bride asking if I could feature it…I have never known so much detail to be put into flickr notes! It’s great though and I highly recommend a good old read, particularly if you are planning your own semi-traditional, budget, eco, backyard wedding.  I particularly love this entry…
The Pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality for centuries. According to legend, captains of New England ships would mount a pineapple on their fence posts when they had a safe return from sea. This served as an invitation for family & friends to visit and share a meal together. That was our plan!

The Bride even wore her mother’s dress from 1974..and it’s gorgeous on her! Even if I had wanted to do this I wouldn’t have been able to – my Mum was a ballet dancer as a young woman and literally about half the size of me!

Anyway enjoy these photographs, I know you will…and be sure to check out Charlie’s blog too!
