Sandra & Colin’s were married on 10.10.10 at The Franklin House, a private mansion in Tucson, Az. Their wedding was a super budget affair and 99% DIY. The couple did it their way and Sandra even had her dog walk her down the aisle (after some family disagreements.)

“Our wedding was 99% D.I.Y. and very low budget,” the bride told me. “We did get our wedding cake as a gift made by Busy B’s Bakery. Colin designed all the programs and invitations and printed them at Vistaprint. We used all biodegradable bamboo utensils (that were wrapped with recycled fabric napkins I made) and sugar cane plates we found online pretty inexpensive Green Party Goods. At the time I was teaching a recycled art class in a middle school. For one of the classes I had the students decorate the plates with edible markers.”

“All the food we prepped and made the day before the wedding as well as that morning by the wedding party and us both. We wanted to keep it really simple and picnic style since it was outside, so we had bread, crackers, spinach dips, bean dip, cheeses galore, pasta salads and sandwiches.  I baked our favors which consisted of vegan banana bread, oatmeal raisin cookies and we got maple leaf cookies from Canada. My husband is Canadian and we wanted to pull in that a little to the mix, as well as the fall theme. From the start of us dating I always baked for him. His favorites were the banana bread and oatmeal cookies. Somehow I think that is how I won over his heart, with sweets. I packaged them in brown bags and tags made on moo.com of our engagement shoot.”

“All of our flowers were purchased locally from the supermarket and the bridesmaids put them together. I made the decorations that were all over the place and together that morning we set everything up. It was a lot of work but totally worth it. His parents were so amazing to us. They rented tables and chairs from a local friend for the event not to mention helped us pull it all together.”

“Since we met on a bicycle ride and he proposed there too, we had to incorporate bicycles. We had our guest bring or ride their bikes over and after the ceremony we went for a little ride downtown.”

Vanessa & Brian’s DIY wedding has a vintage bicycle theme because cycling was what brought them together. The day was held at Simpson House, Kansas City and started with an intimate ceremony on the gardens. Vanessa walked down the aisle to “I Will” by the Beatles, performed acoustically by a local couple. After the kiss, everyone rang bells that were placed on their chairs. They also decorated their venue in a way personal to them. Wheat was an important decorative element as Vanessa’s Dad was a wheat farmer and passed away when she was young. She even has a tattoo of wheat on her arm in memory of him.

The couple put a number of DIY elements into their wedding including the ceremony backdrop which was actually a flower and ribbon chandelier created from bicycle wheels. They even had a super cute bicycle cake topper made for them by their coordinators, Hitched Weddings + Events. ”Our inspiration was the shared passion that we had for cycling & all things vintage”, they explained. “That really helped us to think out of the box and try to incorporate touches of the motif without having it be too ‘themey’.”

I’m a sucker for adorable florals. Who isn’t in fact? The concept of the shoot was formed by Thaoski, who told me all about Star & Kane’s gorgeous photo session came about. “The first time I met Star was at a Christmas party last year. It was the first time I had seen her with Kane and I remember thinking she had this old fashioned vintage sweetness about her. Kane is actually a guitar player in a rock band so together they just formed a ridiculously gorgeous ‘rock-vintage’ couple.”

“The theme of their shoot was ‘vintage sweetness’. Their wardrobe was full of vintage pieces but Kane bought Star a sewing machine for Christmas so she wanted to sew something for the shoot (very sweet!). She bought and old vintage dress and transformed it into the lovely green skirt you see in the picture.”

“The old bikes are also owned by them and we added the vintage camera (Canon 7) with the 1965 “dream lens” to the shoot because of Star’s love for photography. The gorgeous sparkly accessories were provided by the lovely Madame Moi Boutique and outfits were also co-ordinated by Madame Moi.”

Tara & Travis met at The Burning Man festival in 2007, so where better than to be wed than the very festival that brought them together? The ceremony, which they wrote themselves, took place under the Bliss dance statue in the middle festival and was performed by a close friend of the couple.

The theme for the wedding was Denim and Diamonds/Cowboy Chic. The couple did everything themselves and due to the festival location, had very laid back attitude to the ‘formalities’ of a wedding, “We had a good old fashioned BBQ for everyone – no one was turned away” they explained. Their table design and all the florals were provided by the fabulous Asiel Design.

Tara wore a stunning dress which she designed herself with the help of and Zalikha from Ossai Designs. She had it made for her by a local seamstress. Her headpiece was also by Ossai Designs and her cowboy boots were from eBay. Tara made all her own jewellery except her wedding ring. Her necklace and earrings were made of Peruvian aquamarine beads, hand-made copper beads that were oxidized and hand-made silver chain with a patina finish.  The groom’s ring was made from sterling silver and then hammered.

Travis wore a vintage western suit which he purchased from a local consignment store in San Francisco.

Be sure to check out all the fabulous details (that the couple collected and put together themselves) after the ‘jump’. So cool!

Don & Aileen’s beautiful engagement session was submitted to my wedding blog over Christmas. “We chose the colors aqua and red for our wedding because it conveys a little bit of old / vintage but modern and bold at the same time,” they began. “We also wanted some of our favorite items to be a part of our celebration and our engagement session: Cameras & Bikes.”

“We’ve always been fascinated with cameras and its what actually brought us two together. Our collection grew because of our interest in how images were captured way before, and how it has evolved to what it is now. Growing up, we both biked a lot — and we knew they were definitely gonna be part of this wedding. Represents a ‘lil bit of old soul, free spirit and never ending fun. Our overall theme will be more of “vintage fun” — we ddon’t want a formal stiff celebration but something that’s more relaxed and easygoing.”

The couple are getting married this year and I’m looking forward to seeing their wedding photographs already!
