An Alcohol-Free Summer Gathering with Cake… and a DIY Dip-Dyed Wedding Dress!

Katinka and Andy met on Livejournal in 2008, and after finally meeting in person, it was love at first sight. They were married in May in Belgium and there wedding was themed around the things they love – Toy Story (check out the bride’s shoes!), summer gatherings with friends and cake!

“Whenever we have people over I bake cake and make lemonade”, began the bride. “We just sit and talk the afternoon away, enjoying our food and drinks and we play the occasional game of Kubb. It’s one of the things we love the most, so we just did that for the wedding, but instead of a small group of friends, there were about 70 people!”

“Our wedding was like an afternoon tea/ garden party, without the sandwiches and just more cake. Because cake makes everyone happy and that is exactly what we wanted. There were scones, cakes, homemade lemonades and hot beverages. We didn’t have any beer or wine, only some cider. I don’t drink any alcohol and Andy only ever drinks the occasional cider. We wanted it to be our day, our party. We would never have wine and beer at a party, so we thought, what the heck, why not just get rid of beer and wine for our wedding too?! This saved us a lot of money. The atmosphere was very relaxed. There were people playing lawn games, eating cake, talking, enjoying the sun. Just the kind of party we love.”

Pretty Boho Picnic Wedding in Belgium

Boho Wedding Roxane & Pierre - Kasia Skrzypek Photographer (38)

For Roxane and Pierre, a relaxed homespun wedding was perfect. Their small ceremony was held at city hall, and they hosted the reception in the bride’s house. “Pierre and I met in Qatar, where we both work as airline pilots”, the bride began. “Everything happened very fast and after eight months together we decided to move in together. The only problem was that you are not allowed to live together without being married in Qatar so we decided to get married!”

“We organised everything in 6 months”, wrote the bride. “We wanted to do a picnic in a field very close to my house in Belgium, because it’s a place that I love and we both love nature. For that reason, everything had to be simple, especially as we both live so far away. Our priorities were having our families and close friends there, and lots of cheese, wine and champagne!”

Roxane wore two beautiful lace dresses, both super affordable. Her long sleeved ceremony dress was, unbelievably, from H&M and her reception one was from Lookbook Store. “I wanted a short dress that looked simple”, she said. “I found one in H&M that I liked, but at first it didn’t feel like ‘the one’, and then I found another one on Lookbook Store. I loved both of them and I didn’t know which one to wear so in the end I wore both!”

Ariane and Nikki - Mirror Tent - Rockabilly Wedding - Kama Catch Me Photography (58 of 298)

There are so many reasons why I love Ariane and Nikki’s wedding. The setting, their outfits, the laidback-ness… the whole thing just made me feel happy as I wandered through their gorgeous photos. The day started with a small ceremony at City Hall in Deurne and ended with an epic reception at Mirror Tent in Rijkevorsel, Belgium.

“We came up with the wedding theme from one of our favourite songs (which we also sang together at the wedding)  Onderweg by Pieter Embrechts”, explained the bride. “It’s a great song about a couple who jump into a car, not knowing where the road will take them, but they’re together and that’s all that matters. We realised that it described our relationship best. Even now we still have our most important conversations in the car, driving from one spot to another. We do a lot of road trips too or take trips with our caravan. it’s also the reason why we did the family pictures in front of our caravan.”
